That Josh Homme rhythm tone is spot on. Glad you didn't add too much gain which is a common mistake when people try pull Qotsa off. Thank you so much for this guys!!!!
I actually thought it was too much gain. If you watch the video with Troy, he says that "know one knows" is actually clean tone. They put tons of gain on that.
@@ericward6919 exactly. The harmonics at 14:07 are a dead giveaway. They're much more cleaner on the record, even live across the years.
Yeah qotsa always choose volume over gain, same as Sabbath, zepplin and so many other rock legends
@@ericward6919As I understand the No One Knows tone is straight up just treble boosted clean.
That dude from Livinroom Gear Demos nailed it in his room with a handful of pedals, a Gibson ES335 and a toneking.
Good shout with going with the 335 and not a Gretsch
Update: never mind
It’s not even a 335, can’t believe they’d get that wrong, it doesn’t take much to memorise the difference between 335s, 345s and 355s
Wow Bea looks great, slimmed down very well. Congratulations
Sounds like Kyuss !
Fuck yeah! I wanna see some bass cabinets exploding that room and the head of those two bastards.
Like Them Crooked Vultures then
More like The Desert Sessions
SUNN!
Whos gonna tell him
These are not P90s on Jazzmasters. They're just Jazzmaster single coils.
Correct
I didn't know that! :O You learn something new everyday. That's good though, because Mr. Leeuwen actually plays with singlecoils more than P90's anyway.
Believe p90s are single coil, just a different type of single coil
Eran Montiel Correct
Semantics.
They're essentially p90s
Radiohead BY Busting!!!
Luke 452 yes and yes
Also yes.
MORE YES
Radiohead by getting depressed.
Great thing about being Aussie, every other guitar store stocks Maton Guitars
I'm not fussy. I'll take an MS500. Cheers from Canada.
Ayyy Mastodon
@@keepyoureyespeeled exactly. Mastodon rocks!
Damn. I’d love a sounds like Fugazi.
That would be super easy too. Both guitarists really only played the one guitar and amp.
Yep, any of those seminal straight-edge/core/post-punk bands from that period would be fun. Personally, I'd choose Husker Du/Bob Mould. But Fugazi would be cool (according to Alex Stewart it's very simple).
All I know about Mould is that he used SS amps, with a tube amp (Fender Twin, I think) added to his live rig later in his career. MXR Distortion+, Flying V/Strat.
That's pretty simple. He records using Line6 modelling!
Sg and a Ric. Prolly straight in to Marshalls half stacks.
Ian plugged into the amp but Guy used an MXR distortion plus
SG + JCM800 :D
Sounds like “king gizzard and the lizard wizard”
Lol what album heck what song
I don't think they'd do that. They'd have to bring absolutely everything from the store to the video room
@@mrpunkkiller7153 actually their pedals actually very simple and consistent like jhs superbolt, dd-3, some analog delays, and fuzzes. given that they already have 3 guitarists and probably tweaking some knobs to get the specific sounds
would be nice to see them try and do one tone from each album
13:39 - nailed it! Thank you Gents. Sounds like *Kyuss* ? I pray someday they'll groove together again while I'm alive to hear it. Homme, Garcia, Oliveri, and Bjork -- with Chris Goss producing again. Blues for the Red Sun was perfect in every way possible. Cheers!
chances are low. Homme and Oliveri are supposedly still friends but professionally i doubt they’ll ever be seen together again due to the accusations
FINALLY YES!!! Wanted this episode for so long :D :D :D
Comments on these videos generally completely ignored the video and just demand what they want to see next.
I think you really nailed this one. Was yelling Dusenburg at my monitor the whole time you were mucking about with the 335. Was dead happy when you switched!
Jazzmasters have been in production for like 60+ years. How do people still not understand that their pickups are NOT P90S! There is literally nothing similar about them. From construction to tone, they could not be more different, other than the fact that they're both single coils.
jakelus71 Preach!
Jacob Moffatt I love these andertons guys but none of them actually know very much about gear haha. They know all the buzzwords but their knowledge is extremely surface-level - even the supposed "experts" like chappers, Lee, and Pete. But I guess the videos are more about entertainment than education anyway haha
jakelus71 He says "p90 kinda style pickups here." Right around the 4:22 mark
Greg Weber they're not p90 style. Not even kinda.
They are both single coils so they aren't completely dissimilar.
Glad this series is back! Even if the mark isn't always hit (in my opinion), it's extremely entertaining to see Rabea and Matt's approach on classic tones. I really don't blame them for not always getting close. We have to remember they're going after tones that are mixed and produced, eq'd, compressed, etc. Great effort from these two.
The first one was awesone, but i've been still been waiting for this for 3 years now! As always, you've yet to disappoint!
You absolutely nailed it lads. The PDF-2 with the Sugar Drive sound spot on. Extra points for that Jazzmaster giving me a toneboner.
Nathan Miles Jazzmasters are very sexy. That Duesy Rabea was playing wasn’t bad either.
Wow that Tone Recap really shows how much progress Rabea has made with his fitness 🤘🏼
That sounded amazing. Really nailed it, and on its own just sounded great. Never would have picked all those items in the rig together, but it really growled and sounded fantastic. I really loved the sound.
Hell yeah I've been waiting for another by busting for ages, love this series
You need to change the name of the tone recap to "Tonal Recall!"
Blue good one It shall be done!
I HAVE NEVER CLICKED OUT OF PORN SO FAST
Sean O'Brien dafq?
It's a *kind* of porn.
Kept stroking though, right?
I had never clicked out of a five year old
no joke same
FINALLY! This is freakin' cool. Thanks for the awesome episode and doing a great job sounding the Queens!
Guys, I asked for this a few weeks ago and it amazed me that you’ve done it, and you’ve done an incredible job! Keep up the good work 👍
Sound like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, great band😊
NOOO!! Just found this and I have to leave for work in 10 minutes!
Bea, the recap really highlights your awesome weight loss. Good Job Sir!!
This was very cool. Thank you guys. Knocked it out of the park on the sound. Favorite episode thus far.
absolutely nailed it guys! i had the browser minimised at 8:39 and i honestly thought i was hearing audio from the album, but the drums never kicked in...10/10
Please do MUSE by busting! Since you have no budget you can go crazy on pedals to achieve that crazy muse sound!
Africaaa I’ve been asking for this since the first BY busting!!!
Me too man! Been writing comments on the last couple of sound like!
Yessss
Yeah but muse suck
Hans Von Witzland they still suck tho
“My god is the sun” sounded perfect.
This by far is my favorite format for Sounds Like so far. I like seeing you guys search for the right gear, and this video had that (the other recent videos strated to cut a lot of that part to my dismay). On top that, the song demos (which there were plenty in this vid, which I liked a lot), and the gear explanations seemed a lot more streamlined and it was just very consistantly paced and I didn't get bored at all throughout the entire video.
This is just my opinion, I still love this series but you guys hit it right on the ball with this video format an I hope this is the norm from now on.
Cheers
Been asking for this for years and its finally happened, you guys nailed well done boys
8:35 My god is the sun is so spot on
18:41 Oh no! the song title is "You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire"
Spot on tone. That Song For The Deaf clip was nearly identical to the recording on the actual record. Great job dudes seriously.
This is soooo good at sounding like Josh's various tones with only one rig. Great video
Really cool, Check out Eric Valentines vid (Engineer and Producer for Queens), he gives a walk through in his studio on how he got the guitar tones.
It’s really cool!!!!
Bro say P90s one more time. Lol
P90s
William Allison We finna fight b.
I think you guys really nailed their live sound from today as well as the studio tones too.
A welcome back fellas . Love the sounds likes!!!
Great one! Matt’s beard got really big :D Blur, or Radiohead by busting next?
Graham Coxon used to have a signature fender tele but it's discontinued so i reckon squier vintage modified tele
for amps he uses marshalls but i reckon either vox or a marshall
pedals i know he uses a lot of fuzz including the coffee and tv solo and maybe some tremolo but i don't really know
i think that should do it
Deffo needed an octave fuzz for the little sister lead but man that rig sounded good! Song for the dead was on point imo 👌🏻
You both have been missed really happy to see you back, and enjoyed this video
You guys nailed it this time. Perfect!
Sounds like Robby Krieger//The doors
Step one: Buy SG
Step two: Play terribly
@Lord Brain Oh, you must not have heard him play then.
could you guys do a sounds like peter green/fleetwood mac (early) please! Would love to see how you guys do it
and maybe after peter they could do Lindsey Buckingham for the later Fleetwood
Yes! I feel like I’ve finally gotten a long awaited fix! A hundred thousand thanks!!!!
This way waaay more accurate than the original video. Also you played much more interesting riffs. Good job guys!
Can we get a sound like alter bridge by busting, and do Myles Kennedy this time around. You have yet to use a high end PRS on by busting
Should probably not shorten the name to just 'by busting'
Please
PRS split into a Mesa Boogie Mark V and a Diezel Herbert. There ya go.
Good call, bust it up with Alter Bridge!
Oisin McPhillips yes, fantastic idea
That tone kicks you harder in the face than Josh Homme.
I was in the bus and I laughed so hard from your comment
Great video, guys!
Wow. Nailed it. If I closed my eyes, felt like I was listening to the albums at times.
Please do a Sound Like Karnivool! Would love to see Bea playing some riffs from Themata
Dean Deleo Dean Deleo Dean Deleo Dean Deleo Dean Deleo Dean Deleo Dean Deleo
These were always so great
Nice job as always guys!!
sound like sleep without and by busting the bank
mattyhastie Les Paul + as many Orange amps as possible
Rabea you are looking really good in this shape. Very glad that you lose some weight!
Just bring back the full beard! Looked great on you.
Holy.... my god is the sun sounded so perfect! Great job guys
I’ve waited so long for this 🤟🤟
Please do Stevie Ray vaughan by busting the bank. I would also love to here you two play som funk so.... Vulfpeck?
Signature Fender Stratocaster and if it's out of stock they can get the one they used for John Frusciante By busting
Marshall JTM Head and Cab
Ibanez Tube Screamer
Vox Wah pedal
and that should be it
Cory Wong would be so simple. Squier Strat - I think I’ve seen Jack use an affinity so that’s totally within budget, Fender deluxe reverb and a compressor. Put that thang in fourth position and funk away. Get Nathan or Lee from the bass show to guest star for Joe Dart while they’re at it.
Zonda599Major Pretty much yea. I wonder though what compressor will do the job. I know Cory uses a comressor in to the amp but when it comes to the vulfcompressor on the track im not shure how they could achieve that sound. I guess they would have to go for live rigs.
gurraplurr yeah I know he uses a Wampler Ego compressor, but they could get anything with a blend knob tbh. And I think they mainly use vulf compressor on stuff like drums and keys - the guitar stuff doesn’t seem to have as much of that vinyl-type squishiness.
Zonda599Major that sound right. I would love to see rabea play Corys fill in Cory wong.
Most of Josh Hommes best work comes from an Ovation GP Ultra. And Troy Van Leeuwen uses Teles and Les Pauls in addition to his Sig but great job as always guys!
Wow amazing job with this one guys!
Absolutely spot on with this one
Sound like Megadeth
or Children of Bodom. That would be sick!
Children of Bodom is quite simple, there is also a nice Rig Rundown video where Alexi explains his Sound
Please do sounds like gojira
welcome back guys. missed ya.
I’ve waited my whole life for this moment
Sounds like Extreme, Steve Vai, Guthrie, toto (Steve Lukather) any of those...
sound like is back everybody!
now let's get a sound like for Eric Johnson
Michael Schenker
Avenged Sevenfold
Tame Impala
and maybe the one and only Robert Cray
William Allison *cough cough* tame impala
Been a life waiting for this
Holy shit. That was awesome, sounds very close to them. Nice one guys, keep it up !
Now can you re-do the without busting the bank version with the Catalinbread SFT and an Epiphone Dot??
I knew _you'd_ show up here.
Carlo Von Sexron , it gets real close with the newer version of the SFT, too. Just get an amp with the right voicing, plus an EQ pedal, and voila.
I kept on thinking on the without busting the bank the exact same thing
And maybe they can even play the songs correctly too
Was it necessary to split the mics one in each ear?
I truly hope this was done in error, as an editor myself I cant see why the hell anyone would think that its a good thing to do. Its terrible on headphones!
Maybe a 65:35 split would have been better instead of 1:0
Agreed, whilst the clarity is really good, it’s just annoying after a time
Queens of Stone Age do hard panning a lot on both guitars in the studio
but having it that way for the talking bits makes it feel like they're each talking into one of my ears only 3 cm away
Missed you guys! Bust the bank!
Welcome Back!!
Sounds like cage the elephant pleaseee
Sound like Eddie Van Halen by busking the bank
Honestly still shocked they haven't done one on any level. I mean, maybe because they didn't want humbucker + dsl40c again, but still.
Sound like a busker by Eddie Van Halening the bank.
That is actually a great idea... go out and busk doing sounds like.
I second the shout for sounding like Ed!!!
Definitely go busking the bank as Eddie Van Halens.
Nailed it, nice one
The Jazzmaster straight into that Morgan sounds excellent -- with the Green Rhino -- wow.
so here's what i think
My god is the sun - really close on both guitarist's parts so i'm giving it a 10/10
Regular John - Josh's fuzz was a bit more rounder but troy's part sounded fairly close so this is 9/10
No one knows - you nailed their most popular song! 11/10
A song for the dead - it sounds much more on fleek than the without busting for both parts, i'll give this 10/10
Little Sister - Josh's part was fine but the synthy lead line could've used work so 8/10
You think i ain't worth a dollar but i'm worth a millionaire - was fairly close but not exact so 9/10
personally you should've done the no one knows' guitar solo but that's just me
and if you do more BY bustings please revist:
Metallica
Nirvana
Rush
U2
The Who
Deftones
The Smiths
Eric Clapton
Randy Rhoads
Alterbridge
i second Rush, The Who, The Smiths and Eric Clapton cos those were pretty lame by my standards
at least get the titles right m8
Stone Temple Pilots
Really nice guys❤
When you started talking about pedals I have immediately thought: why not a PDF? And well... there it comes. Nice one!
QOTSA use way less gain than people think.
I'd LOVE to see Megadeth without and by busting the bank, as well as Metallica by busting. Also, A7x please?????
don't let this show die! it's great
Yes lads and love the beard Matt great vid
KYUSS!!!!!! KKKKKKYYYYYYUUUUUUSSSSSSS!!!!!!
Sound like Billy Talent please! :(
Yes!! Josh Homme have one of the most signature guitar sound nowadays, along with Matt Bellamy, Jack White and others...
You guys should SERIOUSLY consider doing a video on Kyuss like seriously it would just be an amazing pleasure for fans of the earlier desert age music
Pls do periphery and koRn
Megadeth
ive been asking for this since they did the metallica one.
Man I hate the Capitals
Yes, this is asked like forever ... damn them ...
Hahaha 3:50 mark was the best nonchalant subconscious Chapman Guitars advert ever! Well chuffed with that!
Awesome one, love that the sounds are actually crunchy and not fuzzy! Can I ask for maybe some Porcupine Tree or Steve Wilson in general?
YEAH !!!! Now... please... Sound like EVH !!!
Sweetwater already did it
The Driver but they failed
Just sayin. Everyone will fail except EVH himself. Andertons won't do any better
RISE AGAINST
That D guitar is sooooo beautiful. Man, literaly.
great job!
