    I play Genshin almost since the release and was interesting in a similar game ToF. Well, I'm still playing it and have no plans to quit, even though many of my friends already left. Yes, the game struggled a lot with server lags, bugs, weird UX desicisons, but I think it slightly becomes better every update and can provide things Genshin cannot. Unfortunately, the most of players already will never return...

    Back when Genshin was new. I didn't like it cuz of how clunky the combat is (Klee is damn slow), the characters only have 3 moves each and there's barely anything to do for dailies. I came back at 2.1 at Yoimiya's debut banner and speedrunned the story to unlock Inazuma when I got Diluc (still my main unchanged with 3.7k Atk stat) until I eventually hit endgame loop. I start to admire Genshin through the story cuz it forces you to watch UNSKIPPABLE cutscenes. For Tower of Fantasy, I did the same by stopping before I fought the Sage and Nemesis because anything outside challenges are too easy, and returned at Mirroria update. One big difference between the two is that Tower of Fantasy is a mandatory multiplayer where Bosses are almost impossible to defeat without a team. In Genshin, it's optional to have a multiplayer team and bosses are easy. I never got sick of Tower of Fantasy's combat but I do for the story and it's opposite for Genshin. I play both games as it makes the experience perfectly balanced....as all things should be.

    TOF is a nice game, but the execution is very bad. I feel like the devs are so lazy for not being able to properly polish the game. Another thing is, ToF lacks balance. It is now becoming pay-to-win. Characters are easily powercrept and left to trash. I spent to A6 Tian Lang with full matrices, but 2 months after, Fenrir came and shrunk Tian Lang like a helpless ant.

  • @ThegreatHera420
    @ThegreatHera420 Před rokem +36

    As a Genshin player myself, TOF was what I wanted for Genshin from the get go. I think TOF biggest issue was being compared to Genshin. Genshin is a single player experience that has a story that has gone a while. IMO if you skipped the story then say it’s bad it’s so unfair and makes no sense. From my experience I wasn’t particularly interested myself although I tried to be in Genshin’s story until I reached the “we will be reunited” part and I can tell you there’s a few Genshin players I know who still aren’t interested in the story to this day and play because they like the strategy. Coming up with builds, testing them, seeing if they work, fix any errors that’s the Genshin experience unless you’re following someone else’s idea. I also don’t think the PvP is necessarily a problem as you make it out to be. In Genshin abyss frustrates people and many people play similar teams and but the good thing about abyss is the characters you might need are easier to get to an extent. I feel like TOF is game with a lot of potential and the real problem is these days some people drop things really quickly. Like they watch a show and feel like the quality is somewhat bad and they can see bits of problems and then they drop it. I’m not saying all of them were like that. Definitely not, but definitely a good number of people do.

      We Will Be Reunited was genuinely so bad for me. Not because the reveal of our sibling as Abyss leader was bad. In fact, that was the good part. It was the fact that it opens a lot of plotholes in the beginning of the game. It just doesn’t add up. Then Inazuma’s archon quest was horrible.

      inazuma along with inazuma's archon quest came out around anniversary time, when people's feelings towards the game weren't the best. this altered the way many players saw the game. not only that, but at that time the devs were pumping out content like crazy. because of this, things felt rushed. they didn't feel like they had much care put into them, and i agree. inazuma didn't suffer from bad writing, it suffered from bad pacing. people were rushing to clear content or story and that's why things felt so fast, especially since people most players at the time were already above the required ar to be able to do those quests. ask a new player now and they have different feelings about inazuma than those of people who played when it came out.

    I quit a few days after I got Fenrir. Playing TOF is like driving a Diablo then losing the brakes and smashing into a wall. The combat is the best aspect of the game as you can air dash in addition to dodge and that freedom during combat helps with the flow A LOT. But then all that time farming and maxing out your lv80 eqps only to die in 1-4 hits from bosses or mini bosses is ridiculously stupid. It makes you question wtf is your defense stat for. Then you get revived a FKNG kilometer away and boss is dead when you get back. Finally, seeing a white treasure icon in your minimap and wasting so much time climbing or finding a way to get into the catacombs then realizing the treasure is in the other vertical direction (like vera and its city). TLDR combat is awesome but enemies can be too cheap and exploration can waste too much time.

    You made some good points, and I’d like to add that for the day 1 players, the time gating on almost everything it was big turn-off. I know Genshin and ToF are 2 completely different genre but in this case I believe it is worth comparing them. When I watched streamers from other games try out Genshin, almost every time they got hooked because even at a lower level they were able to do all sorts of stuff to keep them distracted. Even recently, a big LoL content creator, Necrit tried genshin without the intention of playing it for long and right now he still plays it both on stream and off stream because he said he find it fun to get distracted with everything in the world. Now, Tower of Fantasy had the same opportunity at launch even though most of the content creators they sponsored weren’t into that kind of game, but they screwed it up big time. So when their sponsorship is up they don’t have any reason to come back to the game anymore, and their audience have no reason to keep playing the game other since the streamer they want to play with no longer plays the game. Even today, content creators and players are still quitting ToF. Dedicated creators since the CN days such as Holiest quit the game. There was another content creator who used to defend ToF to death recently switched over to lost ark and hasn’t return to ToF since.

    There are 4 core bad fatal factor why this game failed :
    1. Try to be Genshin instead of just themself, indentity crisis before the game even out.
    2. The controversy show they overeliant of bad publicity which end up horribly backfired especialy the entire plagiarism controversy.
    3. Hacker and exploitation during launch, not sure nowadays but I bet they will always find new exploits.
    4. For some reasom they have battle royale mode but it didn't even help when there is hacker around oof.
    This game could be something but they fumbled it before it's even out. The irony about this about player even content creator try to shit on Genshin are they only last play the game for only few weeks only to regret it. I've seen one small GI content creator that their fanbase call him "honest" and reliable only to be shown as a massive hypocryte, so much for that honesty and "edgyness" no wonder a big "influencer" end up took advantage of the creator hypocrisy making beef with this smaller creator.

  • @pepitomikelorbeta1271
    @pepitomikelorbeta1271 Před rokem +16

    One thing I liked about Genshin over ToF is that in Genshin the characters feel complete, like for dupes you get a more powerful version but not by much. You raise the latest Genshin unit and with a good team you can clear (or progress in) abyss with them. In ToF it's almost mandatory for you to get Ascensions or you really can't justify using them over an A6 standard unit. In Genshin you get a character that's good, you progress in endgame (abyss). In ToF, when you get A3 (and that's me being generous), you barely move in Bygone Phantasm. Getting 1 dupe feels so bad in ToF because your account barely gets anything out of it. You can't even connect to the character cuz (as mentioned by others here) they feel so hollow.
    I loved ToF, I wanted to continue loving it, but like, everything felt like such a chore and you barely get anything even when you get the latest character. In Genshin if you're F2P you can still play around with a lot of units, in ToF you are basically shoehorned into a certain comp if you're F2P, which gets very monotonous and boring.

    • @applyinggaming9529
      @applyinggaming9529 Před 10 měsíci +4

      Basically F2Ps will struggle being competitive and clear harder solo contents,and in order to atleast compete even a little you are stuck to an element which sucks so much. That's basically the f2p problem of the game, genshin is f2p friendly because the game was mesnt for casuals.

    • @zSTALKn
      @zSTALKn Před 9 měsíci

      I haven’t dipped my toes into ToF so I can’t say anything regarding that, but I am an AR 59 in Genshin (2nd number in my UID is 3) and I can say with confidence everything related to Genshin in that comment is incorrect.
      Let’s start with dupes. Sometimes it’s not necessary, and other times it’s almost mandatory to get them. To highlight a couple of the latter, you will never see a Yun Jin paired with a Yoimiya nor Ayato if she is isn’t C6 because her ult increases the entire team’s normal attack speed by 10%. Another example is Hu Tao, whose first constellation stops stamina being used for charged attacks in her transformed state. The most impactful constellations are inconsistent across the board, but the consensus is that constellations for 5 stars aren’t _usally_ worth going after, and all 6 are needed for 4 stars (except for one of them.)
      Now for Abyss, which isn’t even endgame content. It’s an advertisement for the current banners, a flying kick to the nuts, and sometimes both. Oftentimes the lineup of enemies will be tailored to the characters featured on the banners and nobody else. Sure, you might be able to get by using Jean instead of Kazuha, but you will only be able to just get by. Let’s also not forget that you need 2 teams of 4 so if you’re missing so much as 1 character featured or their backbone is underdeveloped, your time and thus rewards are going to suffer.
      And now lastly, the characters themselves. The moment you lock a character in your head, your accomplices are already decided and you’re shoehorned into getting them. Either characters will force you to play a specific way, locking you down to specific characters (case of Kaveh and Nilou) or have the damage flow in the wrong direction by doing reactions backwards or having to continuously toggle back and forth between two characters (why the same team wouldn’t work if Diluc replaced Hu Tao on a vaporize.) Worst part is these problems don’t care if you’re F2P or not. Everyone is suffering because of restrictive character design which is also why you rarely see variation from one player’s particular character to another apart from minute stat differences.

      @@pepitomikelorbeta1271 Oh, goody. You revealed yourself as one of those people that think Genshin is a skill oriented game like Pizza Tower, Deep Rock Galactic and any game by FromSoftware. News flash: *It isn’t.* The game is covered from head to toe in RNG (Random Number Generation, slang for luck.) The units you get to play around with, the weapons, artifacts plus their attributes, and your chance to crit. Therefore, there are no two accounts out of the >100 million that are the exact same.
      Since you missed the entire Kazuha/Jean argument and wrote it off as “skill issue,” I’ll expand by directly quoting the source; @TheRealestOne in a comment thread in Tectone’s _Players FURIOUS with Genshin Impact | Tectone Reacts_
      (For context, this is about the god awful abyss lineup of 3.7 that I myself got 36 stars on)
      “…Kazuha is the easiest way to clear that 2nd chamber on floor 1 but I was able to clear it using Jean. Yes it took a little effort, but I did it anyway. This doesn’t mean that the game was necessarily tough, it’s just the annoying mechanics of the enemies which otherwise wouldn’t have mattered much if I had Kazuha. So you see what I'm getting at here is that all the mechanics they throw at us have a really quick and efficient solution, which is to get the right character. In this case, it’s Kazuha. Otherwise it'll take a little more effort for you to do it. You’ll still be able to clear it, you're just gonna have to brute force it like I did with Jean.
      And again, this isn't a flex. Ultimately, there's literally zero skill requirements to play this game. It all boils down to having the right characters and artifacts.
      And it doesn't matter if I had any trouble in clearing this abyss with 36 stars or not, what matters is that this way of increasing difficulty is cheap and unfair to players that don't have broken artifacts and characters.”
      The entire point of my original comment was to emphasize Genshin is (progressively becoming) awful for *everyone* for multiple reasons. The versatility of the newer characters is greatly diminished compared to the older ones, and that it’s a Gacha game. Gacha games don’t care about how much you spend, and you’ve seen this first hand with your Bennett. That being said, see you at the AR 60 club on the day Fontaine comes at the latest.

I quit for the same reason the fact that the passive abilities of characters weapons is that you needed at least A1 to make them unique and different from same elements weapons. A3 definitely would take it up a notch towards A6 but yet some weapons weren’t even as good as other elements weapons to bothered. For example my Fire Scythe doesn’t do nearly as much dmg as Friggs or Saki weapons which bothers the heck outta of me. You’d assume it’ll do a lot of dmg since it’s capped A6 but no. 1. Bad Story and Side Quest:
    TOF lack of character interaction make player not having emotional relationship to character and TOF world..example there is a character name claudia,and till now i don't know what kind of personality she have,basically no story or minimum story..that's why you rarely see TOF character memes because the player have limited knowledge about character in TOF.
    2. Game not optimize on pc and especially Mobile version :
    People rarely talk about this...but the mobile version is very important if you want to be big like Genshin, and TOF failed in this category because The mobile version so Laggy and not enjoyable to play even on high end phone,i know some player that want to play but this problem make a lot of player quit early...and this problem still happened Now..
    3. I want to correct some misunderstanding about Gacha in TOF...actually more cheaper than Genshin..120 guaranteed you to get limited 5 star from shop,but people so lazy to read so they don't understand that mechanic..i manage to get A4 character with focusing on 1 element as free to play
    My conclusion is TOF have potential but Failed in excecution..TOF feel like rushed game that need more time to develop...but TOF is suitable game for people who don't care about story and just want to play co op combat with friend

      Tof is not cheaper than genshin
      Sure, you can get the character you want at 120 pulls
      But here is the real kicker
      How many characters in that game works 100% fine with no dupe?
      Thats where the game doesnt become cheap
      As you need dupes to make that character even usable
      While on genshin, characters at c0 is perfectly fine

    Genshin is only good if a new chapter of the story is released. You log back in, do the latest story, Track down all the worthy rewards on the new maps, then log out and wait for another chapter. Anything other than that is boring. Domains are boring and annoying, cuz u never get what you want, and even after grinding like crazy to get the artifact you need you roll trash stats, rinse and repeat. Coop sucks cuz you are limited to one character, and NOBODY PLAYS A SUPPORT, Infinite tower challenge is made for whales, exploration is really lonely, with you having to invite people to explore with you, only to have to kick them when you want to turn in a quest. Not to mention that lately, they keep pushing out characters to make people summon WAY TOO FAST!. Tower of Fantasy is Better than Genshin. You can play with a lot of friends, Endgame is actually fun with ACTUAL RAIDS and world bosses. exploration is way better, due to the Relics they added, and they keep adding new fun events and things every week or so. I wish more people would play the game and not think of it as dead. I'm playing it since the global launch and it is one of the few games I play daily. Genshin is however now only a part of my past, as I have ditched it a long time ago, and only log in once a new map is out, merely out of curiosity. The latest update with the underwater region is amazing, and the just revealed new District 9 map looks to be even greater. It is a good time to get back in the game, if you dropped it, because Fiona, one of the first ACTUAL GAMECHANGING characters will be added soon to global.

    funny part the people who said claiming this was a genshin killer are now hating the game itself even tho they only played the game for few days and weeks or till ver 1.5 (imo the mmo vibe started on 2.0, i remember my first time coming to Valk raid that reminds me of those old mmorpg titles like dragon nest, vindictus and etc that you cant just kill the boss you to do these mechanics which is fun)
    now these people are shtting on this game for claiming for its being a genshin killer even theyre the one who started it lol.
    worst part when this game tried to use other game as reference or inspiration on their game people would say they're stealing and copying (yes they did steal some asset but just 2-3)
    but when the other does it even 100% same animation just different model they'll say it "inspired"
    i played both game and still having fun
    tho i spend more time on TOF since its a grindy game. on genshin just doing daily stuff then logs out then cycle till new part of map updates again
    the game still ranks to top 20 above making $9m last month and $5m this january (mobile alone, excluding pc and 3rd party shops) probably x3 its value but still cant defeat the top5 gachas
    problem people who tried this game on first day/week/month will never check this game out again and will be forever bad to them and the internet. cause we have this "first impression" mindset.
    even the game is too different now and more fun than it used to be. most people thinks the game already stop updating lol they still think its the same thing they played on first day (asked my friends what they know bout tof right now) and they didnt expect this game still earning millions of dollar per month. the only way to save this game have a popular streamer revisit this game and play it till for weeks till they hit max level able to gear their account.
    i check tectone and mtash sponsored stream i could clearly says they still dont get the game more likely theyre just pushed to play the game cause they're paid. like every content they had in game like raids they tried are carried by hundreds of players, they havent meet max level they dont even have a grappling hook relic lol and no gears.

    Weird I like it way more than genshin impact. Only thing "to me" Genshin has over ToF is it's on all platforms. The simple fact you can't create a character and have a true mmo experience on Genshin I didn't like that. I'm like like all the other guys, I hate playing as females and I hate a game that doesn't let you create your own character. I couldn't get immersed. I'm playing ToF on my pc right now with my fiance and cousin and daughter. Genshin would be great if it was a true mmo, had character creation and handled classes like ToF did.

  • @cktan523

    As mentioned, ToF is an mmo which is totally different genre from Genshin. I'm an ex-mmo player been playing since early 2000s and played quite a number, tho mostly KR/ JP mmos like Lineage, Aion, Mabinogi, Blade & Soul etc. But have tried WoW, GW, Archeage etc. When I look at ToF, I just see a very poorly done mmo. So even comparing to its own category of MMOs, I feel it lacks from predecessors. Also I stay away from MMOs now cos of work and family, no time for black hole time sinks. So Genshin scratches that itch but is very manageable/ sustainable for people like me. Just hope new gamers don't take ToF to represent MMOs, cos I think it's a pretty poor specimen. Just that it's newer. MMOs are expensive to develop, and gaming has moved a lot to mobile.

    Back when ToF was hyped up i tried playing the CN server and at that time i didn't like it. I play genshin too (currently ar59) and i still disliked ToF, to me the gamplay is too "jumpy", enemies are braindead, the exploration suck as well as too much capsules around/not hidden behind any tyle of puzzle or locked by time. The world is not polished enough, the textures of the grass is garbage as well as the buildings. They tried too much giving the post apocalyptic-tecnological vibe. I liked the idea of mounts/surf boards but disliked some like the robot arms etc.. some gadgets are useless. Also the jetpack mechanic is kinda lame because of the high reset time like come one you are going to make me wait a whole minute or more for a jump...fk off... worst than tartaglia E. Customization did not disappoint, nice that main char can use all weapons as well as the other characters come with thei weapon already. Speaking about security it kinda sucked, the whole inventory wiping etc.. but yeah genshin security isn't much too (but yeah at least hackers don't fk up your inventory from outside of your account). There are probably some more things that i didn't list. On the other side genshin has great lore, characters, not so great weapon gacha sadly, good exploration, nice puzzles, not dependent on meta, great map, good textures etc...

    I stopped playing genshin from 6 months (basically when tof got released)
    I felt that I can't do a proper gameplay in genshin anymore, The game is just really slow, but I installed it from 2h again bc (I missed the old days), and I'm a day 1 genshin player, All I can say it was hard really.., The control is just bad and it felt like I'm running in slow motion and the exploring got me bored in only 1h and not to mention that I couldn't do a simple rotation or movement, I was dashing midair trying to jump twice, trying to use my mount and relic and getting stuck sometimes while climbing since I always press ctrl instead of x.. But since I play other Shooter/Rpg and games somehow simular to genshin/tof that was weird to me.
    But musically and graphically genshin still amazing as always I enjoyed listening to the new music and the graphics is just fascinating, But the gameplay made me uninstall it once more. Ig I will never be able to play it again....

    Don't need to sugarcoat. Genshin is, in easier to understand terms, an objectively better game.
    ToF failed because they tried to fight Genshin head-on. This, they were justifiably compared. ToF won a few, but at the end of the day, Genshin still overwhelmingly won. I would go as far to say that Genshin should be grateful to ToF, because ToF several failures worked to highlight Genshin's high points.

      Multi-player has a bigger focus in tof than genshin co-op; you can have around 30 people fighting together against an open world boss...
      A few permanent, non-event minigames...?
      And dare I say it, a dialogue skip button.
      ...unfortunately that's the end of the list that tof does what genshin doesn’t, as there's also power creep that never gets insane in genshin, for example

      @Synthetica ToF has real endgame, co-op, and PvP, as well as real events between banners, the new underwater zone coming at the end of the month. Also, after the graphical upgrade it'll look better than Genshin in every way. You tell me objectively what Genshin brings to the table that isn't completely overshadowed by ToF's offerings. This wouldn't be the first time a game has had a rough launch and come back to take the throne.
      Also, the 2.6 update mentioned something about virtual reality, but the details are currently unknown.

    • @SyntheticaYT

      @@EienRozen an active player base. Also, when the first ToF event was just a scummy way of doing a banner (compared to Genshin where you get all event rewards simply for playing), I and many others were put off.
      Also ToF’s characters aren’t very interesting. Genshin’s characters are many of them loved to the point that they have their own discords and subreddits - the VA’s are known and loved for them.
      Also Genshin music crushes ToF’s music.

    • @EienRozen
      @EienRozen Před rokem +2

      @Synthetica You're bringing up the first "event" which I wasn't even around for. That's ancient history. I'm not talking about banners as events, I mean actual event content. Dance battles, jump contests, racing, most recently hide and seek, etc. Real events with meaningful rewards. Genshin just doesn't have that. Also, the story in ToF is infinitely more interesting, but that is just my opinion. We still don't know whether everyone else died during the attempt to reverse time or if it created a parallel universe that we're all trapped in. Sentient multidimensional beings are phasing in and out of reality furthering a currently unknown agenda. Multiple instances of possession and even a hybrid character that fully mutated into an Abyssant only to have their human body just *pop* out after they were defeated, and come back with new powers. A cult that is either trying to save everyone from a selfish authoritarian overseer, or led by a madman brainwashing followers to potentially destroy the world.
      ToF's music is on par with Genshin. Both have their moments, but they're B tier at best. Most gamers play their own music anyways.
      As for the server population, that's the point I'm betting on. It's low now, but a good product sells itself, and all it takes is a few returning players to start a cascade.
