  • I know what you're thinking ... that's a lot of little diamonds. But guess, what, we're strip piecing this baby and you don't have to cut a single tiny diamond!
    For Ultraviolet, this month's Stashin' with Stephanie pattern inspired by this month's Alison Glass Art Theory bundle, we are using offset strip piecing to create 60-degree pieced diamonds.
    By placing the fabrics strategically from light to dark we are able to create a really cool effect when all the diamond blocks are assembled with NO Y-seams!
    In this month's tutorial I not only show you how to piece the block with loads of tips on how I got all my points just right. But I also cover how to assemble the rows into wedges, join the rows and join the wedges to complete the quilt top.
    This top can absolutely be completed by an advanced beginner. Just take it slow, mark your 1/4 inch on the wrong side of your rows, like I show you in the video and you too will have an awesome quilt with points that will make all your quilty friends jealous.

    I turned this pattern into a Queen size by adding a little background border and larger color border. The star stays on the bed with the borders hanging down. I LOVE it!! Makes me even more excited to crawl in bed every night 😍

    Just browsed your fabrics for sale; such a wonderful selection you have. I’m into batiks these days and I really enjoyed seeing a collection with no batiks included. It’s always nice to see alternatives. There must be hundreds of kinds of fabric available online.
    Stay safe

    I just downloaded the pattern. I'm going to try it with a Jelly Roll as I just purchased a Michael Miller set called refractions. This may require some cutting adjustments, but I'm up for the challenge! Great pattern!

      after watching this tutorial i think using jelly rolls or cutting my own yardage would be just the ticket! i was mesmerized by the design and construction but had anxiety over the repeated warnings at various steps that any tiny tiny cutting error would result in not enough fabric to make all the pieces 😮

    First time viewer. Gorgeous quilt top! I had to have two molars root canaled, one top and one bottom right opposite each other, over the last few months. I have to allow time for the bone to heal before the crown goes in. I wish I could join your club but I am in Australia.

    This is an interesting technique but I much prefer Donna Jordan’s approach. It uses strip sets, as here, but sews the strips together, offsetting the strips and then cuts at a 45 degree angle 2.5” wide. It’s very accurate and minimizes the handling of bias edges. She’s very conscious of SOG and has a method of cutting the diamonds to preserve more grain stability. Jenny Doan uses a similar method.
    I’m not saying that your method is wrong and your result is lovely. You handle the pieces gently and iron very carefully which really minimizes stretching on the bias. It was fun to watch your method and your pleasure in the fabric. It’s just that there are faster ways which greatly reduce the problems with bias edges.

    • @QuiltAddictsAnonymous
      @QuiltAddictsAnonymous  Před 2 lety

      That method wastes a good amount of fabric. We want to use as much of the fat quarter as possible.

    Can you recommend a good starter quilt for someone who can sew reasonably well but hasnt made a quilt before. I want something a bit harder than just squares, however it could be squares, that make other shapes. I absolutely love Allison Glass, she is my favorite designer, ODILE is great, Tilda, Andthen Tula. Colors are very popular right now I think

      @QuiltAddictsAnonymous  Před rokem +1

      We have two courses you should check out. Our beginner quilting series takes your through all the steps of making a quilt. It is just squares, but in a more interesting design than most beginner classes: academy.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/course/beginner-quilting/
      But if you’re feeling extra adventurous, we also have a Triangle Master class that is basically like our intermediate quilting course: academy.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/course/triangle-masterclass/

    Love the pattern but love even more the pattern is available as a down load. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 As a viewer from South Wales UK it is so frustrating to see a video of a quilt I really would love to make but a)the cost of postage for the pattern is outrageous. One pattern I loved was $12, the postage $35😱😱😣😣 Or b)the supplier does not post to the UK. 😢😢😢 So heartfelt thanks for excellent tutorials of beautiful quilt and downloadable patterns.👏👏👏👍👍👍😊😊😊

    I just started cutting my fabric and I’m trying to be extra careful to not mis-cut anything. My question is on the Spectrum Feathers fabric do you cut it WOF or across the grain. I think across the grain. Am I overthinking this? Thanks for your help.

    • @cheriewilliams8428
      @cheriewilliams8428 Před 2 lety

      Disregard. I figured it out by re-reading the directions. It’s WOF to get a 21” strip. I found it useful to use Ruler Stickers on my ruler when cutting to double check myself on the ruler placement before making the cut. So far so good.

    I think it was in bad form to send the items and change the date from the usual 25th of the month with no warning this was going to happen going into a holiday week. Was traveling and did not get the info until after it was sold out after the 24 hrs. Again bad form for your loyal subscribers!
