When your bard in D&D finally reaches level 20
best comment 2019 :)
🤣awesome!!
My bard is practicing really hard 😥
*Throws gold coins*
Amazingly i just sent this link to my friends and told them that this would be my next bard character before i scrolled down to find this...
This is how our ancestors rocked out hundreds of years ago.
A hurdy gurdy and a barrel of ale, what more you need?
Dude, if you and I lived back then and wandered by a minstrel in town playing that you know we'd each grab a saucy wench and dance like hell.
Still better then justin bieber
Chubzdoomer There wasn't anything called "rock" back then, they had different personalities and different tastes of music, that's part of the reason of why i love the medieval era.
I'm not sure about the veracity of this but, i heard a medieval recreationist say that "hurdy gurdy" is supposed to mean "rock your bottom", therefore Chubzdoomer's comment wouldn't actually be far from the truth
It sounds like a mix of pirate themed violin playing backwards and a bee flying too close to a microphone.
u wot m8 Couldn't describe it better
can't be unheard
u wot m8
As to the Pirate Theme, look up the opening to the Black Sails television series, they have a great opening and use the hurdy gurdy there as well. As for the "bee" sound, that's called a drone.
+u wot m8 Sounds like music from India, at least to me.
White Tiger Gaming
A little....but there's a lot of irish there.
Sorrowdusk Gaelic? Hmm.
Can you imagine the guy who came up with the idea of the hurdy gurdy trying to explain it to his mates
Yes, and after his mates hearing it is what started rum induced alcoholism.
"So basically, I want to take a violin, make it hollow, attach an accordion and make it sound like a bee."
So it's like an accordian?
NO MAN it's got, like, 7 strings on it.
So it's like a violin then?
NO, none of that bow bullshit. This has got a fucked up wheel spinning in it and you spin it with a crank on the bottom.
You're drunk. No such instrument could be built.
Yes I am. And I built it yesterday.
I believe his brother invented the bagpipes. It works though doesn't it?
"Hold my beer, I have a genius idea. You know how I tried to play the violin? Well, what if I take that broken wheel from the wagon outside, and rub it across some strings. Maybe I'll hit the string with some wooden blocks. Yeah, that's go good. I'll put it in the church so we don't have to hear my shrew of a wife."
"Tobias, you're drunk. You can't just put a wheel on some strings. I'll sound terrible, and the church services are far too long already."
"I can't? I already did it."
I have never heard a more adept player, technically and dynamically. This is marvelous.
I just read this instrument is over a thousand years old. They had alot of time on their hands and also a sick sense of humor !
this man is way past a master, he is absolutely amazing!
he's a grandmaster
Someone please free that bee.
LOL! You're right!
that is, my dears, comedy.
when moses was in egypt land, let my bee-ple go
that comment made my day, hahaha
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?!?!? its fine only gurdiests will get it =/
The note bending around 4 minutes in is amazing. Beautiful playing.
Incredible instrument and even more incredible musician. Outstanding example of the Hurdy Gurdy. Thanks for sharing.🙏
This is such a cool instrument.
yel...you got it...
This seems like a violin, bagpipes, and an eggbeater had a crazy night together,
ShierFoRsAkEn1 The Theramin officiated at their triple wedding.
come on sir....turn your modern ears off....and just listen
@@mauricedear7275 I can't speak for the previous posters, but for me that combination is a GOOD thing!
Liam Dunn lololol
More like a Wheel, a Violin, and a Piano Rolled into one. And then someone trapped a Bee inside of it O_O
Wow. In a very very good way. That is music!!! No sarcasm. Pure appreciation of your technique on that instrument!
WoW!! This is one of those moments where....what i am hearing and watching amazes and thrills me so much that i start laughing out loud ....this is an awesome sound and instrument!! I once read about this instrument as a child in grandma's old encyclopedia, and they described it as having a rather drab limited sound.....what the hell were they talking about? This is the most amazing sound i ever heard !!! LOL
yes!!
...and some just dont get it.
what an amazing specirs we are....or..
.are not...
thrilled so much you start laughing? did you ride the short bus as a kid?
Its like theres 2 instruments all being played at once, its fantastic. Like a violin and bagpipes mixed together
Plus the clacking of the keys and the rythm of the trumpet strings, such a unique sound
A nice mix of folk songs. Was pleasantly surprised to hear the bulgarian "Dewojko mari hubawa" at 3:10. The original song is played by bagpipe and sounds pretty much alike.
He starts with a fast Bulgarian Chetvorno horo. Amazing to hear a fast irregular rhythm on a hurdy-gurdy!
@@JanWollring Honestly, the horo is harder to recognise. Medieval instruments have very rough and rich sound. The melodies then were different too. May be people didn't bathe every day, but had a lot of imagination:)
It just gets better and better, keep listening, and watch this guy's fingers. That's skill!
The best thing I've heard all day. Absolutely beautiful.
Around 3:10 the way he plays the hurdy-gurdy, it sounds like a duduk. Amazing versatility of sound.
I don't know what impressed me more, his amazing playing, or his trousers! 😂
It started with a very western ancient sound (dorian scale) and then he get straight to the eastern sound, love it.
I'd like to see this guy join King Crimson and see what could happen.
Would that make Prog better or worse?
Robert Kaye Oh my god, I would love to see that.
ShadowMKII Methinks he'd add much to its
overall timbre and '"rhythmosity."
Robert Kaye
Much. :)
Only gods can play in King Crimson.
I think my elbow would give out before I could finish a song. This Hurdy Gurdy is unbelievable - FLOYD
So, that's what a Hurdy Gurdy looks like!
true story
It's like a bagpipe, a violin and a kazoo all in one instrument!
Xnerdz Best description ever!
This guy is truly amazing! I could listen to his music all day. It would have taken years to get to the high standard of playing this instrument.
My wife just had one made for me, and I love the Hudy Gurdy! This guy is amazing, and so is my wife!
...at last a Real comment....you must be quite good by now..
l do hope you kept it up....enviouse from England...
Your wife is amazing it's true.
I know, right?!?! She was soooooo amazing
So share some of your playing. I'm all ears.
your wife was good. i wouldnt say amazing though
My brain can't even work that fast. lmao.
Sounds like a mix between bagpipes, a violin, a hard drive and a kazoo.
In a good way, I mean.
wow...this is amazing i gotta admit
l agree
Mind. Blown.
Thank you.
He apparently knows Bulgarian folk music awesome I definitely recognized the Rhodopy Song .I am amazed . Thank you it is great :-)
Starts off with Balkan music in 7/8.
Yes please, more please!
A masterful performance on a truly bizarre instrument. Thank you.
It's like drone organum or bagpipes with the continuous note
a sitar also does this.
Loved the droning with middle-eastern microtonal bends...gorgeous riffs.
Reminded me of "Taqasim on Violin" by the great Simon Shaheen.
Excellent playing, Sir !!!
The "Dog" control alone is amazing
This is beautiful.
I just discovered him, never heard such a musician... the technic is so astounding, to serve awsome song.
Hurdy gurdy master please come to Toronto I’m ur biggest fan 💕💘
Hurdy gurdy master is died
Wonderful! Not an easy instrument to play so masterfully. Simply entrancing!
Bravo, Maestro!
Ела в България за още!
a fantastic instrument! I love it!
Wow..........wonderful performance! Thanks
Listening to hurdy-gurdy soothes my tinnitus.
The hurdy gurdy is a good example of why pirates shouldn't be allowed to name instruments.
***** Whatever it is, it's perfect

unlike your mom
IrokoSalei ^^^^^^
Tate C Hurdy Gurdy means 'Shake your Bottom' in medieval slang. Nice, huh?
I don't know.... "Hurdy Gurdy" sounds more like it was named by the Swedish Chef.
tres fort !!
quelle sens du rhytme et des harmonies !!
merci !
This is so exciting. Glad to have seen it played by someone who is adept. I love Hurdy Gurdy's.
I can envision people sitting around a campfire eating magic mushrooms and grooving out to several hours of gurdy. The images conjured up in their heads would have been amazing.
Wow, truly a great performance!
i love you work man
Wonderful! I love it.
Absolutely Beautiful!!!!!!!
Howdy from Dallas Texas. For some reason in my mind I always thought a hurdy gurdy was some sort of box that had a c a n e sticking out of the bottom to stabilize and a crank and a little monkey attached on a leash to collect Penney's from children! I never realized it had a fretboard like a guitar. I was able to acquire Donovan l e i t c h e s autograph the author of the 1968 hit the Hurdy Gurdy Man. Howdy from Dallas Texas
I've never heard/seen hurdy gurdy played before. Amazing!
I m blown away. I want to play this
It's the most beautiful I've ever seen
Astonishing work.
Yep that's about what i imagined a hurdy gurdy master would look like
keith browand fuck. You
@@haraldisdead L M F A O
Awesome. What a master! I feel like I just went back in time...
What an amazing interpretation of Bulgarian folklore! Unreal
I have seen some cool things (not the kind of things that kids call cool) and that has just joined the list of cool things I have seen.
Very happy to have heard and seen that.
Very impressed with his skill.
Thank you for the video.
Awesome talent!!!
Wow! I love this!
When I first heard of the hurdy gurdy I thought it was related to the Swedish Chef - still glad I found out that it is an awesome instrument! =)
wow, just freaking wow! sharing this so hard
Wow.. Bulgarian music - "chetvorno horo" ! Well played... very interesting !
По света повече ценят нашия фолклор от колкото у нас...
Great sound!
Man! I love This Dude Big fan go mathias
Amazing technical level. And this is music... for some people. We can imagine how HE could play Music.
What an awesome instrument! I had no idea this thing existed.
Simply amazing. Nyckelharpa, Hurdy gurdy, and Theorbo: virtuoso drone strings.
exceptional playing.. bravo..
This is pretty amazing.
This is amazing! Such a weird/awesome sound!!!! Never heard of one of this until today! Like if Black Sails also brought you here.
Triggering ancestral memories.
And I don't believe in ancestral memories.
Mind and heart blown!
so basically a never ending jack in the box on LSD
+Rektangle Best comment, you didn't just get a chuckle, my sides were in orbit for a good half hour.
+Xanatrix Zadare Must not take much to make you laugh. I though it was too easy of a joke. Actually surprised that he went for it.
Kairos Raider
I try to be a merry person. It's mostly the LSD part; having done it myself, I understand perfectly.
+Xanatrix Zadare I'm just saying he could have been a little more clever in his wording lol
Like basically a never ending crack in the box?
Man, there are a lot of negative comments here!!! I don't think people really appreciate how hard it is to play the hurdy gurdy, let alone the fact that it is an extremely rare instrument!!! :D
Fantastico!!!
buenisimo, me gustan las pausas que te llaman la atención y un momento después continua.
amazing!!!
Love it.
So good
Had to buy the whole album
Not disappointed
That was so awesome it made my teeth hurt! So cool.
This is really cool.
fantastic
4:38 is sick!
"And with every purchase of our a hurdy gurd, we'll throw in a pair of plaid trousers, absolutely FREE!"
freakystyley4000 I thought he was wearing pajamas
And that's a great price!
I want those pants
Vraiment excellent !
as he IS the master of hurdy gurdy playing - give him the throne - he realy deserves it...
The Hurdy Gurdy is over a thousand years old. It is called zanfona in Gallician Portuguese. It figured prominently in the middle ages & was a main instrument of the Troubadours. It can be found all over Europe in folk traditions from Poland & Hungary to France & Spain. Check out videos on CZcams by German Diaz, Gregory Jolivet & Efren Lopez.
Българска ръченица !!! !:)) И " Девойко мари хубава " - българска народна песен от РОДОПИТЕ !!!!! :))) Greeting from BULGARIA !!:)
I've got to learn me one of these!
ONE PERSON ORCHESTRA from Medieval: BEAUTIUL PIECE OF ART.....
The Grump Bump is real
Sounds wonderfully mystical. The hurdy-gurdy is the cornerstone for much of Loreena Mckennitt's sound including The Mummers Dance.
Amazing
Good Lord what a genius
All kidding aside thanks for posting, great resource to get the kids up for school in the mornings.
Awesome
Isn't anyone who plays the hurdy gurdy now considered a 'master'? Really, who are they competing with?
No, cause it's hard as fuck to play
other hurdy gurdy players
There's actually quite a lot. Loibner is only one among many such as Neil Brook, Tobie Miller, Michalina Malisz, Vinogradov, etc, etc. There's a lot of music out there to enjoy.
- Hurdy Gurdy community on Reddit at /r/BuildaGurdy
Competition is ultimately what drives people to be better. To say that it's just for kids is to ignore the things that drive you to be better. There's no forest spirit that just "comes from within" only. Competition makes you innovate, and you learn from other people who innovate, and the cycle continues.
I could argue that what competition contributes to innovation, could be accessed without competition.
Being a master is irrelevant to competition. It is about the inherent ability of the art.
