Will Ferrell has looked like he was 45 years old his entire life.
Samuel FlaBra he has!
Haha so true. He’s 28 here ?!
He's in the Jeff Lynne club
👍🏼😂👍🏼
He's amazing though. I really believed he was a playful kitty! :P
His audition was so good they made full skits out of each part. GOAT
'They' is actually he. The cast writes their own skits. Not all the time but that's the best way to get airtime.
🙄 you spelled EDDIE MURPHY wrong.
@@AnnaWillo Definitely. Will is hilarious.
@@bluemystic7501 Even Colin Jost and Michael Che are expected to contribute sketch ideas and in some cases even full sketches, when their primary job is to do Weekend Update every week.
For instance Michael Che wrote Gen-Z Hospital for the Elon Musk episode.
What is GOAT???
Makes you realize how helpful it is to have a responsive audience. Parts of that were really gutsy with just hearing crickets.
Apparently they're told to not laugh so that way it doesn't influence the performance in any way.
That’s correct. Part of the audition process is doing it front of Lorne Michaels and a handful of others and there are no laughs. Has to make it that much more nerve wracking.
There were probably only 3-10 people in the auditorium because it was an audition. That's why you only hear a couple claps after each sketch. Only the people who decide who gets on the show needed to be there. I doubt there was more of an audience than that. They do the same thing for plays --- it's no where near a full audience. Plus it's an audition so they let the actor do their thing without interrupting much.
I guarantee you I could totally get that job
Stevar Namik I’ll look for you next season then.
That business man playing with cat toys bit was genius. Who thinks of stuff like that? Unreal. God I love Will Ferrell
and ending with that is amazing. full on tweaking out on the floor, then "thank you very much!" hahaha.
This kid has promise, I can feel it.
Best comment ever! Lol!!
I already heard Kanye saying that about McCartney
Stomedy's I think he'll go along way.
I feel it down in ma plums!
Did he get the job?
Will is one of those comedians that doesn’t even have to say anything. I just look at him and start laughing.
explain your profile pic
KDGaming It’s CZcams personality Tommy Sotomayor. He was wearing a Michael Jackson mask.
That what my cousin is like, except he isn't a comedian, he just lost an arm in the war
You’re just easy is what it is
Lord me too!!
Ha. Not an ounce of hesitation. He knows his material and act is gold.
He came up with most of that in the middle of the night before the audition. He had met with Lorne Michaels the day before and went over some of what he was going to do, and Lorne told him to throw it all out. Truly amazing comedic mind.
Its not. Just a few parts.
Amazing how quiet it is. Must be terrifying.
Pretty good. Hope he gets the job.
SNL could really use someone like him
i think he was shit. he'll get nowhere
Fruits I'll bet you 15,000 bitcoins that you're wrong

I didn't see the number we text to vote ...
Harry's head shaking was killing me😅😅

Wait 40 years -- you just got a peek at your future.
I am a Cubs fan since birth, and had to watch those demented broadcasts since 1983.
Imagine Ferrell's courage: this was an audition. He wasn't yet 'Will Ferrell'. Nobody knew who the hell he was.
Tiadiad
Y'know, T, I'm sitting here trying to decipher your reply, but I'm 64 years old and used to syntax and, like, grammar. But I think I got the gist.
No, T, you read me wrong. See, being nearly 65, I was merely saying from experience that this is what age can do to a person. The toxic nature of the internet is a new and foreign country to me. I would never wish Parkinson's on anyone, so my advice still stands: think twice before you tell some stranger to die and that no one will miss them. Maybe you've misread the situation, as you did here.
And Harry didn't have Parkinson's -- he just drank. A lot.
Tiadiad
No problem, T. Turns out you're a decent fellow yourself. Take care of yourself -- you're an increasingly rare breed.
Have a good weekend.

So pure. No laugh track, no audience telling you how to react, when to laugh & how hard. Just one man offering up his idea of funny. I love the absurdist heart of Will Ferrell's work.
Lies again? Secret Admirer USD SGD
Damn. Will Ferrell had balls of steel. Interacting with his own pre-recorded parts. If he flubbed a part or forgot a line, the whole thing would’ve fallen apart. You can even hear the nervous dry mouth.
Amazing to watch an actual 8 minutes that drastically altered a man's fortune
An snl audition must be terrifying for a comedian, you’ve got to sell yourself and your comedy to basically an audience of no one.
Just getting some laughs out of the crew must have been such a relief to him during his performance.
Lies again? Serie A Leader Young Boss
Casuals thinking thats something special, lololol
He auditioned with get off the shed! Lol
He was baller before he even got the job. God-DAMN!
And Harry! That's gotta be a record having two auditions become actual sketches
@@lucp.6583 The cat toy bit became a sketch too! Look up Delco Cat Toys.
Luc P. I was just thinking that how many classic sketches came from auditions
@@lucp.6583 czcams.com/video/LrfDXbw6gQI/video.html
If you have ever owned a cat, you know that was spot on. Cats are weird.
HOT TAKE
I'm gonna MEOW the fuck outta ya.
Luxury Brown oh man you got me there ouch
q7winq7 Sounds kinky.
Theo, if that's you and your bf in your profile pic, totes adorbs.
If it's just a friend; that's cool too, man.
Which one is you?
Theo McClain cats are hilarious! Will does the best impression ever.
One day, they’ll release Kate Mckinnon’s audition tape, and we’ll hear a very audible laugh in the background shushed away-and we’d comment “LMAO that would be Bill Hader”😂
It’s crazy to think that all of our senses of humor hung on this audition. If he didn’t get the job, we would all be different people. Thank you Will Ferrell!
that comment was as
funny and concise as your complete inaccurate comprehension of the massive Mariana’s Trench depth of comedic talent when Will became popular
@@slanjbo Oh no, you pulled out your big boy words to generate the most incoherent comment ever.
Lol. Nope. I would not have been a different person.
Well that's not true. I'm influenced by way more people than Will Ferrell.
@@jg1007 good for you
The whole “get off the shed” sketch is a true classic
How calm he is especially after the get off the shed skit freaking kills me! Lol
His white suburban way of speaking is so spot on lol
this is something i think only true americans can understand, where we will just stop whatever the fuck were doing, and shout at the top of our longs at the kids, then go back like it never happened, lolz. its something that is so real, yet definitely makes him one of the greatest american comedians of all time. i havent seen many do a scene quite like that, and it feels original.
Very Nuclear Family
He was born and raised in Irvine, California. Irvine is literally the epitome of white suburb.
"My heart is black, and I hate you, sweet Jesus!"
I'm dying!
8 minutes that changed his life completely, and forever.
So I’ll be the next Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell! Is that how i should approach my acting career?
@@hal8226 I don't know. Do you want to be a comedian?
Cataldo Leone Well Id love to i feel like i have a similar bright spontaneous crazy character who can be serious
@@hal8226 you need to work. get a concrete idea of what you really want to do - write material, find/join people, shoot your ideas or perform them, and gather a solid portfolio of your work for starters. at this point, you'll know way more than me
@@WeedSmoker69 Hey man, I really appreciate the input! I believe i have a passion for it, like you said I need a foundation. Thank you tho brotha much love!
Literally as I watched the last cat bit, laughed and looked at my cat, she randomly attacked one of her toys in the manner Will was parodying. Perfect!
Purrrrrfect
I don't think that part got the recognition it deserved. I was playing with my cats as I was watching this and was dying! His sketch was so spot on! Truly brilliant.
It’s so intimidating to think the possible cast members have to do their auditions in front of just the crew, no audience, nothing, the fact he got laughs from people that are probably pretty hardened to comedy says so much.
And some applause!!
he knew from early on that the way he yells is one of the funniest things about him
This was really cool to see. It's nice to see that even a famous actor like Will Ferrell has had humble beginnings.
"Get off the Shed" and "Get on the Bag" are two of my favorite SNL sketches ever. Had no idea they were original inventions by Will! Amazing! Idc what anyone says, he makes me laugh. 😂
Same
Dude...he is a comedy genius. Makes everyone laugh.
Hes a comedy legend so.. people generally say good thinks lol.. your not in a niche community lol
Can't forget "more cowbell." Don't recall who originated the skit but Will stole the show with that one. "More cowbell" still lives on in pop culture.
And this man would go on to be perhaps arguable Top 5 all time SNL cast members! Love Will
Definitely top 5, arguably #1
Not even close. Not even in the top 50.
@@Winston_J._Chuckledick_III_Esq name your top 50 than
Now I wanna see everyone's audition tapes
@enzombie you can see them, for the the 40th anniversary they made a sort of compilation of audition tapes of people who got the parts and some even who didn't
Kristen wigg’s please
Look up Phil Hartmans. Hands down the best one ever
Let's see Paul Allen's audition tape.
@@mcsuibhne005 indeed
I love the get off the shed sketch. I'm glad they used that on the show.
I hope they will do a skit in modern times- Ie: get ooff those iphones!!!!
@@lydialaird3979 no that would just ruin it.
They, meaning him. As they write their own sketches
I think he got it based off the cat impression alone lol
That took a lot of guts to do a skit like that.
you gotta be joking. it was the BBQ get off the shed bit that got the laughs in the room!
Jerry Seinfeld tells Ferrell in Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee that when he saw the cat bit, he said to himself, 'This guy just made himself a star.'
ChaoticMatters haha yes. It had me cracking up
The willingness to roll around the floor.
"Oh, you got em with the cat bit." - Jerry Seinfeld
You know you're funny when SNL makes one of your auditions into a sketch.
*all
“Get that award winning potato salad away from me!” 😂😂😂
The 30 seconds of cat play and then walking off stage had me rolling
Will Ferrell is an SNL comedy legend and he's absolutely funny. I love him.
I’ve seen this many times over the years. As an actor and improviser. Knowing how it feels to audition for roles. Knowing the mental exercise and emotional effort that goes into just simply “trying” or “attempting” a creative vision that could go either way that early in the process.
The sheer amount of gumption to “trust” and “follow the funny” in what most would consider such a high level audition. This audition sequence is such a high risk high reward scenario. And Will does it brilliantly! I have always admired his “just go for it and have confidence and fun while doing it.” Approach to his insane talent with smart albeit obscure.., humor.
The cat bit at the end especially is one of those “if I set this up correctly with my other bits. Going from my ability to have serious chops and progressing towards more silly and uniquely abnormal. The cat thing will clench it.” On the flip “If I sell nothing ahead of time the cat bit will just turn everyone off and I’ll be remembered as the “”oh my god do you remember the cat guy?””
Yo. Kudos Will . You had the intuition and the balls to act upon said intuition to just go for realistic silliness, and it Obvs worked out in your circumstances. I admire your gumption and your talents. 🙏🏼
BEST IMPRESSION OF A CAT IVE EVER SEEN!!!!
Seriously! It was SPOT ON!
On this day history was made
Gremblo are you THE gremblo???
you realize everyday history is made
God this mans a comedic genius. I don’t think he gets enough respect a total living comedy legend!
How many times during this audition was Will thinking, "This is terrible, nobody is laughing, I'll be working at Best Buy for the rest of my life." ?
Odd take, he came across as confident and seemed to nail his lines. The creativity is definitely there and he didn't seem uncomfortable. No laughter is definitely harder.
That's what I was thinking while watching it.
GET OFF THE SHED! Brilliant. He's just amazing.
IVE ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE THE WHOLE THING. YAY. THE CAT PART OMG YES
Austrie Law
Who DOES that?!? A cat -- at an audition for SNL, where no one has ever heard of you? What balls!
Ohhh. It was a cat!
Kevin Fager
Ah, Kevin, I guess this is why Lorne Michaels is Lorne Michaels, and you're not. 😊
He just nails the the erratic cat behavior. I cry laughing every time I watch it!
Lorne: well, he does the whole shouting lunatic thing even better than Chris Farley so...
Will said he had one last bit ready: he brought a briefcase full of Monopoly money to give Lorne as a bribe. He ended up not doing the bit.
It amazes me how much of his brand of comedy was already there.
He had already been performing for a quite a while at the time of his audition
Don't care what the critics say, he's a genius. Loved all his films. Anyone else with this material and it would've fell flat. Much respect.
he knew he was getting hired when you can hear laughs during his audition
Watching that you realize that you were watching someone special! A legend!
Your photo! Hahahaha 😂
What a comedy gem! Thank you, Will Ferrell, for making our lives funnier! 💙🤙🏼
Ashley Barlowe Amen
🙌
he was getting AUDIBLE LAUGHS. in an SNL AUDITION. unheard of
EDIT: aight this has gone on long enough. I GET IT OTHER PEOPLE GOT LAUGHS TOO I WAS USING EXAGGERATION FOR COMEDIC EFFECT
Ehhhh, not THAT unheard of. Just pretty damn rare because they intentionally try to NEVER have ANY laughter during the auditions.
AND VANESSA BAYER
Bill Hader said he got kicked out of Kate McKinnon’s audition because he was laughing too hard.
Phil Hartman had them dying, Have you seen his?
john mulaney also had laughs
I love how the Shed bit actually became a pretty good SNL sketch!
Each one of those become classic sketches for Will. He has the mind, the temperament, the passion, the natural affectations, he’s like the Ted Williams of comedy. You could give him a grain of sand and he could have a 100,000 seat stadium roaring with laughter.
Hahah when he put on the wig and glasses I was dying laughing
That felt awkward with the barely laughing audience. I'd have no idea if I blew it or not with that muted reception.
Lorne tells everyone in the audition not to laugh, it’s a confidence thing.
That's on purpose. Lorne tells the panel of writers and cast members not to laugh (sometimes they do break and chuckle). He wants to see if the person auditioning has the confidence and commitment to really drive the bit home and not be shaken. As we can tell, Will goes deep into each bit and leans into the absurdity like yelling to get off the shed. Clearly he isn't going to back down by the reception or performance pressure which made him such a funny cast member.
Seriously. It felt super awkward without the feedback of laughter. I would've been certain I blew it.
Well, didn't you all laugh out loud!!!?
And they do that on purpose. To see how youd handle a bad situation.
Is it even humanly possible not to like this guy?!
I bet he din't imagine that he would be a huge star....
He didn't. He said to Jerry Seinfeld in his coffee/cars show that he was thinking "it's all over, isn't it?" to himself as he was rolling around the floor with cat toys
Best SNL audition ever has to be Phil Hartman’s, he was totally on top of his game and had well thought out jokes ready to air immediately. Too bad his cokehead wife murdered him, there was so much more left in his career.
13randon 13axter ehhh. Meh.
This is so awesome! I love that you guys uploaded this! Please do more auditions!
I’ve probably seen this more than 100 times in my life and I lose it at the cat sprawl every time.
7:28 METHOD ACTING there boy! You know Will studied his cat...
pausin.. lookin around ..than BACK to toy! LOL
I got to be in the SNL audience when Will Farrell was back, Sean William Scott was the host and Sum41 the musical guest....stellar time!
8 minutes of pure comedy acting gold, Will Ferrell is a genius!
The king of SNL. This audition is better than the actual show nowadays.
The confidence is amazing. It's like he already worked there... perhaps that's the key to success!
YES! Please post more auditions!
Legend has it that Brandon and Michael are still on the shed to this very day.
Will Ferrell is a national treasure.
that cat impression is eerily accurate lol
Put everything on hold,
I need my special time to
play with my cat toys. 🐈
The cat toy thing in my opinion is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
You can hear people laughing during a lot of the bits, Lorne asks them to leave every time because he has a strict no laughing policy on auditions.
I feel this performance ....... I feel it in my PLUUUUMMS.
I can imagine him doing a movie where he plays a swinger, a Southern racer, a man with a yellow hat, and a blue guy.
Emanuel Rice I can imagine him as an elf
Unreal that this was his audition. Probably the best get off the shed he can even do to be honest, it’s so perfect. I’ve seen the one from the show and it wasn’t nearly as good
“And the 2 and 0 pitch is in there to Dunsten. Strike on the corner”. Harry should have thrown that in there😂
That Ted Kennedy joke had me dying. No really it was hard climbing out of the passenger seat under 40 feet of water after hearing that joke.
28 people didn't get off the shed
Henry Robles I don’t get it
Henry Robles Update: 69
Henry Robles
I tell you, Henry -- I got off the fucking shed!
Sweet 2009 meme there fella.
Henry Robles update 197
Oh my god... the last cat toy part made me laugh so hard i cried....
That last bit was simple, brilliant.
How far he has come. True talent!!! Love this man.
I love Will!!😍💖 Brilliant comic. I am so glad I came upon this SNL audition. It was so, so, so entertaining!!😁 My husband told me to turn down my volume when he was yelling at the kids on the shed.🤣 Your the best Will!👏
That cat impersonation is so good !!!
yelling at the kids on the shed sounds like me hollering at certain kids in my classroom
That was amazing to see. Please add more of these!
Ted Kennedy impersonation? He's good.
Emmanuel Alejandro
Yeah, but that was the weakest material -- all stand-up clichés. Still, an unknown auditioning for a national institution. What balls!
I found the cat impression more impressive.
Mr Bag
I agree -- completely original and positively weird. The courage to audition with something so crazy and eccentric.
Mr Bag
"Hold my calls -- I have catnip to play with."
The stand-up cliches *was* the joke. It's not supposed to be a comedian doing really good stand-up with Kennedy's voice, it's supposed to be Ted Kennedy taking a shot at stand-up, and being a sucky hack at it.
I'm thinking that guy has a career in comedy.
That’s my dad
Get off the shed, Andrew!!!!!
Comedy gold! The Dutch Litchford cookout screaming skit probably won it over completely then!
Hard work.
Dedication.
Prepared dland foucused during the biggest moment of his life.
He deserves his love and fame.
Can we get more audition tapes on here please? Maybe the new guys from this season?
Why? The new people aren't funny at all
He's funny even without an audience laugh track. He's gonna go far. Probably even win some awards in the process.
Ted Kennedy was hysterical 😂😂😂
"Get off the shed" became "Get on the bag" lol.
tyler told me to watch this and honestly that cat bit was the funniest like
And the rest is history. Thanx Will for making me laugh over the years!
"i hate you sweet Jesus" 😹
Honestly, it's amazing he got the job.
Will is great!’
He showcased everything we got to know him for.. freakin genius
Thanks for sharing this. Watching this in my living room, I was laughing out loud. And also going OMG! I had that shocked look, especially with the Ted Kennedy bit. That takes guts. I do wonder why the people in his audience were so quiet. Did they really not get or like his humor? Or were they just supposed to analyze or something? Anyway. And I loved his cat impression at the end. I'm still chuckling and smiling. What a talented person.
Youre either born funny or you arent. Will was born funny.
