This is the end to an amazing concept album, where a young man is facing his death from cancer.
He can see himself on the verge of death "cos I'm out there on the other side of a jet black hotel mirror" and it's the live or die moment, where everything is so overwhelming, he has to decide if he has the strength to keep surviving. I like to think it's a conversation between the exhausted patient and "the dead parader" telling him to keep fighting.

This song is about the lead-singer’s brother and MCR guitarist wanting to quit the band. The touring, the lead-singer’s alcoholism, and many other things were driving him to not want to be a part of what was going on at that time in their rise to fame.
I’d say a good next song from them would be “I Don’t Love You”. That is a slower one that really shows their dynamic range as artists.
A different song/band that you should check out is Coheed and Cambria’s “The Gutter”. I’ll warn you, though… Coheed and Cambria are a concept band that tells a series of stories through their songs that were written by their lead man. Evaluating lyrics may prove somewhat pointless unless you dive all the way in. 😂

This is the last song of the album that tells the story of a man dying and leaving the living world.
"Honey, if you stay, I'll be forgiven." If she stays at his side while he lies on his death bed. Or, if she stays for his funeral service.
"Nothing you can say will keep me from going home." The afterlife. Even if she stays, it won't be able to stop him from dying and leaving her behind.

A couple of my favorite my chem songs are
1/2. Skylines and Turnstiles/cubicles - from their first album, Skylines and Turnstiles inspired after 9/11 happened. The aftermath of 9/11 is what inspired Gerard Way to create My Chem - Cubicles - this song really speaks to me because it feels real, and I can relate to it.
3/4. The world is ugly/ the light behind your eyes - these songs got me through some shit in middle and high school, and always make me feel better
5/6. You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison/ I'm Not Okay (I promise) - Both are fun songs, YKWTDTGLUIP always puts me in a happy mood because of the energy. I'm not okay is a song I feel a lot of kids relate to, and the music video is a blast.
7/8. Sleep/Disenchanted - Both of these songs are great for when I'm feeling sad or upset. Sleep always gives me chills because of the backstory, and Disenchanted was a song that I always relate to.
9/10. SING/ The Kids From Yesterday - these are from their most upbeat sounding album, and both songs always make me want to be a better person.
11/12/13. All The Angels/Not That Kind Of Girl/Heaven Help Us - These songs are probably a couple of the least known My Chem songs. All The Angels is so very underrated and one of my absolute favorites. Not That Kind Of Girl - I relate to this song so much, and also underrated. Heaven Help Us - Every time I'm in some sort of bad mood, this song always gives me a little faith that not everyday is dark and gloomy.
I tried to give you a couple songs from each album. Each album has a very distinct sound, and so does Gerard. I have to say that I hated the first album when I first heard it. I love it now, but the way it sounds took me a while to adjust to. My Chem means a lot to me (my brother and I got pit tickets to one of their concerts!!!) but all of their albums have different sounds, so people will definitely have an album they prefer. Hopefully you'll listen to my suggestions!

There are several things going on in this song. For one, the guitarist, and brother to the lead singer had left the band because of anxiety, depression and addiction issues. Also Gerard (lead singer) was breaking up with his girlfriend. And also like most of the songs on this album, they were exploring death and how we react to it. So the lyrics reflect all of those issues.
By the way... Once Gerards brother heard the early draft of this song... He came back to the band and started straightening his life out.

Just letting you know (if you didn't already) the entire black parade album is about a cancer patient. Mikey had left the band and this song got him to come back; Gerard had also split with his girlfriend, so those factors probably play a role in the specific lyrics even though it is mainly about the cancer patient. There are just so many philosophical and literal meanings in this song. it is also possible this is from the caner patients girlfriends point of view. It is a really interesting song to analyse. I am even doing an English presentation on it. BANANA

I’m sure you looked more into it by now, but to put into perspective, the album is a story of its own about a cancer patient and what he’s going through. I feel like this song is more of a lasting confrontation or acceptance.
There’s a lot of themes that kinda explain what kind of person the patient was in life and where he’ll probably end up after.
Gerard never explained what happened to the patient and kinda left it open and up to the listeners interpretation.

Did you hear 'light behind your eyes' and 'helena' by this band? You gotta react to those. Nice reaction. You have a good ear for instruments and lyricism.

One of my favorite MCR songs is "The Kids From Yesterday" but it's from their most disliked album
so it's probably an unpopular opinion.
You should check out Rise Against - Tragedy + Time it's a song that that means a lot to me.

@@anarchobaby I know, danger days is a fantastic album but all these punk/emo music snobs go around talking shit about it because in their word's "it's not as good as The Black Parade" or "it's to poppy" and by doing that
they make people think it's a bad album and not worth listening to, which is just not true.
All they do is compare to their other albums and say it's shit just because it sound's "different".
