  • Shadow Assistant Minister for Defence Phillip Thompson says there was a lot of community support for veterans at the Anzac Day ceremony in Townsville, Queensland.
“We had thousands of people at the dawn service, our march - there wasn’t a free place to sit throughout the march,” Mr Thompson told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“A lot of community support for veterans and our still serving defence force personnel.”

How commendable Is this Townsville man speaking up with the truth! That North Queensland needs more readiness in these very turbulent times. More and more Australians need to speak up. Freedom of speech is what Australia must always be!

@@yeahnahyeah4113 that was back in the early 1900s. Like l said the current one is the only one I've known. Being 67 you might understand that. The red was taken out in 1901 prior to the wars. So to me our military fought under the current flag which the kid has in his hand. That's it.

This "year 2023 also marks the 70th Anniversary of the end of the Korean War, where, like Vietnam, Australian troops FOUGHT TO STOP THE SPREAD OF TOTALITARIAN AGGRESSION through out the Asia-Pacific region. Their sacrifice is why Australia HAS THE FREEDOMS WE ALL ENJOY TODAY; why we have OUR SOVEREIGNTY.”

      What a silly comment.
All those wars gave us our current way of life in nearly every aspect. The technology invented during wartime is responsible for the high quality of life we have now.
They (wars) did nothing to dint global population, however losing wars would have put us under the rule of either fascists or communists.
I thank our soldiers for not thinking about themselves all that time ago.. they were thinking of their kids, their grand kids, their great great grand kids..
