      When I interviewed for med school one of the best pieces of advice an interviewer gave me was when choosing a specialty decide “would you like to know a lot about a little or a little about a lot” also “do you want short term relationships or long term relationships with your patients”. Jamie for example knows a lot about a little and has short term relationships. Something to think about

      @RonShenkar Před 5 lety +20

      Hmm, that's a big one. I had this on my mind for a couple of months while I was doing an ER rotation and while I did miss not knowing the final diagnoses and the full course of treatment of those patient with the really interesting pathologies, I found that for most of the patients, they weren't as exciting/intriguing in the sense that I felt like I HAD to take part of their major treatment plan (COPD, CHF exacerbations, cellulitis, the weak and dizzy...)
      My point is that while this really seems like a turn off at the beginning, I think that for most people (you might be the exception, who knows?) they end up not viewing this as that big of a con in the long run. Patients can be hilarious, fun and interesting, but a whole bunch of them will make your hair turn grey on you long before it naturally should, at which point you thank god you only have to see them for like 5 more hours and then they're off to the ward.

    I have been to the emergency room twice. First time I think I was 7 or 8. I live out in the country but not on a farm. Anyways I was digging in the garden with a pitchfork which now that I think of it was not a smart idea plus I was wearing saddles when this happened. Had to get three stitches on my foot. The 2nd time I was in the ER happened after I crashed my bike. I was riding my bike back to work cause I was on break. I was peddling down a hill I looked to my left for a brief second next thing I know I slammed right into a parked car that was on the side of the street. I scraped my knees, elbow and hands pretty bad but the more Saveur injury was my chin. It had a huge chunk of skin missing. The doctor said he could not stich it back up since there was not enough skin. Thankfully though I was wearing my bike helmet. I can't even imagine what would have happened if I didn't have my helmet on. That bike crash happened when I was 17 and it happened 4 days before my sister got married.

Do you have "Tintinalli Hour"? I also wanna know the scope of your practice there in the states. From receiving a patient to stabilizing then ready for admission to the specific department let's say Internal Medicine? Thanks! Would really appreciate to have a feedback from you. I am currently a first year EM resident here in the Philippines.

    Great video 👌..I'm always inspiring from your videos, but still a question to ask about time management which is a big problem in my life as a med student (vlogging, studying, working, friends' time, ..etc. I'm just studying all the time without real avail, and want to have friends' time, to create some videos..etc.. How can I do this ! And how to manage time perfectly ! )..
    Thank you ^^ 🌷

    Im confused with how residency works. So you choose a medical specialty and match into a program but still do rotations with different specialties? What's the point of the MATCH then?

    Woo! New video hehe 🙌🏽❤
    Quick question, in the ED is the scope of practice for PAs compared to ER physicians similar? Currently taking prereqs for med school as a nontrad but also learning more about PA life.

      Amanda Pearson hi! I’m in PA school. I shadowed two PAs in the ER. They would have an MD and a PA in each area. And it looked like they just would pick someone to go see. Didn’t really matter if t was a MD or a PA. I saw them drain abscesses, multiple stitches, almost staples but they decided to do stitches. And doing the same things like taking a history, ordering things. The MD never saw the pts the PA saw unless they had a question.

      TheBalls55 I really hope you’re not trying to disrespect the doctors that are literally the first responders to disasters in the hospitals💀
      When an accident takes place, no matter what specialty it is in, emergency doctors deal with it first. DO NOT disrespect them.

    is emergency medicine like that( long hour shifts) after residency , like when you get a job as an EM doctor or not

    • @levibeam100
      @levibeam100 Před 3 lety

      Depends on so many things. A very common thing as an EM doctor is not a specific amount of days, but an amount of hours. So in your contract you might have to work 144 hours in a month, and as long as you make it the hours are very flexible. Some do 12, 12 hour shifts. Some people do 18, 8 hour hour shifts. And some people mix it up with a mixture of 8 to 12 hour days.
      Because of shift work, you’re most likely only going to have 8 to 12 hour shifts. And So I guess I can’t answer your question entirely because “long hour shifts” is pretty relative. I guess if 8 hours is a normal work day, 12 hours is a lot longer. But you also work less days. So there’s pros and cons to either of them.
      Hope that helped though.
