  • DH explores an abandoned, arcane little hamlet in the woods of scenic Middlebury, CT. Legends speak of supernatural voices which drove a man made enough to construct a small village of homes for the fairy creatures which lived in the surrounding woods. In this segment, we investigate the main dwelling and the first fairy house.

    Originally called “The Fairy Village”, the site was actually a roadside attraction and ornamental garden along the very busy trolley line that ran from Waterbury, through Middlebury, and into Quassy Lake Resort from 1908 to 1929.

      So cool! He is walking on the trolley line and no need for fear at all....

    I was taken to this mysterious village when I was a very young child, talking late 70's and things happened there that are blocked from my memory but I have flashbacks

    I just recently revisited this page after finding an old email reply to my post. I can see people are still posting about the "throne" and the rumors that you will die 7 years after sitting in it. I sat in it back on 1982. I'm still here. The rumor is just nonsense and if someone did die after sitting in it, that's called the law of averages.

      Guess this "7-years-after-sitting-on-that-throne-you'll-die" legend is just pure nonsense!

    Do you think maybe the faeries relocated when they put up the high voltage power lines? Or maybe they all made the mistake of flying too close when they were trying to figure out what it was...

      @pookykay Před 8 lety

      +badhorseification Possible reason! They love nature and are very sensitive, those high voltage power lines are awful. =(

    Has anyone ever looked at 19th century plot maps? I'm thinking that this was someone's garden and was built in and around beautiful flower beds. Maybe there was a house nearby and this ground wasn't wooded. I think it is very beautiful as it stands now and is not creepy at all!

    Went there on Halloween night with my friends - god has to be like 1993 or 1994 now... crazy..was creepy that night. I won't forget it. Visited the site a couple more times over the years. Definitely a bizarre set of little houses and the "jail". We used to call it "The Land of the Little People" and "Gnome Village". LOL

      It's actually just called the village according to the gas station owner that built it as a tourist trap.

  • @pookykay
    @pookykay Před 8 lety +9

    Maybe the fairies wanted the people to build this village in order for the future generation (which is us) to believe they existed...just an idea.

    I have been to Holy Land many times. I went there when it was in its full glory in the 70s. I have also been to this site many times.
    The stories are blown way out of the reality of what the Little Peoples Village is.

    Thanks for being so accommodating. When I added my comments, I feared there might be a backlash. I love this place. I first went there at 16 years old and sat in the "throne.' The mystique around the place was utterly fascinating to me. In many ways, I wish I never found the truth about it. But in spite of that, it's still a weird place to visit. Word is that the land was sold and it may be gone soon, so get there quickly.
    How about a segment on Holy Land in Waterbury?

    Hi,
    I'm watching this video at work so I can't hear the volume, but I'm reading your pop-up comments. There is nothing sinister about this place. It's a remnant of Lake Quassapaug called "The Fairy Village." The main "house" was in fact a gift shop and the reason for the "mysterious" bars on the windows was to keep out vandals and thieves that would attempt to break in at night. For 20+ years I visited this place and only recently discovered its true origin, which is quite mundane.

      You're so right with this comment!
      After the first 5 minutes in the village I started to get headaches thank to his constant movements.
      For sure not connected to any silly legends.
      Only became dizzy and giddy cause I've tried to focus on these fascinating buildings but he's turning the cam around like crazy all the time.
      I'd make another video showing this little village clearly and slowly, if I'd have the big luck to live there. (Sadly I'm far away not even in the US but in Austria, Europe).
      I've also heard that this small village was part of a very beautiful garden with lots of flowers.
      But it's not mentioned anywhere cause this version of history isn't creepy and mysterious enough.

      There are dozens of little structures in the area but the ones in the video are the most intact. The woods are extremely thick and hide majority of the structures.

    Spot on, Dan. I tried to bring out the legends surrounding the place before rendering the final verdict on what it has been shown to be. I have to admit I did not know the reason for the bars. I appreciate the feedback and will include that information when I update the videos and webpage.
