This all goes back to the context of the breakup, even though Bronya and Mei can still connect with Kiana but they still can't meet face to face, especially at APHO2 Mei behaves as if Kiana is dead/disappeared which is reinforced by Theresa's words which equates to the loss she has experienced Mei is the same as the loss she experienced (Theresa is sad for Otto's death)

and now we see kiana is just laying around studying eating junk food and talking/playing with klein on the moon or talking with mei and bronya via "google meet"
im pretty sure the first ending was scrapped away and hoyo gave us a full happy ending
