    I have heard many makeup artists say to never smile then apply blusher, because when you stop smiling the blush is to low down on your face and looks daft, cause as we all no our skin gets less firm and starts sagging.

      @cindyc9890 Před 7 lety +2

      I know, I've heard that too! And also not to apply the blush where your smiles lines are?? She did....oh well lol I don't know.

      Teresa Griffiths yes. I know I am late in viewing this. I too was horrified at some of her tips. Then I remembered that I have seen Bobbi Brown many times giving advice here and there and I remembered that I almost never agreed with her. I really like some of her products but I have never liked her techniques. I always examine her look as well and never like it. Now I will say she has aged well. Just not crazy about her end results on anyone these ladies in this video are probably the best I have seen her do.
      The whole apple of the cheek thing actually adds years to a woman's face. That's not just my opinion but it is a technique used in theater to make an actor look older.
      smh,

    This is the very first video I've seen that says that older women should put blush on the apples of the cheeks, not to mention sweeping downward. No matter how good you think it looks here, don't do it! Cheekbones only, starting not too close to the nose, and sweep upward only to lift the face.

      It's been said that you should put 2 fingers up to the corners of your mouth, that should be your starting point for blush ... About 2 fingers width onto cheek-BONES..!!🤗

    • @karencalifano6132
      @karencalifano6132 Před 7 lety +3

      Yes!!!! I had the same reaction as you. I don't sweep downwards! I put it on starting from the mid point of my eye on the cheekbones and sweep upwards towards my temples and it looks much nicer and gives my face a "lift"! A professional make up artist for MAC told me this when she did a make up application for me for a wedding I had a few years back. She applied blush in that way on my face and it looked amazing. Not sure about Bobbi Brown's "tips", lol.

    I was disappointed to hear Bobbi Brown take a generic approach to applying eyeliner. I think taking into account the shape of the eye is extremely important and has made all the difference for me. One size does not fit all :-(

    Hearing you all about the 'Black mascara' view! Perhaps Bobbi Brown doesn't sell a 'Black/Brown' mascara, so that's why it's not endorsed here? Just a thought. I haven't shopped for it, but I think the natural look of Black/Brown is a great option to straight hard, Black.

    "Never met a woman with wrinkles on her cheeks" says Ms Brown. Uh hi I'm Kim. And I have wrinkles on my cheeks! Love and adore Ms Brown and her line was the first high end line I ever tried back in the late 90's. However I def met many women with wrinkles on her cheeks. I'm just over. 40 and have them sadly. And blush esp powder blush just loves those cracks and crevices to highlight! :)

      U know that is so true about smile lines etc going down the cheeks! I'm sure many people regardless of age -as u noted having them always - have them so that's an excellent point! Anything nowadays I put on my face is akin to a Vegas flashing sign pointing to every line wrinkle and pore :)

    I don't agree with the mascara tip. I love black-brown mascara, and I believe it goes well with my hair and eyebrow color. That is why even experts are opinions only. Thankfully, there are a lot of opinions out there to take note of.

    • @Historian212
      @Historian212 Před 8 lety +8

      I agree. Also, black is too harsh as we age and our skin tones change. I tried colored mascara recently, dark enough to be subtle but definitely not black or brown (mine is teal). It doesn't look bright, it's dark but really adds something extra, even if nobody really notices the different tone.

    • @wdbreezy
      @wdbreezy Před 8 lety +3

      +Historian212 I agree ! Navy blue tight lining brightens my eyes....black is harsh and makes my small eyes look smaller. Same with lining my entire upper lid as Bobbie recommends. Lining the outer half, for me, looks so much better. To each his own !

      I have blue eyes and wear blue eyeliner and blue mascara and I look so much younger than with black. Black makes my eyes look tired. with blue people always stop me and compliment my eyes.

    • @karencalifano6132
      @karencalifano6132 Před 7 lety +3

      Agreed. I have medium brown eyes, light hair and fair skin and I use dark brown mascara and sometimes dark brown liner. At my age the brown looks much softer and natural. The black is too harsh for fair skin as we age. I've tried it with black mascara and liner and it looks very harsh on me. When I see some fair skinned, older women with black eyeliner and/or mascara it just looks harsh and brings out all the lines and such around the eyes, even with a good concealer.

    • @karencalifano6132
      @karencalifano6132 Před 7 lety +5

      No, it makes your eyes appear smaller! Again, a make up artist from MAC taught me alot about how to apply make up to make my face appear younger and fresher a few years back when I had it done for a wedding. She was awesome and really knew how to make us all look fantastic, and she gave us "older gals" tons of tips and they sure do work.

      So that was one makeup artist's opinion and this is another's. It also depends on your eye shape and size. My eyes are very large so it's different for me. It's best for each woman to try it themselves and experiment but as another poster said, if you apply it on the lower lid, it's almost always recommended to apply it softly and blend. No harsh lines.

After 2 years of searching, knowing many corporation just not hiring I dealt with four more loved ones (friends) and My dear Uncle who I adored. I snapped several months later after my dog was diagnosed with incurable disease. I gave my all for my sweet sweet canine love. I spent amazing time with her to the point I felt she was my canine soul. The blues were becoming further to deepest blues. One day, she ( canine love) would not come to me nor really not looking at me. My dog was so weak & I believed including her Vet agreed. That the decision was done. The Vet lean with arms out & saying you did a wonderful care for her & you made the best decision. That was first meaningful hugs I had in all of 4 years. Why am I going this far into this past. When I keep telling myself I have no bussiness in the past other than what was life lessons learned. Now I am still feel failed fallen & of no use anyone other than a burden.

      Of course you want color-she didn't say no color-just something more subtle than red. I think red is ok if you still have nice full lips, very white teeth and not too many vertical lines above the lips but not a lot of women over 50 can claim that anymore-which is ok! We look so much better today then 30, 40 50 yrs ago.

      bb cream or a tinted moisturizer that has an SPF of 30 can be used all over the place instead of foundation.. that along with concealer mascara and a good quality lipstick takes maybe 5 minutes and will brighten your whole face and can give you a very nice natural look... you can also if you want totake a couple extra minutes, set the look with a tadbit of powdered foundation or and/or setting spray... thats all I ever do except once n a while I may add eyeliner to this look and a bit of bronzer to my temples and cheeks.. doing my makeup this way takes me less than ten minutes and i never lookunatural no matter how bright the lighting is.

I used to pour liquid foundation into my fingers and rub it on all over to create a mask! Those days are over. lol For eyeliner I just use the darkest shade in my eyeshadow palette I never use heavy black pigment but then I'm blond/blue eyes so for me its just too much. I definitely like natural I don't like to look likes it obvious I even have makeup on but then being older you don't want to look tired and washed out either, its a difficult balance.

    Bobbi Brown has "interesting" makeup views. I have her book and in it she discourages red lipstick sometimes (this was over ten years ago, and last year she had a campaign with Kate Upton in red lipstick, sooooo I guess her opinions sway with the time...). So I take any tips of hers with a grain of salt. Everything in her line is neutral neutral neutral; bit boring for my taste. She does have quality products though.

    • @SlimKeith11
      @SlimKeith11 Před 7 lety

      I don't think anybody really pays attention-it's bizarre, especially if you're commenting -she's saying red lips over a certain age aren't as flattering. People's lips often thin as they age, vertical lines appear over the lips and red draws attention and the dark color makes the lips appear even smaller. She's suggesting something more subtle. Start looking at women over 50 who wear bright lipstick and you'll see...it looks tacky and unflattering.

    I don't agree with ANY of this except for the blush. There is absolutely nothing wrong with brown mascara, if you do not look good in black mascara, it WILL make you look older! Also, red lips make you look youthful. I've never liked her makeup and maybe that's because her advice is too cookie cutter. 👎 Thumbs down on this one. 👎

      @SlimKeith11 Před 7 lety

      If you're older and still have nice full sized lips and white teeth , red lipstick might still look good although it draws attention to the vertical lines above the lips. If you have smaller lips, it's not a good look. Same with bright pink. Subtle is better. But to each his own. Very honest friends help.

      Jackie Turner Yes, everyone! Bobbi Brown has built her empire on questionable myths, self centered comments (huh) & lies about shades of mascara! Speaking of color, ”poor taste in that comment Miss ”I thought Bobbi Brown was black.” I’d love to take that up w/ you in a different forum. Plus you proved a large point being prance around. If your 40 & up, try to stay somewhat informed about beauty up-keep & aren’t afraid to dismiss an experts opinion. Example: I wear dun du du dunnnnn: Brown mascara & will continue to. At least Bobbi Brown is not herself, plumped up with botox & fillers. Maybe the models, but unlike our ”You Tube guru’s.” She is keeping it real. Since the beginning of time the great blush debate has been the leader in make-up debate. Smile, apples, downward, shimmer, brush, blah, blah, blah. Thank you for shifting it to brown vs. black mascara. Whatever? The fact is, your snarky, anger related attitude is only emphasizing those sad frown lines & “WTF” wrinkles. I’m sure she has advice on skin care but, what does she know anyway. #youdonthavetoagree #youdontevenneedtocare #googlethegenious #prayersforflorida #flyawaysweetangels.

      You don't want the bottom to harsh, which really does age you.

      Too harsh I meant... meaning no black... try a soft brown or other color.

    Thinning eyebrows at outer half is a symptom of a thyroid condition.
    Don't ignore signs your body gives you!

      I have wiry salt and pepper eyebrows and they are a bitch to keep under control. Had them dyed once and that looked even worse. Cutting the long hairs doesn't work either. Blah.

    The reason your eyebrows have thinned out is from years of tweezing and now they do not grow back. I didn't tweeze and have full eyebrows

    • @misslilygish
      @misslilygish Před 8 lety +2

      Sometimes it's because of low thyroid. If it's just the outer half, that might be the reason.

      I have never tweezed and mine have thinned. My mother and grandmother, & many of my friends are the same way. It's not always from tweezing.

    No, no and hell no. Blusher should not be placed there! Just looks silly. And sorry to say, Bobbi Brown has the worst eyebrow pencils in the world. They break, break and break, and that way become more expensive than just buying one from Tom Ford. I loved one of her eye brow pencil colors and therefore continued to buy 5 of them. Well, that's a closed chapter.

    I think Katie Couric looks kinda old, tired and haggard. I know though she's had a rough several years since her husband was diagnosed and passed and then her sister as well. It really aged her. Not so many tips here actually.
