By Monday, you will be able to drive through the new highway 99 tunnel under the Seattle waterfront. But there are places you won't be able to see through your windshield, and that's where we are taking you.
Well, just like Boston, they forgot the most important sign, "Use ya blinkah!"
It was done right.
Bright sunlight? In Seattle?
EPIC.
They should turn part of the underside of the tunnel into a pedestrian or bike bypass. That'd be really cool.
Would be cool, but none of those fire safety things is down there :( They’d have to rebuilt, and they can’t connect to the stuff on the next level because of the curvature of the tunnel.
That would be cool, but only useful for people travelling the whole length of the tunnel. It would be better to add a cycle path to the surface, now more space is cleared by moving motor traffic below.
I mean it would be a neat idea but the idea of putting the road underground was so that there wasn't a freeway blocking access to the coast, creating more sidewalks and bike paths in the process. Opening a bike path in a gloomy tunnel would be counterintuitive
I'm from Toronto tooo
I suspect they'll have pedestrian and bike accommodations on the old viaduct route above ground where you can actually see and do stuff.
LMAO didn't the automatic fan system fail on day one
The generators are not fueled by natural gas, then?
Dead Freight West
No by usual diesel.
@@axel-adrienrobert1145 - Interesting. Seems odd, though.
Most generators are just a diesel engine strapped to a Dynamo.
I drove thru the tunnels in Boston for years. 2 go under the harbor to and from the airport. I don't get why there is such hype about this Seattle tunnel. Are tunnels all that new in the region.
everything is new here... and how if not being such a hype city management gonna get those wasted money covered/everyone forget about them after all. Just listen to the WA governor opening speech - disgusting!
It's not so much hype for the tunnel itself, it's that with the tunnel in place the Alaskan Way Viaduct can be torn down, which is a big deal.
Have they even do a flood test???
Where's Bertha now?
and let me guess, it costs less for the drivers than 407ETR
Alex Su 1404B Haha yah the 407 is expensive
우리나라처럼 터널 비상구가 음산(?)하지 않네요 또 이런 영상도 없어서 많은국민들이 어떻게 생겼는지 모른답니다...
So? It’s a tunnel. Must not be common in the northwest.
I live in an area of Virginia where we have TEN tunnels. On top of that, people here actually WANT them to build more. We had a new span of the Midtown Tunnel open in 2016, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is building a new adjacent tunnel to the existing south one, and VDOT is building a third tunnel for the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel by 2024.
EDIT: I guess I should clarify we have 5 underwater crossings and 10 tubes.
1:06 - IT'S GEORGE LUCAS LOL
Big fans to disperse weed smoke . Nice lighting for their junkies to pass out in stay dry and warm.
How about the toll, that never should be in place since day 1? Or the poorly managed project from the beginning to ourdays, how about a way more serious/heavy traffic tunnel project located in Boston with exits/entriy ramps in the city, not just a stupid 3 mile pipe run north to south and back. People around here must wake up ASAP and be more strict on the wasteful city budget control
You do know what a "bypass" is, right? The tunnel is meant to serve traffic moving through downtown, not as a way to get in and out of downtown.
Tunnels are not new! I don’t understand why this project is getting so much hype, have you never seen a tunnel before?
it's Seattle, a city in great NWP 2.5 hours south of Vancouver, BC
It's not about the tunnel, it's about what it replaces. Now that the tunnel is there, the viaduct can go away.
By having the tunnel, seattle can have a waterfront park to replace traffic. Course state reps will make sure to toll..
Looks impressive. Better than musks stupid pipe.
Musks tunnel is just a stupid tunnel for Tesla’s only.
Stupid.
This thing is seriously better.
looks can be deceiving lol all it takes is 1 idiot to fuck shit up for the rest
elon's pipe isn't funded by taxpayers so why is yall hating?
@@drfusioncraft elons pipe is for rich electric car people. This can be used by all citizens.
Gavin Mcinally well I mean it is in testing stages you idiot
cool! but, i'd say we can do better.
NoLeads Ent. How? Its a fucking tunnel....
That's a lot of operating cost. Stupid small tunnel
America's biggest boondoggle. 2 miles of pointlessness.
Unless u have a sportscar. Then it's basically amazing
