Breaking the Spell of Colonial Christianity (Feat. Nghipudilo Ya Shiindi) | Africa Speaks

- čas přidán 30. 07. 2024
- We sat down with Nghipudilo Ya Shiindi, who courageously reclaimed her African identity by changing her name from Petrina to Nghipudilo and leaving behind the confines of Christianity to embrace her cultural heritage and traditions.
In 2023, Nghipudilo embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery, shedding her English name Petrina in favor of the Oshiwambo name Nghipudilo. She felt that her birth name did not fully reflect her African identity, marking a pivotal moment in her quest for cultural authenticity.
In 2022, Nghipudilo made the bold decision to break free from Christianity, viewing it as a foreign imposition that severed Africans from their ancestral roots and traditions. She passionately articulated how pre-colonial Africans were deeply spiritual, with belief systems intricately woven into the fabric of nature long before the arrival of Christianity.
Throughout our discussion, we explore African traditions such as naming ceremonies, marriage rituals, and burial practices, juxtaposing them with Christian customs. Nghipudilo sheds light on the invaluable role of traditional healers and witch doctors, whose knowledge of herbs and rituals predates modern medicine, dispelling misconceptions about witchcraft.
We confront pressing issues, including the erosion of African indigenous knowledge systems in the face of modernization and government policies that neglect cultural preservation. Moreover, we examine the waning relevance of Christianity as more Africans reconnect with their ancestral heritage.
As Nghipudilo advocates for the continued research and promotion of African history, culture, and traditions, she calls upon others to engage with elders and conduct research to rediscover their African roots before this invaluable knowledge is lost to time.
Join us on this transformative journey of cultural rediscovery and empowerment. Let's honor our past, embrace our present, and shape our future by reclaiming our African identity together. Subscribe for more inspiring conversations and take action to preserve our rich cultural heritage.

European education is a space where africans learn to forget themselves..Joshua muponga
How can we expect Europeans to teach us African culture?
As a 60 year old African,i'm very grateful to the creator that our young ones are getting enlightened about their own self consciousness, thank you our daughter for coming out in your true colours.
🙏🏾
I'm trying to slowly leave Christianity, but my Father in-law comes tomorrow for a visit from Africa. Such a loving man, but I'm worried he'll push Catholicism to my children while he's here. The kids would love to learn from him about our own ppl, but he'll be more worried abt them worshipping white Jesus
"In churches are people who are dead spiritually...." 💥💥💥💥💥💥
It's ironic, isn't it?
Fake news
Where?🤷🏾
Yes. They are dead spiritually in church. It’s all about getting emotionally worked up. There’s nothing spiritual about that.
Spirituality is not witchcraft only, there are many aspects to spirituality. There is darkness and there is light. Yours is the worship of the serpent. Ironically the same serpent that those in African Spirituality worship as they dream of the serpent and therefore answer a call to be sangoma’s. Then they go into the rivers and meet the same serpent seed. Then in Egypt they carried the image of the serpent on their foreheads. Eve was told that her seed will crush the head of the serpent. Even the Roman Catholic Church worship the serpent, as you see the design and architecture of their cathedrals in the Vatican. You all worship the same serpent who is steering you away from the Creator into worshipping him instead. The war is between the serpent and the true Creator! Those who are deceived worship the serpent and will persist with the same serpent.
I'm a 77 year old so-called African American woman who is thrilled that people all over the world are waking up, including many colonizer children who are sharing enlightenment. I am especially happy for Africans who are waking up and pray that there are more young African leaders to come forth like Malema, Traore, the president of Senegal, and 2 others that I know about who are leading their countries to economic independence and sovereignty in Africa. When Africa grows into independence, the world will be blessed.❤❤❤
The so call African American are the aborigine, you were already here
??? Julius Malema..... please do some proper research of this person . i live in South Africa - dont. beleive everything you see on social media....
Namibia 🇳🇦 needs this type of women, she is very smart

2 bad the majority of Namibians are caught up in the CC. Some of us are woke and as speaking families have rejected us. Hope this receives tons of views from ma people.
OMAPANDULO 2 U moshili
Finally, someone who agrees with me!
I loved this conversation. I left the the church aged 17. It has been a long long journey stripping away the teachings of Christianity to discover the truth of who I am. I live in the UK and during the Pandemic, I spent so much time in the woodlands and felt closeness to the Creator like never before.
Thanks, Nia! What made you decide to leave the church?
Finally the wind of enlightenment is rising within us...
Indeed well articulated, she's decolonizing the mind of African including Namibian in particular. This is the REALITY even though majority opt to be ignorant with it. Our mind remain colonized and we CONTINUE to promote propaganda that targeted to erase African religion😢. This woman is so brave. We remain African but not European! Our ancestors remain those who came and lived before us but not Thus it's a priority to honour and respect them instead of European religion that are aiming to promote some and downfall African in all aspect of live, their theology might be good in controlling humanity however it need to be revised to be fair and neautral😢😢
We need to remember our roots.
We are the roots others are the branches
True African freedom is to be shackled to your identity
Thank you, Sis. l left church 4 years ago and I'm now into African Spirituality. We are awakening to the truth
You're welcome, Gideon! How's your experience with African spirituality so far?
Most of us did not came to this thinking capacity/level, but her thoughts are deep. She is a true African
Keep it queen of Africa , wishing you more strength 💚💚
I left Christianity when I was 14 years old.. I told my parents I did not feel that it was the " true religion" as they called it . Thankfully, my parents did not shun me, but I am constantly asked to come back. It will never happen. 😀😀😀
That's great that your parents did not shun you. How did you come to that conclusion at such a young age?
The village, the two of you, the subject, wow the calm beauty of Africa. I love the awaking happening in all corners of Africa right now. Subscribed.
Thank you. Welcome to the party! 🙌🏾
@@hennoktv you are welcome

So what do we do?
In our culture we say “the truth might cause offence but it is not a sin”.

I’m so glad I’m not crazy, people look at me crazy because I question their religion.😅👍

I am 100% there with her, it's high time we as Africans start to question Christianity and it's practices. Most Christian practices are actually pagan practices if you follow their origins. we are gods ourselves.
There are so many things that we, as Africans, need to start questioning. The trouble is that we tend to mistake curiosity for rudeness.
Some Africans minds are still limited by other people cultural historiography, they compulsively find labels within the parameters of such historiography to satisfy they need to identify themselves
@@hennoktvnot just Christianity all imported religions
Yes, that's why we melanated people are targeted by the other races , because we are the gods of the earth.
She’s very awoke 🙏🏼
I keep telling people that Christianity blinds people a lot but spirituality allows you to connect direct to God of nature and our ancestors
We can't blame Christianity. We have to be responsible for our own spirituality. Wouldn't you agree?
@@hennoktv I agree but to come to that realization it takes enlightenment which is not taught anywhere unless you’re born with a gift everyone does but most have faded due to believe systems
She hate God apparently because God is for white but she is speaking English which is the language of the white , she as well must speak in her traditional language 😮it does not make sense at all . She must continue to be in her belief and we must also continue with our belief.
English is not the issue here. But you're right; we must each continue with our own beliefs. However, we must be willing to let go of any belief systems that no longer serve us.
Knowing not believing

I think we are creative enough to create our own mainstream media. What do the creators of BBC, CNN, Fox and Aljazeera have that we don't have? Nothing! We can do what we put our minds to. Just think UNITY......in which our Blackness is greater than any tribe, religion, geography, nationality.....WE ARE ONE!

Thank you so much sisters for this excellent discussion. Your defence of African culture and history is essential in the struggle to decolonise our minds. Without this, we shall remain empty shells with no right to identify ourselves as Africans. Let us restore the glory of our Ancestors by striping ourselves of the meaningless colonial names and symbols. Failing that, future generations will never forgive us. A Luta Continua!!!

Welcome to the party, Althea! We're so glad you found this interview insightful.
Getting initiated is called "okutuwa olusha" in oshikwanyama.
You are right, but I think that "being initiated" can be used in several phrases in English. For example, "getting initiated into womanhood." However, "Okutuwa olusha" in Oshiwakwanyama can only be reffered to one process: being given some power to heal or being made strong.
Finally ur African pride is fully and completely returned to u.Your conscience is now clear. You are an inspiration.
Yes indeed, she is an inspiration.
Thank you so much
You're most welcome, Nanita! 😃

I wish our African American sisters thought how you women do.
It starts with self-reflection.
Listening 👂 to this podcast; I am even more determined to continue with my own decolonisation. This is an answer and a sign for me from my Benevolent Ancestors in the Spiritual Abode giving right of passage (i.e. giving me thumbs up). Thank you 🙏 for posting this interview, may this enlightenment be spread abroad and wide. Ašhe 🙏🙏🙏
You're most welcome, Ntinana. 🙏🏾 What made you decide to embark on your own journey of decolonization?
I became restless - like a niggling feeling. Kept on dreaming being in school, then I decided to embark on research to understand myself. Who AM I? What is my mission/purpose in this lifetime? It has been a roller-coaster, but once I landed on pages/posts on Africcan SPIRITUALLY. The hunger/drive intensified. Is a working progress.
Wow! That's amazing. Most times, we're afraid to ask the tough questions: who am I and why am I here? Keep going on your journey; you're an inspiration!
I love you and cherish you. Can't me as your unequivocal follower.

If a slave and a master prays to the same God, who will the God answer?
The master is praying to God to keep his slaves working for him, the slave is praying to the same God asking him for freedom. to be released/set free from slavery/master?
The God is the God of the master.. The master introduced and beat the slave to accept this God... What makes the slave think that the Master's God is going to answer his prayers over the Master's prayers?
Interesting dilemma. 🤔 But what if God is for all people?
@@hennoktv Do You believe there is one God for everyone? what if, There are so many other “gods” That is why the Bible says “ Have/worship no other gods but Me for I’m a jealous God, why would You be jealous if You are the only one? 🤔😊
e.g. Exodus 20:3 Verse
New International Version
“You shall have no other gods before me
in Exodus 20:5-6: “You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God,
What about:
Deut. 11. [16] Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; [28] And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known
1 Corinthians 8:5-6 King James Version (KJV)
For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods MANY, and lords many,) but to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
Exodus 23:13
“Pay attention to all that I have said to you, and make no mention of the names of other gods, nor let it be heard on your lips.
Deuteronomy 6:14
You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you🤔

"I don't think their God likes people with a brain, they don't want their people to think and receive knowledge" 🤭 Sad hard hitting truth.
It is their God that doesn't like people with brains or is it the representatives of this God that don't want people to think and receive knowledge?

We are not Africans, but we are bantu or muntu 🙏🏿🇿🇦❤️
We're curious: what do you mean when you say "we are not Africans"?
Africa is the name of a white man
U may be of the bantu or muntu people but there are hundreds of other indigenous groups around the mother continent. All of us aren't rolled into those two groups you mentioned.
People, Christianity is a thing of the heart. Onenderstand Christianity h rooted in the word of God
To understand Christianity, one needs to be rooted in the word of God, else you see your senses.
Yes, studying the Bible is a start, not just listening to what people say about it. You have to do your own research.
Slavery is over Roman cult is the foundation of Christians and its a plagiarized. Copy of ancient egypt mythology...
Christianity hinges on blood sacrifice, where you drink blood and eating human of flesh, if this is not CANNIBALISM I wonder....
It is also rooted in obeying the word of God and speaking it over your life by personalizing it to your situation,
She is the candace owens of namibia. So intelligent

@@hennoktvat one point I suffered from kidney problem problem then two days later the human image came and told me to be using certain roots and when searched it's health benefits I discovered that cures kidney stones
@@hennoktvour forefathers where not bad people but they just unlocked the secret of the universe, they are animals, trees that are in another dimension, a person who is not spiritual connected can't know that they exist, if you study African tradition you also understand how they respect a human being and it's spirit, that's why it's difficult to kill a person in African beliefs, pay attention to your dreams, one day you might have the same experience, these things are real
This is why i left Christianity, complete and utter brainwashing colonial crap.
