You know... I've never once stopped to watch an excavator dig a hole from start to finish. It's mesmerizing af.
It looked a little like they were digging a grave in the beggining
Wow I can't believe all the negative comments I give you an a for effort at least your moving forward trying to protect your family ld be willing to bet half the trolls couldn't work a hand shovel if their lives depended on it!! Your a smart guy if there are flaws at least you have time to figure out and fix!!
Hi Keeping It Dutch
- I watched a video of a guy that had 12 people in his during a tornado. It was exactly like yours and it saved their lives. He did say in the video that the tornado was pulling at the door and it was all he could do to hold it shut by pulling on the handle. If it were me, I would have a iron rod stored in there to help hold the door shut. He also said it was really dark as they only had 1 flashlight. I think I would keep stuff stored in there so I wouldn't have to hunt for them when needed. Great video!!
I would install a stick-on led light switch (like the one Harbor Freight sells. I love those things!), and the battery operated Christmas lights.
Also, I have some 5-gallon buckets with padded seats. Great for a few bottles of water, a first-aid kit, and a couple of tools.
I would also keep a few tarps, a blanket, and a flannel shirt in there. .. That’s just me. 😊 .. Hope you enjoy it and it serves you well!
(And my husband says, “I’d paint Psalm 23 on the wall!”) 🥰
As long as it keeps the family safe that is all that matters. A must have in tornado alley!
My concern would be a tree or debris blocking that door when I needed to get out. I'd put an old cell phone in there and a good quality whistle like a Fox 50.
We have a similar underground shelter and we get great reception but if a tornado hits odds are towers will be out. We have emergency kit with futon, chairs, portable fans, the works. We have lighting but you never go in without alerting someone. We call several people there and away so if we get hit or shut in they know we are in it.
the lid opens out , you better put a jack and some anchor points and assortment of steel beam in there, so if anything lands on the door.
I'd want it at least 2ft deeper and with chairs ,lights, fully functionable, so when I get kicked out of the house I;d have a comfortable place to sleep
Yer man bunker. My wife told me to put some can goods in ours, so I have a Miller 12 pack in the corner!
I wouldn't want to sleep down there I'll be sleeping under ground soon enough when I'm dead it will remind me to much of that and I wouldn't be able to sleep down there.
I think so to!
6 feet of dirt on top of you will block nuclear fall out. That would be my goal, plus functional, air, water, food, electricity, hygeine, first aid.
honestly i would just want more space wouldntnt care abt all the other stuff
That's great, to think ahead. I saw on the news this guy in a wheelchair had him a shelter built for him above ground thinking he would never have to use it. That he would just use it for storage.
A week after it was done a storm came through and whipped out everything around his storm shelter. He was glade he had it built he was amazed it took him some years to save up to have the storm shelter built and just when it got done it came in handy.
SNOOP U 2 t
We are in the process of purchasing our shelter. Going with a different kind but seeing this helps ease my anxiety about spending that much money on a box in the ground. Thank you
For convenience I installed my bunkers in the crawl space of my home 20 years ago. I couldn't have a basement because of the possibility of flooding, however there's no restrictions on the ceiling height of a crawl space.
Really neat to see this process. Congrats on the shelter and way to be prepared!
+Fuller Farm hey thanks, We had a safe room at our old place, figured we need a shelter here also, we live right in the middle of tornado alley,
😂😂 Solo para tornados
NO aguanta las bombas
Dutch has his Man Cave!
I'm impressed by the crew, her professional.
This is a really GOOD video, thanks. Glad they make these shelters. When I was 13 I lived in Colorado, and one really bad storm came to town. I was on the roof of my house and there were 4 tornados within view (and damn close too), I swear, 1 from each point on the compass. Scarry as heck.
It would be better if it had a steel rollbar over the doors to keep heavy objects off the doors during a storm.
Good job. The only thing i would suggest is segregating the clay and topsoil when excavating. Therefore when backfilling you can keep the topsoil at the finished level.
Good point. I just leaned something. Thanks. Going to be putting a shelter in soon.
Dutch aint very sharp.
the lid opens out , you better put a jack and some anchor points and assortment of steel beam in there, so if anything lands on the door.
Oh heck no! Glad we don’t get many tornados. I’m major league cloister phobic. Love your channel. I always though there should be a law where all trailer parks and homes with no basements, be required to put in large shelters. It’s sad to see the injuries and deaths because they have no where to go. Especially in tornado alley. They are consumed with making money and not care about the safety of humans and their pets. Would love to know how to get a bill passed to to retrofit older parks and new communities to have a shelter. Saving money is not worth the loss of life. Btw last month in a storm we had 2 tornadoes by our house. Never experienced it before and was scared to death. Sounded like 2 freight trains going down our driveway. I hope this video encourages others to follow suit. 👍❤️
I don't know if it's normal, but when I think about the bunker I get excited

@@aliaskong1723 no, just 2 with this model
Me too! We must be related)
We need something similar as we have no basement. Hiding in a bathroom on the lower level just doesn't cut it 🙂
I live in Texas. Grew up always having a shelter. I'm going to have one built for myself and family.
Great shelter and video! Thanks for sharing..
Human: "Came on baby"
Dog: "Are You insane, the sun is shinning. It's a beatiful day"
Cool...just keep a hydraulic jack and a 4x4 in case something falls on the door.
David Schumaker that's a great idea...thank you for watching
And a battery operated metal cutting circular saw.
And a couple sticks of dynamite.
@@KeepingItDutch i could live there full time
That is some beautiful dirt there.
I noticed that.🇬🇧 👍
Step-daughter bought one..
Very nice looking to start with then the rain came..
Leaking problem due to the Rain..
Sent their warranty man out to inspect the problem made a few adjustments tightening bolts and the a leaking never stopped when it rained!
Notified the supplier once again and the supplier said it wasn't their problem anymore!
So there they were stuck with a shelter they could not use half full of water!!
So my advice would be anyone that sells these things stand behind what they sell because your satisfied customers are the best salesperson you will ever have!!
Word of Mouth by satisfied customers!!
*"AMEN"* !!!
I was thinking perhaps to install a drain tile and or gravel base to divert rain water.
Need to store a post jack in case heavy debris lays on to door.
Il m’a bien fait rire avec son bunker de 2m50 et de 1 me d’épaisseur 😂
greetings from Oregon...this is a great idea to have if one's house is torn apart and you could live in this bunker until your new house is up and running.
Thanks for showing this video and I'm sold! Only problem I see is something landing on door.. so I would have a 50 ton jack and some cribbing even a chain saw! You Never no ,and thanks for sharing.
Nice shelter. The installation seems to be easy and quick 👍
I just hope there will be no storm that blow anything heavy onto the entrance door.
You better reinforce that door my friend
You would think the door would be sufficient - any suggestions?
Why, it has 2 extra latching bolts inside. Plus I’m sure the doors are tested.
Great insights, thx !! Operator did a great job, makes it look easy.
That's Great Dutch Family!!! Sure wished we'd had a Shelter when we lived in Midwest City OK. Have to price them, we moved to Texas still Tornado country LOL! Thank-you for the Video!
Dutch, that is awesome, nice video of the installation.
love the skills of the crew that installed it.
Great job digging a precise hole for that. Keep safe.
Ron Birrell You might consider constructing a covered walkway for access during hail, as well as a "tool shed" over the opening to keep curious kids out. Door does need to open inward.
man that nice rich top soil!! I'm jealous (a Dallas boy like only sees that out-of-state).
jedmarum yeah this is old farm land
best video on youtube
In Canada, I'd suggest a foundation membrane on the exterior & weeping tile & gravel around the bottom of the exterior, to help deal with ground water. I'd also suggest lowering the it's depth and putting gravel underneath it.
S.R. Hurst some ppl do that here in the states also. I've had no problems this way
@@KeepingItDutch how's the bunker
A very wise investment.. we got ours in 1999 and have had to use it twice in the past 8 years when tornadoes nearly destroyed our little town twice in three years almost to the day apart .. several people were killed both times.. definitely scary !
Nice! I'm having to hand dig and build mine... My son and I are building it like a "fort" as not to scare him.
Interesting. Don't have to worry about house structure falling on you in a tornado like I do in my basement.
Great idea.
Yeah we had a safe room at our old house, but we like this style, going to be my wife new home this spring lol
Most of the tornado's I;ve been in all were with basement or cellars out side the hose. There were nohouse on top left to fall in on us. and I've never had a tornado suck us or the door off the cellar

Unless your IH 1086 or your JD 8320 falls on the door and you have no way out, ya need a secondary escape hatch
CLAY WARNING
Clay will expand and contract with increases and decreases in moisture content, so too much clay in the soil to the depth of the installed bunker could be problematic due to stress heaving. Maybe a foot-deep layer of gravel and then some sand would provide sufficient drainage and stability. Houses with slab-foundations are structurally damaged in Texas and Oklahoma with clay soils, and disaster insurance may not be available in some areas.
Those things are definitely worth all the money living here in Oklahoma!! It was awesome meeting you today at the meet up I had a great time!! Thank you!
Man I wish I had your soil that is amazing
Buy a 2000 gallon septic holding tank and you have a bigger one and its probably cheaper..
Larry W to late now lol
no door no ventilation, no stairs
avianphlu5397 rent a cement saw and a Hilti & you're good to go 😉
Simply use the inlet and outlet pipe and add a two 12 volt fans and couple deep cycle batteries and a 120 vac line for charging them.
avianphlu5397 here just door and stare))) but stare cost in any DIY 25 bucks and this door- nothing )))
Have an identical one. Haven’t had to use it but once and that was the day they put it in. Hubby put in benches around the sides snd battery powered lights. It’s all set. Hope we don’t have to use it ever! Oh we are in sw Missouri
I love love your dog. Looks just like the one I had, lost to hip dysplasia. We also have an underground shelter, so I enjoyed your video
I need one of those here in south Georgia 😂
Change the door for a thick lead one and put more soil over and around it and you also have a fallout shelter! :)
Don't forget an air filter.
Alex A that would awesome
And when the house collapses and traps you inside...?
caulkins69 - He doesn't look to be in a area that would take a direct hit so it would be fine for fallout only. Now a 'blast' shelter would have to be well underground and built differently.
Also, the farce.
I think I would be the type to have a inflatable mattress in there with blankets ,first aid kit , a bucket , lanterns , and I would have to prepare an emergency box for when we would go down there with
Girl products , kids products, napkins , wipes , snacks , drinks
Hey Dutch, how are you doing today buddy,i just happened to see this video,im glad to see you have protection fir your family in case of a bad storm, keep these videos coming because i enjoy watching and learning!
Man it looks scary down in that thing...better hope nobody sneaks in that thing and lives lol
Stoney Ridge Farmer hahaha for sure,
Well done a great job 👏
Better to stay safe these tornadoes are no joke from Mississippi

The sealant that is applied to hold the top on what is it and is it strong enough not to get ripped off?..
That’s a good idea. I had asked your brother Daniel if y’all have tornados in his area. I dang sure would have one of them shelter’s.
This guy is an absolute genius. Guy buys a tornado shelter to protect his family. Then he records the installation. Uploads it to a CZcams. Makes his money back for the shelter off of ad revenue. True definition of working smarter not harder.
This is pretty cool and was awesome how fast it was installed.
And is it a good idea to have the entrance open for any one to see?
And couldn't the ventilation get damaged ?
And will the door be strong enough if anything hits it?
No, yes and No. That vent will be gone in seconds. Door gone in a minute. Whole thing sucked out and hurled through the sky in under two minutes.
I dont really think this shelter is good enough.
It is not totally underground so If a tornado just pass by I think it's gone.
Also it is too small. I am afraid about the lack of oxygen to breath.
@@supermoa5016 I agree. Its barely adequate as storm shelter, and its definitely not "a bunker" as doutch bag tries to claim it is.
Thank you for showing us your shelter!!!
I agree. Its only a shelter. Not a bunker as he falsely claims.
Wow that is the Best tornado shelter I've seen ,,Very nice ,, especially in Oklahoma ..here in Colorado we have tornados ,but nothing like Oklahoma
me parece un poco pequeño pero de construccion esta exelente
dog said ah NOPE not going in that there hole! lol...
Hahaha she probably thought she would never get out lol
Maybe a good idea to get her used to getting in?
Darrell Moore, can I have a moment of your time to talk about our overlord the prince of darkness?
michelvosje e
It’s really awesome! Only thing that would scare me is if something heavy fell on the door. There’s not an alternate escape hatch.
That's why the door is at a tilt away from heavy things if some falls on it shouldn't just sit there
Came here from Hidden Heights.. Great video. New supporter here. I always wondered the process. Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations you bought yourself a septic tank with a door on it
@charlie James that wasn’t even nice at all show support for this hard working man he’s so deserving of it Offer insight or helping hands on hand or a better solution than what he has or add financial support
People are allowed to joke damm
😂😂
@@pammilaclydes4584 That is what he basically has but it will work well for the job so it's not really insulting.
Yours would probably be a Septic Tank... Dutch's will be a Palace....
Depends what you fill it with !
Why do shelters have doors that open to the out side? What if something falls on it and blocks it?
Kristijan Žic doors open out are stronger against winds. many homes in Fl have them that way.slanted hatch would help slide debris off. it's a compromise sometimes some add tunnl hatches in addition adding cost and water infultration places you can spend a hundred thousand but who has it
Ja R If I lived there, I would rather dig myself a luxury Hobbit hole than build a house that would be forever at risk and a shelter that I could be trapped in.
You can place high-lift inside shelter and use it together with 1 - 2 m steel tube to push door up.
then they should put 2 doors on it
Against debris beating it in
Great vid. I have been eyeballing different bunkers and this was nice to see an installation. Build a cinder block wall around with gun ports your set for the end.
If you think this could pass as a "bunker" then you wouldn't last long at all.
My only concern is the connection of the topportion. I can't believe the adhesive is enough.
I was wondering that myself
I would like to see 15-20 mechanical fasteners (grade 5 bolts) holding that top on, not a bead of adhesive/chalk.
chucky64 if you look carefully you will see that there is steal and bolts olding the top and bottom together.
look at 5:33 you can see them
@@KeepingItDutch Yes, and 4:13 shows the strap attach points for the lid and the bottom. Good job!
Сделать полки и отличный погреб. А бункер так себе.
Погреб инсталлэйшн ))))
Pretty cool. In my part of the world (Eastern NC) that hole would have been 3/4 full of water.
fun to watch, if you want few pointers or observations, x inspector for stealth site, 1000s of structures above and below , ground
I speak Spanish, good video I like, how incredible your effort, friend I'm writing this with translator ok
Franco Bolaños Mejia thank you
Jajajajajajjajajajajajajaj puto amo

Hey Dutch, your storm shelter is awesome. How much more would it cost for a size 10’ x 8’?
3 dollars plus tax
@@oxnard_audit9923 hahaha
Great idea! A must have to protect your family! I’d start with bring the dog in then show her how to get out!
I would add some water sealer to the concrete and maybe paint it too. You don't want any leaks.
The stair took up most of the room... Why not a ladder?
Emanuel Lachman Baumberger that's the way these ones came, I'm fine with the stairs, there are only 5 of us that would need to get in there and we could get way more if we need to. so the stairs are not that big of am issue for us.
Not a bad idea though. Depending on the physical ability to get down a ladder. Maybe you have elderly in you family who need the stairs. It all depends. I like the idea of having something like this. My dad built one under his cabin and it saved his and my moms lives. Turned my 5th wheel into splinters! Always better safe than sorry! We live about 10 minutes from downtown St. Louis and have had quite a few tornadoes
I hit like right after his opening lines. seems like a nice guy
charles breeding thanks a lot brother, I appreciate that.
Nice. Wish I had one because I don't have a basement, though I'm not in a tornado prone area. Just for my piece of mind. We get them here but they are pretty rare and we've never had a devastating one in my state.
Hi, I'm from Peru, I like your channel, someday I would like to visit Oklahoma
Nice !!
You did a beautiful job my friend
Norman Desrosiers thanks brother, hope you subscribed. thanks for taking the time to watch my video
+Darrell Moore You have taken each scripture out of context
I would live in it. Be nice and cool all year I imagine.
Love that B&T GSD in the background
How much was it I want one...but for my guns
One of the most satisfying videos I've watched all day
Outlye thank you for taking time to watch it.
I’d put a couple picnic benches in and a couple gallons of water spare flashlight but that fantastic
Ur a good FATHER, husband, keep videotaping, love your hard work.
Ik weet niet waar jij in Nederland zit, maar dit heeft niks met "keeping it dutch" te maken!
I'll probably won't have to translate it, because it's Dutch.😉
KoJaK hahaha My name is Dutch, thanks for watching
Why don't you build houses with basements? Almost every house has one over here.
KoJaK some out here do also,
maybe cheaper to move to Australia
appculture lol
appculture it would be even cheaper to just move to a state where they don't get tornadoes
+moedogger21 All the lower 48 get tornadoes. Its just that some rarely get them.
Ya i live in NZ no tornados here
how about the netherlands? there are tornados or hurricanes at all
Your puppy didn't want anything to do with the storm shelter... Lol
I'm planning on doing the same thing on my Colorado property...
but with an old Storage/Shipping Container !
I dream about having soil like that.
Anolbea it's pretty good, it's old farm land
I just looked a pleasure to dig. We sit on clay. Its a lot of hard work. You have a lovely looking plot.
I was thinking the exact same thing... good soil with no rocks at all.
Anolbea I know right
Me too, out here in the east the soil is packed with rocks☹️
good decision. could also use as a root cellar in the winter.
heck yeah it will be stocked in the winter lol
+Okie Farmer or a bomb shelter !! lol, its deep enough to survive a blast, not sure how long you could live in it.
+Permaculture Homestead lol for sure
Use it as a wine cellar and then if you do have to use it as a shelter it is already well stocked :)
What the kids have it for a playhouse
I would make sure you have a jack in their with you..if something falls on the door, you can pop it open
Good thinking in your area
"Not sure how many it'll hold, probably a bunch if a tornado is actually coming." - No truer words have ever been spoken, lol.

This is one thing all homeowners need in tornado alley although I wonder how many minutes warning do you have after they spot a tornado or the conditions for a tornado. The time it takes to go from your house and to the storm shelter.
