✹ Recipes ✹
→Gyro-Style Seitan
2 cups vital wheat gluten
1/3 cup chickpea flour
1/2 block extra-firm tofu
1 cup water
1 beef-style vegan bouillon cube
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon marjoram
1 teaspoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon tomato paste
Whisk together vital wheat gluten and chickpea flour.
Combine all other ingredients in a blender and process till smooth. Makes sure your liquids are room temperature or cool; hot liquid makes seitan harder to knead.
Combine wet and dry ingredients and knead until everything is well-incorporated and “dough” springs back to touch.
Shape into a long and wrap tightly with aluminum foil. Pressure cook in the instant pot, on the rack, with 1 inch of water for 30 minutes. Allow to release naturally. To make without an instant pot, steam for 1 hour, then transfer to 350 degree oven and bake for 30 minutes.
Seitan is easiest to slice if made ahead of time and allowed to cool completely. It will firm up considerably.
→ Tzatziki: You can follow any highly-rated tzatziki recipe on the internet and simply substitute in cashew cream, plain unsweetened vegan yogurt, or vegan sour cream for the Greek yogurt!
→ Pita bread
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour, divided
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup lukewarm water
1 packet active dry yeast
1 tablespoon olive oil
For instructions, I have a video from a few years back: • Homemade Pita Bread

This one's really long. 😂 I bit off a little more than I wanted to chew with the dinner plans, buuuut sometimes that's fun. 🥰 Have a great week!
I thought Eric was kidding about having heart surgery but now I’m pretty sure he’s serious. Hope everything goes well!!
On a lighter note - I loved this long video😍
I love how real your what eat in a day videos are! Also: we love a long video hahaha
Look guys; if you dont do an acoustic cover of the Guacamole song you're leaving your talent to waste.
Omg. I didn't even realize this video was 30 mins long until you said it was long in the outro. lol I love these style videos. They're so soothing to watch/listen to when I'm at work.
"One clove of, oh, pardon me, one HEAD of garlic" - the most on brand Sarah thing to say 😂
Also - a tip from a Mediterranean girl over here, you can 'grill' the eggplant straight on the stove top, just open fire. It's a little bit messy, but less time consuming than the grill. Plus you get that smoky flavor. That's how the grandmas do it here. Lots of love to you from Israel ❤ (we just had our 3rd election, your vid is honestly the bright spot in this depressing day 🤦♀️)
You’re comment’s so sweet! Nice tip about the stovetop grilling!
love this comment :) thanks for spreading your tips and advice! grandmas always know best. sending love from the U.S. to you
yessss we love a 35 minute vlog. i've been meaning to make my own "tofurky" slices for a while and now i'm reinspired!
You’re relationship is very sweet. I love watching you two. ❤️
Sarah, I am amazed that you made your entire dinner from scratch. You put so much love and time into your food. It's so inspiring. You are such a chef!
"You and I are the same, we are a unit" 😆 cute!
Lol, Eric is such a jokester and there's just moments when you're not having it Hhahaha. Love yall.
The opening song: "Guacamole Gua- Guacamole Gua- Guacamole "
Me: instant thumbsup.
Love watching you two being so happy and silly together! I grew up on “buttered noodles” and “buttered rice.” To me those were comfort foods. Still eat them that way today.
i love your what i eat in a day videos!! so many great meal ideas
Been loving these what I eat in a day videos!
👏🏻I’m impressed Sarah and inspired to make my own pita and seitan!
yay!!! I commented on one of your instagram posts a while back about missing gyros! so happy you did a video on it 💜 Amazing video like always sarah!
Can’t wait to try that seitan recipe. Thanks for always giving us meal inspirations ❤️
I loved this video! The dinner cook-a-long reminded me of your videos from a couple of years ago. I really enjoy watching you make these "more involved" recipes
These are my favorite kind of videos 💗
TEAM KETCHUP ON EVERYTHING!
Thank you for the seitan recipe! I've always been so intimidated by it and you made it look so easy!
Loved this video! The first time I saw you on CZcams it was a ‘cook with me’ video so I got nostalgic. I like it when Eric helps you in the kitchen too, it makes me happy to see you so cute and happy together 💛 By the way I will definitely be making this seitan, and if I’m feeling brave the pita bread too.
I love how chill this video is! I’d love to see some food hauls
I honestly love these videos. Totally realistic and relatable.
The way you chop things is so satisfying
Always happy to see a new video :)
You’re amazing Sarah ♥️
I’m down for Eric’s smoothie show hahaha. Also have you tried putting the garlic cloves in a mason jar? Shake them really hard and they peel themselves 🤩
I'm not usually committed enough for long format videos, but we've all got nothing but time these days, so it's nice to watch something longer than 10 min, and I really enjoyed it. I also made babaganoush this week because we had the grill out since my wife wanted to BBQ, and I definitely prefer the flame charred over oven baked when possible. Also, it's still way to cold to BBQ in Germany, but again... nothing but time. 🤷♀️
Loved this one, it's so nice to see you cook these amazing things! You always make me feel like cooking all day! :) Thanks for the recipes too, too bad I can't make the seitan or pita bread because I can't have gluten - but it's still so nice to watch and the other recipes are amazing too!
Also, you and Eric are just so lovely together. All the best for his upcoming surgery!
I love the rice paper bacon! I was so mad at myself for not trying it sooner!
I still need to try it!
I'm just wondering, would miso paste go well in the saitan in order to up the big U?
Either way, it looked soo good
“Baby kale a do do do do Baby kale a do do do”
Ketchup on fried rice is AMAZING!
I truly loved this video and need to make that dinner ASAP for me and the boyfriend! Really love the longer format ;)
Had dinner, watched this video, had to have a little bite. Loved the Gyros recipe! Eric loved your shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love these videos. the longer the better
I got those simple truth cookies a couple weeks ago and they're really good! It's in my freezer now but I'm resisting because of lent haha
love this right up my alley
drinking a protein shake straight outta the blender: “It’s fine, it’s great, I’m healthy” MOOD
omg i know what we are having for dinner now!!! yum
Love love love!!! I’m a brand new vegan and am loving seeing your what I eat videos!!
Girl, major props to you for making this video during shark week. That's dedication. Everything looked superrrr yummy, btw. Always have enjoyed your vids, Sarah.
I mix the Green Superfood powder with my matcha in my matcha lattes and it tastes pretty good!
loollll my family uses butter for EVERYTHING esp for sinangag (garlic fried rice) it’s the best with tocino!
Super fun to watch you two
I noticed a thing when you were making tzatziki and thought I might share: I once read an article about immigrants from Vietnam in Poland - polish people peel their vegetables towards them, while vietnamese people (asians in general maybe…?) peel away from them, so those immigrants would notice their children become more and more polish when they started peeling veggies "our" way. It's a thing that I always remember when holding a peeler and I wonder how true it is?
Sarah you need to come cook for me lol those Gyros looked amazing! 🤤
Haven’t eaten dinner yet, and that fried rice sounds like *heaven* to me right now. 😇
I made the chickwheat recipe seitan last week. It was better than I expected. I also make my own pita for when I make falafel. You can start the pita on the cast iron for maybe 30 seconds and finish it in the oven.
All the best with the heart surgery/battery change!
omg I didn't know you were filipino! queen!
and lol no, I'm pretty sure it's just your family who uses butter for garlic fried rice (sinangag)
Your tzatziki knife skills are on point 👌🏼👌🏼
I found the silk half & half at the 99 cent store today 😁 I cant wait to try it in my coffee.
You should do an updated video on all your supplements /vitamins 😊😊
It's winter here as well and I've always put my rising dough in front of the stand alone heater I keep in my den lol the oven thing sounds way better than sitting my dough on a stool a couple feet away from my heater hahaha
God that homemade dinner looks amazing 🤤 chef Sarah! 🌱
Making the Pita bread today!!
I just got that song out of my head the other day (it popped into my brain randomly after seeing avocados) and now it’s back again 😩
Omg, hope the surgery went well!💓
It's so comforting to see a what I wat in a day where a girl drinks alcocol and or coffe and promotes a healthy relationship with food. Thanks for being real!
As a Filipina, we always use butter for fried rice too!
Eric is so SMITTEN! 🤣 y'all are too cute.
I love the from scratch, long format style!
Guys lol lol lol, I almost died laughing at 30:38 when she said "Mmm. I love that."
I feel like since we come from similar backgrounds food wise, you’ll maybe know what I mean when I say that rice paper bacon tastes and feels like eating, disgustingly, the fatty part of fried short ribs. Please try it and let me know if this is so! Also, that garlic fried rice!! Takes me back!
I was definitely a little bit irrationally upset that you threw out that whole head of garlic over a bad clove 😂 but I've also worked on a farm and know how much of a pain garlic growing/harvesting/drying/braiding is 🙃 But I get it, when in doubt throw it out ✨
I love ketchup and rice, so good!
You guys are so cute together 😭
The Edgy Veg has a great Rice Paper Bacon recipe ... sooo good!
The edgyveg just made the rice paper bacon, it Looks decent. Also they have this new vegan bacon seasoning that would be perfect for the marinade. Ita called Deliciou's Bacon Seasoning🥓
BTW, the best hummus and baba ganoush that is store bought is the Falafel King brand at Natural Grocers.
I’m going to recreate your dinner it looks delicious
fellow filipino here and I LOVE that breakfast. Still eat it a few times a week !!
The Edgy Veg makes a great rice paper bacon... she made it in a video recently
Guyanese: scrambled egg and rice was my favorite meal.
Girl you must try the rice paper bacon. I saw Candace Hutchings, the edgy veg, do it a few years ago and tried it immediately. Watch one of her videos because she’s updated it several times but you will love this. It is so easy and delicious and really satisfying. Love your channel!
Please do a chat about having an iud and why it affected your digestion! I have one and have never heard of this.
Hey Sahzy, does the seitan have that ‘gluten’ taste?
Just saw Eric in Stevie T’s new video! So awesome to see you both doing such amazing things 😁💜
I super recommend trying the Mississippi Vegan tofu bacon sometime. There is a ton of oil and sodium in it but it is so freaking good and such a treat.
Have you tried washing the flour yet? I can't remember if you have done that in another video. Anyway, I know it's an extra step but if you buy the flour in bulk I'm wondering if it would save you a few trips. Of course it's a trade off. I know you like making your own staples. That's the only reason I brought it up. I'm so happy you made this video. I've been thinking of making gyros with seitan for a long time but I haven't tried it yet.
I used to always eat eggs and rice. I like my eggs soft so I would cook the rice and stir in raw eggs off the eat. The residual heat cooked them perfectly. Can’t wait to try it with my homemade, stevia-sweetened ketchup!
Yey love the longer video.. just wish Hawaii had kroger (&Trader Joe’s &sprouts)
I hate sweets, but when it's that time of the month, I gotta have my brownies. I feel you.
Been watching you for a little while would not even guess you were filipina, rice and egg for breakfast was also my childhood favorite with spam haha
Ya Sarah 😊😊 I love ❤️ your blogs
Have you tried any of Sauce Staches bacon recipes? I’d love to see you try some of those
i love the long form videos!! also as a chamorro person, i totally relate to eating fried rice for breakfast, except we always had spam in ours haha. i'm waiting for the day i find a good vegan spam substitute so i can make spam and titiyas, but i'm not so confident that's gonna happen 😂
The seitan recipe in the description says 1 teaspoon soy sauce then 2 teaspoons soy sauce. Is one of those meant to be liquid smoke?
Eric I hope your surgery goes okay!!! And idk if you can get it in the states but the Plant Pioneers bacon is incredible x
Any substitute for the vegan bouillon cube if I don't have that on hand?
100% try eating garlic rice, vegan egg, and beyond sausage all with ketchup!! It’ll bring you back to your childhood
You guys are adorable ❤
I can completely relate to the impulsive period buying. Currently snacking on vegan chocolate chips.
How long can you leave dough when rising? Could you make the morning then cook at night? Thank you 🙏🏻
Great content (as usual!) I enjoyed the longer vid. Sarah, I can't find the video where you made oatmeal with apples and dates...maybe it was overnight oatmeal??? Not sure. Please help!! I want to make it so bad! :)
Just realized this was a long time ago but I think you are back now.
I liked the video after the first second and then I liked it again 3 seconds later when the guacamole song played hahaha
Middle eastern here, nobody really roasts the eggplants on a grill when making babaghanoush at home!! We do the exact same you did and it turns out fine! Loving these casual what I eat/vlogs and love seeing eric as well, good luck getting your batteries replaced bud
