You progressives liberals in this comment section make life hard! Everywhere with superficiality and nothing regarding core principles. Unforms possess overall benefits because of ease and convenience. You literally do this as an adult with work requirements, you don't refute that! Because you're a unit with uniformity. Same as a school.. you go to learn, not a fashion show. A person has the remainder of the day to show off in front of their friends but while you're at school, it's simply for education. I'm regards to finances, the same way poor people buy shoes to show off their "wealth" that they don't have. They can buy their school uniform and save money over expensive name brand items. If they can't afford it, treat is as they do with school lunches with vouchers
The major difference is that we adults can make choices whose costs and benefits we have weighted against each other. Students usually cannot choose their school for themselves. Also, the importance of self-expression and identity is highly dependant on local school laws. For instance, in Germany, "homeschooling" is outlawed because children have a right to socialization. Masking how different financial and other backgrounds influence students and their families goes against that. Also, most of Germany is still hung up on the last time we had school uniforms. (Hitler Youth in the Third Reich)
I’m not into the uniforms thing cause I wanna express myself and I assign different colors for different days of the week. What’s the point of going to school if your clothes are the same dull uniform colors? It’s like being in the army.
@@wx6130 and how are you gonna learn if you’re uncomfortable? I know it’s not a fashion show but being in a uniform looks like dressing up in the 1800s just to feed chickens.
Either school uniforms or a business formal dress code should be implemented. One needs to become more comfortable wearing formal clothes at some point one way or another might as well learn in highschool where it's still more relaxed (of course I expect people to bend those rules, it's highschool).
I think it depends on the school and how they deal with them. In some schools where students wear uniforms, students are more well-behaved, earn better grades, and are more likely to graduate. In other such schools, the opposite is true. There could be an unknown independent variable.
The “it’ll stop discrimination” stuff is a fucking lie I got bullied when wearing uniform because I was more developed than the other kids and also fatter. This showed in my uniform bc clothes only came in certain sizes sometimes my buttons would even pop open w/o me knowing. So even if it stops the poor vs rich discrimination it doesn’t stop other types of discrimination. The distraction thing is also bs nobody gets distracted by others outfits (most of the time.) And lastly the expression argument, on this argument I agree with the non-uniformers. As a kid growing up into a teen the restrictions were tiring you spend 9/10 months every week in school ofc you should be allowed to express yourself. Uniforms are also a problem for trans/gender-non confirming people I say this as i’m non-binary but no adult ever thinks of us smh 😐
@@whizher4887 Well because you guys are kids. Usually with kids and the LBGT, they are either keep changing their minds or pretending like it's a trend. Also of course adults who live way back isn't going to think non-binary, since they believe there is only male and female (Which I believe too, or trans where you can switch). Also I have some questions, where do you pee? Do you use men or women bathroom? What do people see you as, a man or woman, or if someone calls you sir or ma'am while you go to a restaurant, do you take offense? These are questions I'm curious about.
Not to mention they don’t stop poor and rich pupils looking the same because some pupils may only have one uniform and it can get dirty, ratty and worn as parents may not be able to afford multiple uniforms.
Sounds rather authoritarian of you, another reason why I don't support mandatory uniforms when children are involved. Usually, adults can choose who to work for. Children often rely on their parents or legal guardians to choose the school for them.
I think we need to look at what we are trying to achieve at school. Surely we are trying to prepare young people for the world of adulthood and work. I have been working in the IT industry for nearly 30 years, and travel to many different businesses both large and small. During that time I have seen most companies ditch their draconian dress policies in favour of allowing their staff to express themselves and be comfortable. In all these companies, this has correlated to an increase in productivity from staff. It also seems to allow the staff to interact with their managers and director teams far better. Increasingly now it's rare to see anyone wear a suit and tie on a daily basis for work. I'm afraid I don't buy into the argument that a school uniform provides a level playing field for all children and prevents bullying. When I was at school in the early 90's (with a school uniform) it just shifted the focus onto which brand of bag, earrings or watch you had. It seems increasingly at odds with schools, in some cases, being the only place where you can buy a particular item of school uniform and the prices seem exceptionally high. The only reason I can think for schools to still maintain the uniform is for easy identification of students during school hours. However the headache for teachers having to enforce policies and appear to treat each child equally must be very time consuming. Likewise for parents who have to leave work to collect their child, as has been the case, when, for example, a haircut is deemed to be not acceptable. For me, the ability for a school to suspend a student for an item of clothing or a haircut, and for that child to miss out on lessons, is quite frankly, indefensible. There should also be no rules governing things such as haircuts and makeup usage, especially in todays society. People, especially young people have been brought up in the Instagram generation, being forced to present with "no makeup" must cause a lot of anxiety in some cases. Makeup, hairstyles and uniform have no bearing on a child's ability to learn, however if they feel secure and comfortable in their appearance, then I believe, we would find them performing better.

Look, lots of people like myself grow up to wear uniforms to work. I am a nurse so I wear a uniform, police, fire fighters, service attendents. Are you going to make a video about these people. I love dresses but have to wear trousers most of my week because of work, you just suck it up, nothing you can do. About half of the kids in every class room is going to grow up to wear some type of uniform.
Yes, but we adults can choose our line of work. Our choices arise from informed decisions whose costs and benefits we have weighted against each other. Students usually cannot choose their school for themselves.
Conformity versus individuality on this, and many other topics has always been a false dichotomy or an outright lie. If schools tell students that they can express themselves however they want, they’re still conforming to the school’s wishes. It should be about expressing and reinforcing what values and principles are deemed respectable and will be an actual benefit to society to carry on. That is what must be enforced without hesitation. People can whine all they want, that’s near irrelevant.
The UK, Ireland and Russia are the only European countries where kids where a uniform to school. I went to school in Germany for 5 years and got picked on for having cheap clothes once and my classmates and teachers spoke up for me. We didn't have a dress code either. I once saw a teacher ask my classmate "don't you know it's considered rude to wear a hat indoors?" The kid said "oh", and put his hat on the desk. It wasn't a rule, just that teachers opinion. In the UK, I got picked on every single mufti day and seemingly every time my classmates saw me outside school because normal clothes were a big, special thing to them. We don't solve ginger bashing by making kids dye their hair the same colour. We don't solve racism by making people colour themselves the same and speak in a uniform accent. Normalise normal clothes!! If anything, make the bullies wear the uniform as a punishment for picking on kids because of their clothes. As for "preparing kids for the workplace", it's not like when the first day of work comes, a new employee will tell their boss: "I wasn't conditioned to wear a uniform throughout my childhood, so I'll have to pass on the salary". As for it being smart, that's a matter of taste. I think it looks shoddy and it's not like you've learned to make an effort if your outfit was picked out for you.
I focus more On my appearance since I have a uniform it’s really ugly ngl it’s tan and fucking uncomfortable do I look like I’m in the Middle East in the war ..... no
I believe very much in a a school dress code. These kids can all wait till they get home to dress as scantily clad as they wanna dress. NOT IN SCHOOL MAN
School is for learning not for expressing your individuality. That's your personal business and u take care of that on your own time. I grew up in a country where all schools both public and private use uniforms. Cost was a no brainer since u could even get them from a 99 cent store if u felt like it, only thing that mattered were the right colors. Everyone pretty much got along pretty well and I formed strong bonds with people I'm still in touch with today even though the majority went on to college, technical, or trade school and the rest went into the military.
I HATE THEM JUST MAKE ITS A FLIPPING ROLE NO DESIGNER AND GUESS WHAT SCHOOL UNICORN IS 300 pounds and I can find a outfit what is 5 pounds And I can not feel confident in school uniform cause I can not express my self or feel comfy
I think it is a shame that you have dropped the distinction between pupils and students, as formerly existed in the UK! I know why it has been done, but believe you are misguided. It has been done to show more respect to those in schools (which most of you also now call "Academies", using capitalisation that also breaks the rules of your once excellent language). Yet by doing so, you deny the brightest pupils a word in the language that reflects their new found independence and responsibility for their own education and life when they become STUDENTS in higher education. That is why I lament the loss of the distinction: pupils in schools, students at university or higher education. You English have no doubt done this as a reaction to the former authoritarian ethos of schooling you used to have a few years ago. You want to show your young people more respect, which of course is laudable. Yet ironically, where I live in the Scandinavian countries, there has never been a "top down" authoritarian school, and frankly I think democracy for school children can sometimes go a little too far - and yet, in all our languages, the distinction is fast between "elev" (=pupil) and "student" (=student).

To study??
The point of school is to learn, not to show off your sense of fashion. Its SCHOOL and a fashion show.
@@kingkiller5325 yeah, and not look like a prisoner
@@wx6130 and how are you gonna learn if you’re uncomfortable? I know it’s not a fashion show but being in a uniform looks like dressing up in the 1800s just to feed chickens.
@@nicolewatterson2893 You think only prisoners where uniform?
Thanks! Your video help me to do my English exam!
Either school uniforms or a business formal dress code should be implemented. One needs to become more comfortable wearing formal clothes at some point one way or another might as well learn in highschool where it's still more relaxed (of course I expect people to bend those rules, it's highschool).
It may be best for both pros and cons al depends what school a child is going to and the age group.
What is your name so i can credit you in an essay
Just put my channel name down
I think it depends on the school and how they deal with them. In some schools where students wear uniforms, students are more well-behaved, earn better grades, and are more likely to graduate. In other such schools, the opposite is true. There could be an unknown independent variable.
There are no cons
Are two plates mandatory in indian schools for girls??pls tell..
Yes!!
This video is really good and useful, I will probably use most of these points in my schools debate club
I sense a really powerful Twitter energy coming from you.
@@benoitlaurent8592 I don’t have social media besides yt
What’s controversial about it? The pros clearly outweigh the cons. Individuality? Codswallop!
No
Sounds rather authoritarian of you, another reason why I don't support mandatory uniforms when children are involved.
Good

A very nice and straightforward presentation. Well done!
Thanks!
School uniforms made me hate studying and go to school, the school I am in are very strict school they promote uniforms (Students wear) instead of the main factor (Education) 😅
I have a uniform and it’s comfortable
Individuality comes from within, not from what you own or wear.
Watching this in 2021
I like school uniforms they look wonderful
They look terrible and uncomfortable and hard to learn in
Maybe where you’re from
Look, lots of people like myself grow up to wear uniforms to work.
I think it looks shoddy and it's not like you've learned to make an effort if your outfit was picked out for you.
i like school uniforms because if my school had it. it would prevent kids from wearing pride flags to school as capes.
Why do u care

School is for learning not for expressing your individuality. That's your personal business and u take care of that on your own time. I grew up in a country where all schools both public and private use uniforms. Cost was a no brainer since u could even get them from a 99 cent store if u felt like it, only thing that mattered were the right colors. Everyone pretty much got along pretty well and I formed strong bonds with people I'm still in touch with today even though the majority went on to college, technical, or trade school and the rest went into the military.
Who cares?
