People are not aware hot the sound engineering is important for a masterpiece like this. All these sounds were geniously designed, after the musicians played their best.
I think you're referring to mixing. Engineering is done live. They were working at Hansa Berlin around this time which has a superb room sound too , same place Bowie did Heroes. Magical!
This album and Let Love in, are my favorite Nick cave albums.
Amen
Your Funeral My Trial, Tender Prey and The Good Son for me. Plus Live Seeds (Albert Hall).
Blixa is sorely missed
I delt with a diagnosis of Schizophrenia for 14 years, recently had it changed to Schizoaffective Disorder; don't worry hun, it's not our head burnin'...We are warriors!
nick cave is one of the many artists who tried to gave another chance to the blues in their own sound and what a sound. i admire him
So true mate
Was fuc**ng amazing hearing this on 26th October at Hammersmith Apollo, one of my favoutrite 'dark' Nick Cave & TBS...A total murderous treat!!!
I was there too! Genius!'
Oh my God The Mercy Seat is just sublime.
+brendonwife listen to it on acid
+earinsound I did last week.
Really? That's great. I did 25 years ago. Was amazing
and I'm afraid I told a lie !
Yep. And who ever knew back then just how incredible it'd sound when played only on piano?
holy shit. i didnt listen to this album for years. i was into nick cave maybe 18 years ago. but still remember it, listening his stuff all the time. were kinda lonely times, because no one else did listen to him. so i was on another trip than the other people around me.
One day I was playing Alan Wake and "Up Jumped The Devil" . The rest is history. The guys a genius. Very interesting music. He pretty much created his own genre.
Slowly Goes The Night is my favorite "regret of love lost" tune ever. How can you beat a line like "I awoke in my boots and clothes."?
God I can't get enough of Mercy Seat
Whatever Nick touches turns into............ something I like
This is my first real listen of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. I have to say this album is a
good introduction.
His best.
Tender Prey is THE album where Nick Cave allegedly turned the corner. It begins with The Mercy Seat and does NOT let up. Yes , I understand that there were difficult moments making this album AND for some unknown reason, it did not sell well. Even its traditional British and Australian fans allegedly did not rush to purchase it. Nick Cave since about 1983 would easily top the alternative/independent charts in both England and Australia. This did NOT happen this time !!!!
I find Tender Prey interesting as in my opinion its the LAST album that has blatant Birthday Party influence. The next album - The Good Son - was ballad heavy and dare I say . . . radio friendly. The song - In The Ghetto - sees Nick tilt his hat to Elvis. The years between Tender Prey and The Good Son saw St Nick allegedly attempt his first rehabilitation to kick his habit. Tender Prey is a magnificent body of work.
His peak. I completely agree. 👍
Still my favorite Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album
the murder ballad are the one im most intrested in, but i do like a lot of these too...
I totally agree Christa. I was most spongiest when this tape was on continuous replay on the 'walkman' while avoiding people I both liked and didn't want to know (mostly all 1 group of people)
Watching Alice . . . has to be the most . . . . candidly . . . depraved song I have ever heard. . Personally . . . I recall the first time I heard it . . . . . I couldn't believe it. Nick perfectly captures the raw emotion. Many, many people say this that about their favourite artist . . . BUT in the case of Nick Cave. Saint Nick OR St Nick as he is known in Melbourne and Sydney truly captures the raw emotion. That is why St Nick is a word smith. His more than thorough command of the English language comes across his songs and albums.
My fave Cave record :)
Sunday's Slave is the best song of the album!
THIS is the desert-island Bad Seeds album. Perfect and essential. All the rest are gravy.
The first 4 songs are simply the most perfect things he's ever done. "Watching Alice" is so creepy it makes me want to wash myself!
Best album for sure
but after a while you change idea, you don't wash yourself and prefer to have a strong black coffee !
I have, among other gifts bhethroved at me, M-S. No bigy, for sure. For the uninytiated, read it or take it for granted, i.e multiple sklerosys. A year ago, laying for months motionless, paralyssed from the neck down, I Gathered currage to pleed with a staf of nurses to play me the Tender Pray album from my mobile, so I could listen to it, on my earphones. As the music began, something was a miss in the room, eight souls struck down with this progressive degenerative disease, were placed in eight beds. One young man was shouting, it was nothing but some suffering sample of white noise. During that episode our doctor came to see what is happening, and to check the remaining infamous seven. As he approached me it was still playing, the first track, Mercy Seat. The doctor overheard it. My M-D, prominent neurologist in the Balkans, The Mountain. His comment reads as it follows. Mercy Seat, Ha, I love Nick Cave and the bad seeds. That very track is, for me at least, the theme tune of these hallways of neverending pain.
Sincerely,...the other youngish man
Summer of 1989 i had a walkman and this casette
Classic album ,this sound so good with head phones on ,the sound bounces around
I don't listen this album enough.Reminds me of my youth, and l'm not afraid to die.🐯
the earliest album´s are the best one´s !! I simple love this track " Mercy seat ". Once i listen it without drums , Fabulous!!
Saves me the trouble of digging through my CD's.
Mercy is my favorite track of this album no matter how many times I listen to it it makes my skin crawl. So epic
The same...
Me paré en el agua
En pleno mes de invierno
Mi piel de camello era una tortura
Estaba en un estado de naturaleza
El viento, señor, era malvado
Estaba tan solo
Tal como lo predije
Mis seguidores se habían ido
Y grité "Misericordia
Ten piedad de mí
Y me puse de rodillas
Arrojado a un calabozo
Pan y agua era mi porción
La fe - mi única arma
Para descansar la legión del diablo
El agujero de la palabra se abriría
La voz de una víbora suplicaría
Espesa con la insinuación
La sífilis y la codicia
Y ella gritaba "Misericordia
Ten piedad de mí
Y le dije que se pusiera de rodillas
En un jardín lleno de rosas
Mis manos, atadas detrás de mí
Mi primo estaba haciendo milagros
Me preguntaba si me encontraría
La luna se volvió hacia mí
Como una bandeja de oro
Mi muerte, casi me aburre
Tan a menudo fue contada
Y lloré "Misericordia
Lloré misericordia por mí
Lloré "Misericordia
Ten piedad de mí
Hope that after 3 years the valium krisis is kaput, and the necessity is abundant . It is needed for listening to Mercy seat first and foremost, it unlocks all the funky little demons in us all, who dare to enter Nick's Cave?!?
His best album.
my favorite. all times
I haven´t heard it for ten years, a great album!
Yeeeeeah me too !!! Only a bit longer. But ohhhhhhhhhhhhh-weeeeeeeeeee, don’t it fell so good😅
Truly horrifying and deeply disturbing, often disconcerting, sickening, and painful to listen to... But oh man, this is art and a real rarity...
YES YES YES!!! The pain is our own yet it is shared by most of us. Mr cave and his bad seeds use the broken mirrored shards we cast off to reflect and focus back to us the pain and misery we are afriad to acknolage.😮 WHAT!
i`ve never heard this album before, and i get to love it

you gotta hear this on the awesome built-in monitor speakers... it's brilliant!
Super...
I'd like to apologise as well for giving thumbs up number 889.
I love that idea.
My favourite songwriter is Tom Waits though it changes without agreements or contradictions. late seventies young girls didn't like contradictions boys were in trouble then many of these girls smoked pot and now arena prison because of theirs drug use running out of control.
Album lançado no Brasil nos anos 80 pela finada estiletto eu tenho em vinil !
Darkest Shade of Blues.

I've read it. It's been my favorite novel for the past six months. There's nothing in the world like it.

Dan Hassard's comment "Melbourne classic" is like calling AC/DC "Perth recorded classic" cos Bon Scott lived round Freo.

WHO'S THAT DANCIN ON THE JAILHOUSE ROOF
destrucción nasal
720p for your ears?
I'm still okay, I just have mad cow disease !
sounds as if it was recorded in the basement of the local looney bin!
Sound quality is poor. 720p HD is information for video and has nothing to do with audio quality. All that matters is audio bitrate.
ahh heroin rocks,,,mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmm sweet dreams,,if Death does not claim you,,,i grew up with this stuff of cause heroin was part was part off that !!!!of cause jai;was paet off that,oo my what a fucked up life ive had,but I still walk among the living

He sounds at times like a cross between mick jagger and the male singer of the B52s.. sometimes he sounds out of tune.. but i guess its all part of the act.. an act out of some transylvanian castle cellar - clean horror!
