2 giant balls. thank you for not passing that one up. well done, you have earned man points.
Totally testacular!
It's clear those very shiny white balls have not been subjected to the sun and elements! 😂🤣
or the innuendo when sending her down the aft of the boat 😂
Yes, Mads standing there with his enormous white balls is certain to enter the Sail Life Hall of Fame :-)
"Giant Balls Mads" would make a great prison name. Let's hope he never needs it.
"Ya, but you don't so down you go". I laughed my butt off when you told Ava that.
Yeah me too.
My goodness, all the ways them word's will be spoke again in the future, at sea, at anchor, on dock...😅🤣🤣😅🤣🤣😍
Giant balls !!! Yep !! You earned 'em taking on this channel, fixing up Obelix , then Athena , now marriage and global cruising !! I have been watching since the beginning and have really watched you come out of your shell !!!! SKOL, my friend !!
Lol, Ava said "mighty spiffy if I do say so myself" that's gold 😆
Great job guys 👍
Spiffy will be the newest addition to the Danish lexicon.
I think when you all set off sailing the overalls need to get cut into shorts, that would be hilarious for a sailing away ritual! .
Nah, they'll need them again in Scotland.
Ava's are already short!
I just just wanted to say you videos make my Sunday night better, and Ava is making the videos (and I hope, your life) even better still!
Splashed my boat today. Wasn't sure who would get going first. But thank you for all your inspiration motivation and advice, you were instrumental in my success.
congrats and enjoy your new adventures!
Looking beautiful Mads and Ava. Never thought I would hear you say “That’s good enough” so often. Time is a killer.Andy UK
There is nothing like a lock to beat the hell out of fenders. Throwing brand new fenders on and going into locks is like tossing fresh meat to the lions. We have transited about 200 locks so far so we know how that goes.
We have never bought a fender in over 5 years of boat ownership, including over 3 years of full-time cruising and 2 summers part-time before that. Our boat came with a mish-mosh of assorted fenders and we have found quite a few more on the water so we have upgraded most of them to better/newer/bigger -but still a ragtag motley assortment of different brands and styles. But we don't have any of those massive balls like you have. I am sort of jealous of Mads giant balls.
We saw a guy have to sail through a storm, using a broken broom stick for his tiller. Tiller broke in heavy storm, he was on board with 8 year old daughter. That broken broom stick got them into the marina safely, he was both very good and very lucky.
Hi Mads, You and Ava must be thrilled with how Athena is coming on. The one thing you need to put on your to do list is to relax on your sail to Scotland. Cheers and well done. Ian Langley New Zealand
11:02 "Lightweight, performance oriented door", aka a sheet. Wonderful. :)
The boat is starting to look more and more like a home. Well done you two!
Ava has taken very well to the camera. She also looks to be a very capable 1st mate with all that she seems to know how to do. Best of luck to you both!!! Boat work is coming along just fine if I do say so myself. LOL
So happy for you two. I so look forward to my Sunday’s with you.
Best of luck, your going to have a blast.
My wife and I have lived aboard for 20 years now and still loving it. 💕
Did you see my man sanding that pipe? Didn't even blow a belt. He's come so far
Gosh these episodes take forever to get here!
Stay healthy and we'll see you next week.
Those counters and doors looks great! Athena is coming together.
An idea: As you know, BMS's control battery charge and use but can also be somewhat fragile. Since they carry authority to shut down battery use to "protect" those expensive LiFePo cells, they can also leave you without power at an unpleasant time. Warranty is useless in high seas without power to your nav station and auto helm. Consider mounting a backup BMS next to your primary BMS so you can simply move a plug from one to another in the event your primary goes on a vacation. "Nothing pleasant happens during a storm." Thanks for great videos!!
This is getting better each week! We are building a catamaran in The Netherlands, planned to launch this August and Scotland and Caldonian Canal top our bucket list!
congrats! Would love to see your adventures also!
You two are a great team. Seems like a match made by Cupid at a carpenter symposium
The old Suzuki 'widow maker' by the workshop door brought back some memories.
Almost at 100 000 team, keep up your great work, and thank you for sharing.
Looking forward to your videos every week is one of my favorite things. Please keep posting
Not to subtract from your video making skills all these years (all are fantastic!), but Ava does bring a lot to the table!
Another awesome video, thanks :)
Mads you are contagious. She dresses like you and talks like you. You make a very cute couple!
I'm enjoying Ava's energy on the channel. It is fun to see you working together.
I concur with your expressed need for an emergency tiller with a longer arm for more leverage. Most of the ones that come with a boat seem to be totally inadequate. Three of us on a Catalina 42 were 360 nm out of Honolulu headed for the mainland when the cable to our steering quadrant broke. The emergency tiller was only about 18 inches long and took two of us to steer pushing and pulling as hard as we could. It couldn't have been any longer because the helm was in the way. If we had had the spare gear we might have come up with a pulley system but it wasn't needed because, luckily for us, the autopilot was connected to the steering quadrant not the helm and we were able to return to Oahu for repairs. Anyway, longer is better when it comes to emergency tillers.
brilliant guys! Glad you have introduced the 1st Mate into the joys of O glorious sanding, and the hierarchy on a naval vessel, greetings from Forres, 30 miles from Inverness!
Your boat is looking very good with two of you working at it won't be long now he'll be hitting the waves cheers
You guys are getting close. Excited for when you untie the lines!
Mads & Ava! Wow I'm so excited for you two! Thanks for all your efforts.
I've been following for the last 4 Years, its getting too much for me now being sooo close to finishing, can't wait to finally see you both on the water!!
The counter tops in the sunlight at the end of the video are just amazing!
OK Ava is definitely the star of this video :)
Looking great Mads!! For the head door handle, you might try Hafele, C.R. Laurence, or Taylor Made..
Those counter tops look amazing !!
Ava has the most awesome humor 👊 😊
A fellow Dr. Bronner's Peppermint fan, ohhh yeah...that tingle!
Ja, been living with clutter, boxes, dirt, sanding dust, and moving things around for the last few years as I renovated my house to sell. It's on the market today. One thing I didn't lose in all the shuffling is my Sail Life sticker. 👍
Your wood working looks marvelous!
Silicone baking sheets work excellent as a pot holder in tippy seas while cooking on a induction cooktop.
Mads &Ava great to see you to are working hard because Athena is looking like a Million Buckd
The boat is looking so beautiful! I’m also really enjoying Eva’s input, you make a great team.
Super spiffy. Things are coming together. And you should be pleased. Beautiful job.
This is an official couchsailor water line investigation request 🤔👍😁
Lmao as a software developer I love your naming schemes .... funny to see how much we all think alike. I was raised in Maine and miss sailing glad I found your channel
Hmm. Should I watch next week? Oh, painting? That probably means oh glorious sanding! Definitely watching!!
11:41 "QT Round Recessed Door Handle/Deadbolt" < 23 mm wide at the face (but it's a fascia piece, the actual lock is narrower, and the fascia could certainly be sanded to be 20mm). Relatively cheap, 28 doll hairs.
like to move this up
I saw some of these myself and thought about them too.
See them at West Marine.
Front cabin looks really nice.
It’s looking nice. The wood give it a nice touch.
Love each other for ever!! What a wonderful task :)
Looks great!
I sure hope you two sail together as well as you work together, great video!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤜🤛✌
Recessed cockpit locker handles may be adaptable for doors, & can be locked. Every countertop needs a fiddle.
Athena is really starting to look really nice inside. Can I suggest that you add a batten to the front edge of your counters in the fridge freezer area and washing machine. When you are sailing on a heel, this will keep anything on the counter in place during sailing. I really like the satin look. I did the same in my boat and many people have commented on how nice the wood looks.
An interesting option for that bathroom door would be something like the Southco magnetic cabin door latch. Very minimal interior volume space need for the striker and latch. As always great video.
Impressive progress!
Batman is even more efficient with Robin at his side... ;-)
2 giant balls...Mads you naughty man !
Great work as always Mads and Ava.
Sailboats heel and we all know what happens to easy sliding drawers facing athwartship. But they also pitch so I hope you have some ingenious method to keep Ava’s drawers from opening on the downslope.
One of the few channels where I click on the "like" icon before I even watch it.
Well done guy's, lots of progress and those doors and countertops are looking good🏴☠️🍺
Its great news Mads that you, Ava & Athena are coming to Inverness, Scotland.
Things are moving along and looking great you two :)
Such a lovely episode. So much getting done and it's all looking amazing. Well done guys xxx
Sunday super spiffy video thanks to both of you
incredible job!
I saw “Clean the boat “ in the doing list. Does that ever get moved to the done list? Ha ha
Other than strictly necessary stuff, I would do that one last...
Looking great as usual.. looks like million bucks
Awesome video as always. Can I give you some advice? With the magma grill buy yourself some aluminium foil and line the inside with it. This will eliminate grease and oil from staining the inside of the grill. They are a brilliant grill however they can become messy.
Those are fantastic grills!! Love ours!! Bullet proof.
Your colour scheme is coming along just spiffingly… 👍👌
Looking good! Love that you two are together.
Awesome made better 👍
Wow the boat is looking amazing!!!
Good job! Making progress. Cleaning up the workshop would have taken me a lot of time because I hoard scraps of wood, etc. Thanks for sharing.
Word of warning ref the canal Mads - we operated our charterfleet out of its smaller sister (the Crinan Canal) for about ten years and it is BRUTAL on your topsides. The fenders pick up dirt and, as the boat moves within the lock chamber, it gets ground into the hull. If you can then sort out a fender blanket to place between the hull and fenders when in the canal.
Another tip is to have your fenders at slightly different heights as many/most of the lock walls are of rough cut stone.
I'm getting so excited for you guys , you deserve this you have worked so hard and never complained . God Bless you and Thank you for taking us on your journey.
Thanks for another great episode. As always, looking forward to the next installment. Cee-Yoo !!
Excellent watch again 👍🏴
Hard word and perseverance looking amazing.
You two are a perfect match. You both compliment each other on the videos as well as on the projects. Looking forward to more improved videos.
Fantastic progress. Looking forward to next week👍
I really enjoy your videos.....!!! I keep refreshing on a Sunday to see when your vid comes out :-)
You two make a great team.
Very nice countertops!
The excitement is building! The feeling of “We are actually doing this!” is in the air! Good job guys! Aloha!
That emergency tiller will never allow YOU to handle any arisen sea state gracefully. You are quite correct. You need an extension on it that will clear the helm in order to provide the leverage you will need in a heavy sea state. You can always use a multi-purchase block system to make up for the shitty leverage length as well. I doubt down wind action that multi purchase crap will keep you accurate enough to avoid some issues surfing down waves though. Most all of those emergency tillers have the very same issue. Another way is to get a Hydrovane and use that as your emergency steering as well as wind pilot. I seriously doubt you will last 20 minutes on that tiller in a blow. Hopefully it will be enough to get you hoven to though.
It must be exciting to be soooo close to untying the lines! Great progress.
Have really enjoyed seeing the two of you together. You are a great team and the tasks will not take long with the both of you tackling the work ahead before departure.
Please please round the corners on the centerline countertop. It will add some additional work, but you safety is worth the time you will invest. Love your channel and of course you guys most of all.
For the head door, you might want to look for a flush handle that can also be locked. This allows the head to be "secured" in no-discharge zones, or for bonded storage, if necessary. (At least in marinas, where you don't need access.)
But for now, one screw holding one leather or nylon strip on the outside gives you a pull handle, and a couple of thin strong magnets on the inside would hold it closed. All minimal cost and leaving behind no cosmetic damage when you find a proper handle.
Mads, I have been along for this ride for a long time, after watching you tackle all the things you have, I can say that you did not need 2 additional big balls!
Great team work! 💪
Cabinet & door fronts and counter tops look gorgeous, well done!
WOW! Everything is really coming together, and I can see your vision for the interior quickly achieving your standard of “really spiffy.”
Wow Athena is starting to look Pretty damn spiffy Mads, great work mate, been with you for the whole process...Inspirational!!!!! cheers
Fantastic progress again and testament to the productivity gain of another pair of hands with the ability to crawl into small spaces. I appreciate the stove location on the transom is provisional - but I really think it may be better aligning fore and aft at standing height on the port side Arch.😀👍⛵️
You two are a great team!
Always makes my Sunday seeing your vids!
Its looking fantastic
