Love the Mills Brothers. They were one of my Dad's favorite groups. So many great memories singing along with him & them. Thanks for the sweet memories and sweet sounds.....
I love The Mills Brothers. You know what? There's a musical based on their music, slated to start touring in February 2016, called "Up The Lazy River." Break a leg!
@@lifeontheledgerlines8394 Not that funny if you were aware that the BEE GEEs WERE NOT JUST DISCO!!!!!! THEY WERE AMAZINGLY DIVERSE MUSICIANS, WHO WERE PERSECUTED BY THE US MUSIC MEDIA - Hence your ignorance. Despite the US, they have still sold over 250 million albums!!!! And BARRY is in the Giunness Book Of Records, as the 2nd most successful songwriter in the history of music, after Paul McCartney. AND now Barry is SIR BARRY GIBB, being knighted for his contribution to music and charity.
@@lifeontheledgerlines8394 Please click on my icon/photo and see all the brilliant music they created over 5 decades, and Barry still is. You will see, at the top of the page that I have created, separate Playlists for each Decade - mostly in chronological order. Be prepared to be surprised. NB - Of course they were influenced by many musicians, including the BEATLES. BUT this was the music of their early childhood, before modern popular music, that influenced their amazing harmonies.
I M a care giver and the lady that am working with just remembered it and I got to CZcams to play it to her, and she is singing along and dancing with it
I always loved their old album , "Four Boys and A Guitar" Their best version of Stardust was on tthat album and but for one guitar as the title said, all of the horns were sounded by mouth , scatting and all. Lazybones and Java Jive was on that album also
the guy standing next to their father (second from right) is really good-looking! also, i can't believe i dind't know about the mills brother earlier..
Check out some of their other videos and you will see that the "eye thing" is part of their style. Siblings tend to have physical cues like that jn common.
@JDPotok No, I meant the one next to Harry and John Mills Sr. Not the guitar player but next to John Mills Sr. I now know his name is Gene Smith and the guitar player is Norman Brown but thanks for answering my question.
If anyone can tell me the names of the Mills Brothers, from left to right in the video above, it would mean a lot to me. I assume that's Harry singing the lead in the second verse, but which is Donald and Herbert. I guess that's John Sr over on the right singing bass, right?
@PhillyC187 Interesting story, however, the title says that the group you see here in the video are in fact The Mills Brothers. The InkSpots are good too.
I think you're imagining things because I see no "ugly racist stereotypes" whatsoever here. Also who are these "dancers" you mention because from what I saw there was not a single dancer in sight. All that we see here are 5 very well dressed men harmonizing beautifully to a gentle and perfectly harmless old song. Honest to God did we even watch the same video?!?!
This video, (up the lazy river) is not the video I commented on. The one I commented on, had all the men (Mills Bros and others) dressed in overalls with straw hats like field hands. all the women were in microshort poofy skirts and midriff tops, and one guy was sitting in a rocking chair eating a water melon.
I know right! My comment wouldn't have gotten anywhere close to those two likes without that "motherfucking" just thrown in there for seemingly no reason. It's almost like I was trying to emphasize how good a singer I believe Harry Mills is and how there is no replacement for, the one, the only, the man, the myth, the legend, the sweetheart of a generation, the great HAAAAARRRRRRRRY MIIIIILLLLLS In all seriousness that is just how I speak and I type the same way I speak, I tone it down when I need to and am in a professional environment, but when I am just commenting on youtube, whats the point in censoring myself?
I wish singers were this chilled out now
Music made by people with good taste, good hearing, good voices. The chords are sounding heavenly.
And how about those natty outfits! Bow-ties!
We need this to come back.
I sing this every day, loudly, and at work. Now at work I hear people whistling it.
As cool and smooth as a tall glass of buttermilk on a hot day!
This is the definition of "smooth."
This was my grandfather’s favorite group. I remember his playing their records when I was very little.
Loved this song since I first heard it and fell in love with the Mills Brothers. So good to hear them again.
1st Class! Beautiful! Great guys.
True African American Legends!
@marcd I would say your opinion about the past is nonsense.
Yes they truly are a blessing to us FBA, AA.
One of the great group in there time, I remember very well. We don’t have these groups anymore how sad.
Love the Mills Brothers. They were one of my Dad's favorite groups. So many great memories singing along with him & them. Thanks for the sweet memories and sweet sounds.....
My dad used to bbq with this music
My Father used to listen to this every weekend. I know all the words to all the songs, lol. Great memories!!!!
grew up listening to The Mills Brothers...I love them..thank you for posting.
one of the best songs I have heard in my entire 27 years of life on this goddamn planet
+Matthew Moody You should look for more of their music.....wonderful stuff!
Lol! Hang on, it don't get any better than this.
Dont like the planet?
You mean 33?
I love The Mills Brothers. You know what? There's a musical based on their music, slated to start touring in February 2016, called "Up The Lazy River." Break a leg!
Really? I had no idea!
My loving husband sang this to our 4,9, and 12 year old boys ages ago. Makes me smile!!!!
Real men doing their thing
Handsome gentlemen!
This group was the childhood inspiration of the Bee Gees, because the Mills Bros were a favourite of their fathers.
That's really funny to think about! Disco inspired by trad pop/jazz? Huh, everything's connected, I guess.

@@allymayful Interesting. Yes, I'll check your stuff out!
@@allymayful No, I knew they did other stuff, but disco is what they're typically associated woth. Sorry if I triggered you.
What a treasure. Learnt about them via CZcams. First time i love an algorythm.
What a treasure you've shared on CZcams. THANK YOU.
well ty im entertaing myself glad you stayed
American legends period!
I am a VERY keen fisherman and I want this "Lazy River" played at my funeral when it comes along.
This is what my Momma wanted too. I sang this to her as she breathed her final breaths. My Momma lives on in this song and in every river.
❤️❤️💯
DELIGHTFUL THANK YOU
So enjoyed all the posts of Mills Brothers , many thanks 🙏
Perfection in harmony! TYVM
mills brothers made me love this genre =)
One my favorite songs !
It is too bad these guys are not around anymore.....
The most soothing music ever made they were the greatest.
Feeling so nostalgic love these guys
Saw them just this morning on an old Jack Benny show - they were one of my favorites as a kid. Made my day seeing them on the show
Ditto
The epitome of cool.
Oh, that's gorgeous!
His voice is perfect for this song.
That was beautiful 😍
These guys just blow me away. Love them, love them, love them!
I LOVE THESE GUYS❤
so sweet!! i wish the young folks could hear this..
We do! I'm 14 but I listen to a lot of classical music, as well as jazz, barbershop, and more recently, trad pop.
My sister and I had this record as little kids in the 1970s and we loved it!
No one can do it like this guys!
A Sweet & romantic song.
Oh! Very Very Goood!
I M a care giver and the lady that am working with just remembered it and I got to CZcams to play it to her, and she is singing along and dancing with it
Love this song
I just loved these guys. They sang so cool!!!
I love this so much!!!
Masterpiece! :)

shit i just love that old sound. Not much today beats it!
VERY rare as there were only ever four brothers. One died in 1936 and the father (seen in video) took his place.
!HEARD LAZY RIVER ON JACK BENNY SHOW. LIKED IT😊😀😀
The guitarist is the great Cliff White. Mr. White was also Sam Cooke's guitarist. One amazing talent whom I was lucky to call friend.
Classy.
Smooth as silk.
It's excellent
Awesome
yeah brothers
Coo-lol! 😊
Qué lindo escucharlos. Excelentes los hermanos Mills.
Drink it in, it always goes down smooth (Ron Burgandy)
very rare w/ all 5 brothers GREAT.
Only two are the Mills Brothers here. Herbert and Donald on the left. The far right is the father.
the guy standing next to their father (second from right) is really good-looking!
also, i can't believe i dind't know about the mills brother earlier..
Check out some of their other videos and you will see that the "eye thing" is part of their style. Siblings tend to have physical cues like that jn common.
NICE
I believe Harry was in the Army at this time and a non-family member, the guy next to the Brothers' Dad, was brought into the group for a while.
came here to ask that-- what is his name do you know?
AnxiousCowboy From left to right, Herbert, Donald, Gene Smith (filling in for Harry), and John Sr. Plus Norman Brown as guitarist.
Still nothing to compare with them in the 23rd Century .
@JDPotok No, I meant the one next to Harry and John Mills Sr. Not the guitar player but next to John Mills Sr. I now know his name is Gene Smith and the guitar player is Norman Brown but thanks for answering my question.
Melloooooowww!
sublime
The best ,ever
♥♥♥
where did you get this from??? AWESOME!!!
👏🎶👏🎶👏🎶👏❤️🇧🇷
Harry was in the Army at this time so he was replaced by Gene Smith who was in The Four Notes in the late 40s for a while.
this song is awesome but the weirdness of that eye thing they're doing can't be understated.
I want to make live with these valiantly men in my song. I also want michael swoon through my bed dreams, he is soooo ratifying.
👍
See you soon dad.
Hail Denmark.
GOOD
This is very nice. Unless I am mistaken, Harry Mills is not in the group on this video.
RIP
ce soir , salle du gres, a martigue, des musiciens et des tas de chanteurs et chanteuses , en vrai ! Venez voir la fin du jour sur l eau ..
If anyone can tell me the names of the Mills Brothers, from left to right in the video above, it would mean a lot to me. I assume that's Harry singing the lead in the second verse, but which is Donald and Herbert. I guess that's John Sr over on the right singing bass, right?
Jim Nitti Herbert, Donald, Gene Smith ( filling in for Harry while he was in the service), and John Sr. Also Norman Brown on guitar.
You sure can tell where Dean Martin cop his singing style...
We came from this to RAP??
@PhillyC187 Interesting story, however, the title says that the group you see here in the video are in fact The Mills Brothers. The InkSpots are good too.
Who's the second to last on the right?
anyone know who's the guitarist is is it norman brown?
Wheres Harry at ?
What year would this be because it's on a 78 record
+Eckehardt krieger There's a range of years for 78s. IMDB says this short is dated 1944.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mills_Brothers_discography
did herbert mills ever sing??
Lots of ugly racist stereotypes here. But the wonderful talent of the Mills Brothers and the dancers still shines through.

+Kit Katzenschwartz wat?
sorry about that - i added my comment to the wrong video this isn't the Mills Bros video i meant to comment on (doh!)
What are they looking at?!
Where's Herry in that scan?
WW2--he was drafted
Who is that next to John Mills Sr.? That doesn't look like Harry.
sendoh873 Gene Smith. He was filling in for Harry while he was in the service.
Why wasn't Harry with the group at this point?
Harry was not there. Because he was serving at army for WW Ⅱ.
He was drafted in WWII
this was dean martins fav song btw

The lead singer looks Cajun. Just sayin'.
&?
Nothing, just an observation.
As great as this is it's just not the same without Harry, the non-family member is alright but he's no Harry motherfucking Mills.
Saying "motherfucking" really adds a sense of class and legitimacy to your opinion 🙄
I know right! My comment wouldn't have gotten anywhere close to those two likes without that "motherfucking" just thrown in there for seemingly no reason.
