5:09 when we get to the best way to keep your gecko warm
As my room is pretty worm (19-22C) at all time I'm sticking a heatmat to the side of the terrarium set on low. Geckos love to sleep next to it and they are way more active since I've added it.
reptile heat tape! I have a custom DIY built enclosure from IKEA, a glass hutch i bought and water proofed. Reptile heat tape is completely customizable, meaning it comes in strips that connect together, you can basically create a "Heat pad" (OR outline your tank so the heat is evenly distributed) the entire size of one wall of your tank. For me my enclosure is large, i mean its a glass figurine hutch. So i have entire back of it as a sheet of reptile tape. I have a thermostat set, and the temperature is always 74. EVEN when its snowing outside.
Where did you get it and do you put it on the outside or inside of the tank?
The fact he doesn't have flamethrower on the list makes me wonder. Seriously though this is super helpful I'm gathering my materials right now to get started.
Oh my gosh, I just got my baby today and I’m from Wisconsin. This was super helpful!
Thank you! This helped me a lot. I read the night time bulbs mess with the reptiles circadian rhythm and I was worried. I will be purchasing a ceramic heater bulb!
Setting up my first ever crested gecko vivarium right now! I have my room at 23 degrees year round so I’m going to try this first! If I end up needing more heat I will try the ceramic bulb! Thanks for the info!
I HOPE you meant Celsius and not Fahrenheit bc lord that’s cold 😂
@@shelby.sweetheart haha yeah I’m in Canada! Celsius here for sure
My house usually stays at 70 to 80 year round based on where the AC is and the heat in the winter. I do let sunlight in but it’s across the room. It’s more to just stimulate his cicadic rhythm
This is perfect! Thank you so much!!!
I also live in Wisconsin ! But in the winter I definitely use a space heater but I only run it when home and set a temp on it and I give them a lowww 20 watt ceramic heat emitter with a ledge under it year round . I see a lot of them like to sit under that slightly warmer spot .
Yes they do, especially in those cold Wisconsin winters!
Nano or reg ?
I actually use a space heater in my bedroom. >_> I have RA, and in a stroke of sheer dumb luck the temperature range I need to manage my pain is the same range my crestie thrives in. I only have it on when I'm home, though; otherwise I have a ceramic heat lamp set around 75°F.
I just recently got a small crested gecko and i normally have a cold room, so im trying to find a good heat souce for him
are you keeping him in the same room as you?
Heat your room. And. Put. Curtain to. Not. Sun light and keep heat
I live in the south and it’s always warm, however I’ve had my first freezing and she’s super cold, I’m trying my best to warm her with my hand.
For me using a low watt CHE has worked extremely well for ambient, halogens and such are pretty good for the day, but I agree with it not being good all the time.
What wattage are you using?
@@37Sith 40 watt
I've got a singular cresty. Have a ceramic bulb in a cage on top of the mesh roof. I have the thermo stat prope about 3 or 4 inches below the bulb sitting on two climbing branches. Set up to 28 degrees Celsius (sorry European so don't use Fahrenheit) for day time and not to drop below 16 c at night.
Should I keep the probe at the top or lower it to the bottom?
Been playing around with certain uva basking bulbs for heat gradients. Useless in a smaller tank because it will just heat it the fuck up, however in a very large display tank it does give a small temperature gradient that the geckos seem to like more than not having, but unless you got a big tank, not worth, also if you do any kinda light or ceramic heat emitters you also need to get fan to properly circulate the air.
Oil filled radiator on a herpstat and a warm air humidifier
I'm researching to get my first crestie, but I live in Canada and I prefer having my apartment on the cold side (usually around 18-20C max, or as cold as 15C in winter). Looks like I might have to start acclimatizing myself to warmer temperatures for the sake of my future reptiles. 😅
Love this thank you
Thanks, great video!
Curious of your opinion on the deep heat projectors? Similar to the CHE but they also produce infrared A and B.
What did u decide to do with?
What about a deep heat projector?
with the ceramic heater how often do i keep the heating lamp on?
I got a heat wave rock (thermo controlled) from exo terra but I'm not quite sure about using it after the research I have been doing. What is your advise on this with the crested gecko
I wouldn't, crested geckos do better with ambient heat
Definitely using a heat pad. Room is set to 70 though. Good?
If your room is 70 you probably don't need the heatpad
So i'm converting a glass aquarium into an enclosure for a crested gecko and I was thinking about putting a space heater near the tank at a low temperature and I have a temperature gun so I could make sure it wasn't too hot, but is that unsafe to do?
If you use a CHE with a thermostat, should it be the pulse proportional kind?
Could someone please link a video showing how a ceramic heater is set up as well as what fixture and whether it can be set straight on top of thr mesh or what stand I should use , I can't seem to find one anywhere.
I have a leopard gecko and am planning on getting a crested gecko
Do u recommend a canopy for the top or the vivarium?
if i choose to keep the whole room at 70-75 degrees, i do not need any other heating elements for their tank?
what about lights? Or do i just use the natural light for day and then keep it dark at night?
If you keep the entire room at 70-75, they do not need any other heat source. Crested geckos do not require a UVB light, and so if you do not have live plants in your tank, it is not necessary. However, it is always healthy and beneficial for any animal to have a natural day/night cycle. I would suggest and LED light, set to 8 hours on 16 hours off. A very cheap timer is on amazon for like 2$? You just plug your light into the little timer and the timer plugs into the outlet, very easy. Hope this helps
So I just got my Crested Gecko today and it’s in its shoebox stage because it is about 2 inches. If my room is naturally 72 degrees, would that suffice for it? One more thing… does my new Crested Gecko need any other heat/light source if room temp is 72 degrees?
At 72 you shouldn't need any other heat source.
I am seeing so many different opinions on this.. are infrared heat spot lamps not okay? We live in a cold climate so I am struggling to keep the tank above 70 degrees. I have a 25 watt basking light and 50 Infrared heat spot lamp. Is that going to harm my gecko?
Heatcable Seems to be working for me.
I have a question about lighting, do they need a UVB AND LED lighting or is it better to have one or the other?
Technically they don't need either, I recommend a little natural light if possible.
You can get a ink-bird thermostat for like $20…
I heat the whole gecko room 😄
Keeping my room at about 75 F
I do the same thing
Do they need heat? What if they just in a tank with leaves and hides and ropes and stuff
@@kateupchurchh17 they need a temp range of like 70-78 F. In winter a bit cooler
Looks like I’m going with the heat emitter and thermostat cause my parents set the house to a MAX of 64 in the winter 😭
Oh my God my entire family would mutiny if the temp were kept that low, lol. NONE of us humans are happy under 72°, minimum. I feel so bad for you!
Best method to heat the crested gecko is... NOT AT ALL!!! They need a period of metabolic rest during a cool period exactly as they do in nature. It is sometimes snowing in New Caledonia. Look it up!
my house would freeze geckos if i had no heat for them 3:09
It sounds like I'm going to need a thermostat for my few gecko tanks no matter what 😭
I would 100% recommend it
I know this is an old comment but I always think a stat is best for every single tank, that way you can keep an eye on the right temps at all times :)
Do u keep yours in tank ?
I heat the whole room
I thought crested geckos thrive at room temperature?
They usually do but sometimes extra heat is needed if you're in a climate that gets cold
@@Sostic I see.
Jesus Loves all of you guys
Wish he could show it
