YOUNG KILLPEN RESCUE HORSE DOESN'T LIKE STRANGERS 😭 *Challenging Horse Adjustment*

- Meet OLIVE, a young horse rescued from a killpen with her mother PHOENIX and now living at Bergen County Horse Rescue. She bonded heavily with her caretaker and doesn't really like strangers, so its going to be a little work getting her used to me and gaining her trust to get a few adjustments in. Her caretakers noticed a little discomfort while lunging, so I am going to take a look!

The leading organization, in my opinion, that has Veterinarians and Chiropractors that become Animal Chiropractors is the Animal Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) They have a website with a "Find a Doctor" tab/database: www.animalchiropractic.org
This a good resource for all that are looking for a well trained doctor near them.

12:19: I love that the goat was so interested in what you were doing as well
Me too so funny!
I thought the goat was saying,,,,,, nnnneeeexxxxt!
I love the way the goat was watching you
Me too! So funny!
I love his patience with the horse when she didn’t understand and he wanted to help. No frustration!
Thank you!
You’re welcome Dr. Doug
I can definitely see the difference in the left hind after the adjustment. She’s still favoring it a bit, you can see the slight hesitation in her step, but there’s definitely much better range of motion now. And the constant head shaking lessened considerably after the poll adjustment. I really enjoy watching you work with the horses. I remember the first time I had our vet do a chiropractic adjustment on my horse. He was like whoa what just happened. We would do our horses once a month, and they loved it. So much so that we didn’t even need to position them. When the vet would do their polls they would helpfully put their heads in position without touching them, then the vet would climb up on the tailgate to do their backs and hips they would literally walk over to the tailgate and position themselves without being led. I could take the lead rope off my old gelding out in the open and he would stand for his head then walk over to the truck on his own. Once they figure out it feels good, they know who the magic maker is.
Wow that‘s absolutely awesome! Maybe one day they will come and put their head on my shoulder for a poll adjustment. haha ! Thanks for sharing that with us.
I feel bad for horses. They just can get a bad lot at life. My boy was like her when I got him. Trust, patience, good energy goes a long way. You're a blessing to these animals Dr Doug😊
Wow that‘s awesome! Thanks for sharing your story.
She was definitely very cautious. Loud crack in the poll and pelvis. It was nice to see you build trust with Olive.
Thank you Calvin and Jeff, this one was not a Boston terrier! Haha! Yes she was pushy and showed dominance. Not so easy.
🤣🤣 The goat @12:20 and 😯😯Erin @ 12:25 and of course the thunderous ⚡cavitations throughout!
Great work Doc, as always.
Thanks for the funny timestamp Boo! Nice to have you here!
Wow! look how relaxed she is holding her head after that adjustment! Day and night difference!
Yes! I noticed that too!
Thanks for watching Guinevere.
The level of patience and care in this is beautiful to watch. And relaxing.
When the woman says she’ll need an adjustment after this😂
The pelvis was massive, even made the goat look!
I could see a difference in the walk at the end.
A great video.
The goat was like, me next please doc?
Vaga! Did you see the goat on the fence 🤣
Thank you very much Vaga, patience yes! Killpen horses are not always easy to handle, mostly they are traumatized horses. I did my best with her and I hope I could help. She was pushy and showing much dominance. No wonder she fights for the leading place in her herd. Have a nice Sunday my friend.
@@dellzywillis3001 totally, I think he now subscribes😂 Hi, I hope you’re doing well
@@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen you are amazing, inspirational, heartwarming, and you do beautiful work
I am fascinated when a horse gets a chiropractic adjustment. Don't ride but still facinating.
That’s awesome to hear. Thanks Doris.
Thank you for all the work that's being done for Olive. Any being that is abused will have a lot of unpacking to do and will store a lot of trauma within the body tissues. It's so sad that people can be so abusive. If you can't treat an animal right, don't bring one into your life. Find a place where they can be treated with dignity. Thank you for all the work that was done for her and so many others. Speaking for the voiceless 💕💜
Well said! Thanks Marta.
Poor Olive [her history when she was young].
Another great job there Dr. Doug and rescue team.
I think Olive was one of those 'sceptics' at first and then was a fan/convinced at the end! lol
Yes sad story.
12:24 gotta love the cameraman panning to the right to see the goat
Haha! Thanks!
I'll get it right this time, Doc OLIVE sure is a beauty! Once you have her full trust, she should be like putty in your hands! Have a wonderful rest of your weekend, everyone!
Hope so! not so easy! Thanks for sharing Vickie.
@@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen Thank YOU, Sir, for helping all of these wonderful critters!
Dr Doug you are such a good person. You are so caring to all animals ❤. Thanks for all you do Dr Doug. I wish there was more people like you. Imagine how great this world would be.
Great comment Beth! So true. 🤗
Awww very kind and encouraging of you Beth, I want to do more and better, I want to keep going on with learning and helping. Thank you so much for your great support Beth.
Dr Doug.
You do so much for the BCHR family, it means a lot to the animals and us humans too!
Awww thank you it‘s such a pleasure.
G'day Olive 🙂 As your a bit reluctant to properly appreciate Douglas I will make the effort and thank him myself 😁 So, Thank You Douglas in lieu of Olive via Mark in Australia 🙃
Hahaha! I really love your way Mark! So glad you are always here, supporting my friend.👍🏼🙏🏻
Dr Doug you do such great work on these animals. We need more people like you in this world. Thank you for helping them all
Couldn't agree with you more Debbie 👍
Awww this is motivating me! Thank you so much for your support.
@@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen You are so welcome. It's the truth.
@@Mark_Linford Thanks
Dr. Doug, I am always fascinated with the gain of trust so quickly. I took the deep breathing as Olive's way of letting go of her fear of you. But then what do I know 🤔 🤣 in any case great job to everyone involved.
Well it was just a „little peace of trust“….just enough to get two good adjustments! 😅
That crack sounded like a clap of thunder 😮
Wow! ⚡️
I love the videos where you spend the time to build trust ❤️
It is quite important trying to establish a contact in the horse „language“…you have more chances to gain a confident horse. I‘m still learning and try my best.☺️ thank you so much for watching Adrianne.
Olive is Dr Doug's new best bud! She was feeling better after those big cracks and when you go back the goat wants a little Dr Doug time. 🤣 Thank you Dr Doug
The goat and Dr Doug time! Haha! Maybe next time! Thanks Barb. for watching this one.
Olive was great to watch, but my personal favorite is @12:33 Dr. Doug laughsnort... now I don’t feel so alone when this happens to me on occasion 😆😉🙏. Really is a job of patience to try and slow ones own heart rate and gain trust to adjust such a large animal in such a short time. So glad you were able to help her! Thanks again Dr. Doug!!!
Who doesn’t like the goat! Haha! Tough approach to olive, she has so much to learn. Thanks for sharing Rains.
That was a great laugh
Id like an update on this one!
We will see!
Great job on a "cautious" horse!!! Definitely a change in her walk!! Live watching you work!!!
Bridge
Thank you again Bridge, so grateful for your support.
Awh olive… so nervous. My mare was the same because she got flipped on the crossties as a baby and her front left shoulder had to be adjusted before EVERY RIDE or she’d end up lame. Also, love Bergen county horse rescue!! Almost took a job there
Wow amazing! Thanks so much for sharing your story.
Dr Willen, Aaron and Caroline are so amazing 👍, what they’re doing is fantastic. Olive story is sad but I’m happy that she and her mom Phoenix are in great 👍hands. The pole adjustment was great but Dr Doug, when you got up on that thing and adjusted Olive’s lover back that was so awesome 👏, and loud. Hope she feels better, she really trusted you and you took your time and were very delicate with her. Have a nice weekend doc
Emma!!! I hope you and your family are having a great weekend. 🤗
Thank you so much Emma, have a nice weekend too.
@@dellzywillis3001 Hi 👋Barbara, I hope you and your family are having a great 👍weekend as well 😍
Hey Olive -- you are going to be hot to trot with that adjustment. Doesn't it feel good to move more freely? Dr Doug is the best, and he'll come back and help you feel even better!
Awww thank you Floating…always here watching old animal cracker! ☺️🙏🏻
Wow that was a big crack! Definitly see the straight leg thing. I was thinking the knee or ankle thing too. Seems she was leaning into you like a dog at the end. Which is a good thing. Hope she continues to improve. Beautiful animals!
Got it!👍
You got it! Thanks for always being here supersunshine22! I appreciate it very much.
Dr Doug.
Olive be strong and Thank You Dr. and the Caretaker's!!!
Yes thank you to the caretakers.
@13:48 I have to take a moment to appreciate the horsemanship of the curly haired woman in the middle. She set the boundary for the horse entering her space. The woman did not move her feet. She threw her head, and put a hand up, while making a click and the horse stopped and put its head down a bit and turned. This is a sign of respect and recognizing where she, the horse, is in the hierarchy. Good work! @bergencountyhorserescue
👍🏼 thanks for sharing Charity!
Beautiful girl. No animal should face cruelty, but Olive has many years to learn to trust that she is safe, and her humans are kind. Dr Doug, you have so much information to share, i always learn something new ❤
You had an audience. That goat was so interested when you were above Olive working on her pelvis. Cute. Thank you for your volunteering with the various rescues.
You’re welcome! I just try to help the best I can.
Thank you Dr. For letting us watch you help all these animals. It’s beautiful to watch as they go from afraid I’m backing away from you to coming toward you again, thank you for letting us peek in at the work you do with all these animals.
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching!
Morning, Doc! Olive is just LOVELY- I think she liked you from the beginning but she wanted to control the situation…😊 And she was so calm with the hip adjustment! Such great people rescuing these precious creatures. Thank you for a lovely video!
You’re Welcome Sabine! Good morning to you. Yes she was pushy, she needs to learn that human can’t be pushed like horses. Not always easy when you rescue a horse from killpen.
The goat was enjoying watching the treatment too
Yes haha!! Gorgeous.
Olive! Girl you are so brave! I think the goat in the pen behind Olive and Dr. Willen heard the loud noise from the back adjust. He came up to the fence after the sound and put his front feet on the fence lol. So stinkin LOUD! Lol Good brave girl Olive!🤗🥰💖
Haha! That was sort of a funny pic with the goat! Thanks Cheri.
I love that you use horse whispering techniques here! Greeting her like that, absolutely delightfull
Glad you like it!
Good show😊👍💕
Thank you!
Great job Doc. The goat was an added bonus 😊
Haha yes! Cute funny goat!
Love you Olive ❤❤❤❤❤
Awww thank you!
Olive's a beauty but whatever happened to her in that kill pen and with the adoption that didn't take is gonna take her some time to overcome. I'm amazed at how brave you were working with her. I kept watching her toss her head, pin her ears, saw her pivot, and yet you were able to do some adjustments on her - bravo 👏👏👏 I'm gonna call you Dr. Doug Braveheart for this one, lol.
Braveheart ! Wow! Thank you!☺️
Just another day at the office (one of many) for the great and powerful Dr Doug Willen.... chiropractor extraordinaire!
Way to go doc!!! 👍👏💪💪💪
Awww that’s really awesome Shawn! ☺️
This is a good way to tell people to take good care of animals. Thanks, Dr. Doug! I enjoyed watching it!❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it Comfy.
Most difficult adjustment to a nervous mare like this. Great work👏👏👏
Thanks you! Not always easy!
Beautiful creature 💕 I love that goat in the background 😅 I think she wants a treatment too 🥰
Yes ! So funny!
💗💗💗 Love to Olive and Doc and the caretakers.
Thank you! ☺️🙏🏻
Good cracking Dr. D!!
And you have my favorite sweater on!
Haha! Glad you like my sweater! Thanks for sharing.
Great job, Dr. Doug! 🙏💜🇺🇸
Thanks Diane! ☺️
That was awesome!! ❤
Thanks Kelley.
Glad the horse is more calm/relaxed now.
Heard it!!
Good one 💥 thanks
I’m living for the nosy goat in the background 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Funny goat!
Olive was definitely one of my favorite adjustment cases. Spirited but out of pain. Great job! the sound effects are amazing
Dr. Doug, I watch you every single day. You're such an upbeat guy and you do so much good in your section of the world! The love must spread because lots of CZcams watches you, people that know about you. Thank You for helping these animals! if I was able bodied and younger (I'm 63 and handicapped) I would love to do what you do! ❤ At least be a part of it. I would trust you as a chiropractor also, which I pretty much need desperately but that's not going to happen I live in Denver and little money. But I really enjoyed watching working with the horses and also with the birds I think that's really cool! I have a cat's why I always watch those too. ❤😊 That's a beautiful paint pony that you're standing next to!!
Olive is a lovely mare. Thank you for helping her get out of pain! 🐴😃
You’re so welcome Rod and Judi
You are everything Dr. Doug.
Awww thank you Suzanne.

You have the patients a saint dr Doug . I just love how you take the time for them to gain trust. You are amazing!
Awww thank you for the kind words.
Your welcome. I just enjoy watching your vids.
Animals are fascinating. I loved how the goat looked closely as if he were saying, “Ooh…what’s this all about? Olive okay?? I want my back to crack like that!” 😂❤❤
Yes funny isn’t it!
The goat 😂
Haha! Funny goat!
Thank you Dr. Willan, what a wonderful person you are! Olive is lovely; such a sweetheart! Many blessings to all.
Thank you kindly!
Ever since I was a child I have always been a very big advocate for chiropractic on human beings I never realized just how much good it could do for animals as well but it makes a lot of sense.
Yes exactly! If they have a spine like us, they have misalignments too! Thanks for sharing Samantha.
Another day , another miracle!!!!!!!!!!
Wow!
Your patience and ability to 'listen' is truly amazing .
Great job Dr Doug . Such patience !
Thanks ☺️
Heartwarming. ❤
That's beautiful!!!! I love how you don't force her!! That's natural horsemanship.. when you were just in front of the croup that was a huge crack!! Even the goat came to look!! LOL she has a longer reach in that left hind leg now and you can totally see the difference in her eyes as well!! I would love to see Olive after a couple more sessions and see the transformation!! You really do great work!! I keep saying it but it's true!
Bridge
Wow That‘s awesome, thank you so much Bridge.
Great job Olive.
Wonderful job Dr Doug.
God bless the rescue for all that they do too.
How lucky for them that Dr Doug loves them and adjusts them. 🙋🏻♀️♥️🇺🇸
Wow Thanks Peggy. Nice to see you today.
Excellent work ❤
Thanks Fransisco for your support.
That warms my heart!! You are amazing. What a wonderful vibe. Sending love 💃🐎💖
Thanks for your love Toni! Amazing support!
God bless you prayers for you and your family 🙏❤️ I've been waiting for that video finally got a notification. Pretty funny with the goat in the background. Prayers for Olive. Loved how she looked well taken care of ❤️
Terry you are my best prayer in the community, I appreciate it and so grateful for your support. Thank you so much!🙏🏻
She was a bit shy of you at first. Interesting watching the elephant stance being used as a non-aggressive horse-whispering gesture. "All roundy." ⚪ After you got her neck adjusted, she came around and nibbled at you and loved on you. I bet she becomes a very fine ride for someone, what with all the gracious, caring hands from you and the rescuers.
Thanks Warren for your nice comment.
Thank you for helping so much. Sure have a good heart
Awesome comment! I can’t say but I do try my best! ☺️
It’s really good that you’re taking your time, I’m glad you are
Aww thank you circle! I don’t like to be in a hurry and do things!
Nice to see the progress.
Yes next time I hope!
Slow and steady is wonderful
Yes! Absolutely!
kind humans, love it!
Thank you D Webb.
I can't understand how a horse can feel your heartbeats and mood, feeling if You're nervous. But i understand that a horse trust you more when you make you small, the same with foals when You're on your knees. Also when you breath because they here it.
The crack on her pelvis was like you broke something. And with the musle on her neck, (was it the atlas?) She was chewing and moving her head, showing her relieve. So good there are people like you who are helping all kind of animals. What is the diference between a chiropract and an osteopath? 🥰👍
Thanks you for the long comment. The adjustment of the poll is the are between the atlas (1st vertebra) and the base of the skull (occipital bone).
An osteopath is a doctor that focuses on the physical manipulation of the tissues, muscles, and bones. A chiropractor focuses more on the spine and joint, but he does work as well on the muscle. Hope that helps. Thanks for sharing.
Likes, 😆 funny goat standing up on fence. Good work on horse.
Yes ! the goat was so funny.
Doug, great adjustments as always!
Wow, thank you Sharon!
@Animal Cracker: Dr. Doug Willen you give me another reason that makes me wish I had a horse! You give such relief to a hurting animal that can't tell you exactly where it hurts. You improve their quality of life immensely! Some of the older horses have been hurting for such a long time.
Good job Olive 🎉
Thank you for her!
Fascinating. Nice horse. Olive likes you.
Yes, thank you!
You are amazing. A Miracle Man.
I wish I could work miracle! 😀
What a difference a day makes w your magic touch!
Sometimes great, sometimes we need more!
The goat in the back is like, "Can you do me next?"
Yes! funny!
Wow… just Wow!!!
Hi Ninja! Hope you are well, thanks for watching.
@@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen I’m am ok thank you!! Hope you are doing well also. This was an amazing video that had my full attention. Olive both feeling uncomfortable physically and having anxiety to me nervously watching as you walk around, hoping neither humans get headbutted.. then ahhh, relief with that amazing second pop on the lumbar/pelvic area. I didn’t have words at the moment, I was amazed. Obviously I’m full of words now lol.
The little goat wants some of that.... so cute. Great work going on here...💛
Yes thank you!☺️😂
That was amazing 🤩
Aww thank you so much Toni!
I don't know that those ladies energies aren't calm enough.

Hey Doc, I may be wrong but it looks like both hind legs are adapting in word a bit. After the adjustment it appeared that the right hind leg was adducting inward so perhaps more adjustments later? I’m just a registered nurse for humans and thank you so much for teaching us. I wonder if she has any grain as she seemed very amped and hyper. I would keep her on hey for a few days before your visit if possible.

Awww so sorry to hear about your depression.
Did u see the goat casually walk away after the pelvic crack😂😂😂 I wont be having any of that🤔🤔🤔
aww poor goat! ☺️

Thank goodness for fast forward .
Thanks for watching Kimberly
What a beautiful girl! You can tell she was spunky lol. But I always love watching you build trust with animals.
I have a question: I have an old yorkie-poo mix who keeps getting a catch in his neck. It's happened a few times during his life and eventually works itself out, but when it happens I hate that I can't do anything to make him feel better; he can barely sleep or drink because he doesn't want to lower his head. I don't think I can afford the massage your own dog course or a vet visit right now, so I was just wondering if there was anything small I could do just to help him relax and ease the pain a little?
I’m so sorry to hear the Drawing, but it’s difficult to say without seeing your dog and check myself his issues. I hope you understand. Thanks for watching.
@@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen I assumed that'd be the case but I understand. Thanks for the reply!
