Merle should have had close to 60 #1 hits....George is good and he deserves what he got, but writing, singing and arranging the music as Merle did is exceptional. Radio didn't play Merle's songs in 80s and 90s and he had some great albums. Hell, his record companies didn't even release some of them! I love both of these guys....two of the best ever!
Merle paid tributes to his heros during his life and now people he inspired are doing the same. Thank you George your are a good man and a great singer

Oh I love this song from Merle haggard he was really fantastic in person at the Inglewood forum 1998, when I first Alabama was coming to Los Angeles, California, I love the way he sang all his great songs in person, I will never forget about that awesome country music concert
He asked me to dance once in early 80's, he wasn't quite the star, but was on the horizon...I had no clue who he was, the reason I said "no" to his request is because he was 4 inches shorter than me(i'm over 6 foot tall).... he was very polite and tipped his hat to me. Several girls came running over to me and said I was crazy for saying no! LOL
I think George covered Merle songs back in the 70s. They met while George was stationed in Hawaii in the Army playing in a band. George was stationed at Schofield Barracks and playing at the NCO club, when in between shows he got to meet Merle.

Check out Joe Nichols…he did ‘Merle Mondays’ during the shutdown in 2020. His father was a huge Haggard fan. George looks to be trying a bit too hard.
