I remember when no one cared about these cars even after the 5th Gen ACRs release. It was confusing to see why a car with such amazing potential, and lineage being talked about so little.

Chrysler didnt fail in the Gas Crunch because they couldnt afford to build small cars, they were just late to the game, having not read the economic indicators correctly or they discounted the impending oil crisis...
in 1979 Lee Iacocca did NOT get a bailout from the United States. he and Chrysler got BANK LOANS and the US co-signed for them. big difference. BIG difference...
in 1997 Chrysler was NOT in a financial bind, that required the 'merger' with Daimler Benz. Chrysler held $9 BILLION (with a B) in cash reserves and had a winning lineup of cars and trucks. Bob Eaton the snake, sold us out (the company). Daimler was supposed to share technologies and open markets in Europe to Chrysler product but after they took the cash to prop up their failing performances (the car, train, truck, and other products) in Europe they refused to share. they then took control of some of Chrysler manufacturing and engineering and tightened the purse strings. ever seen the interior of a 2007-2010 CJD product? when there was no more meat on the bones, Chrysler was sold off to Cerberus the investment company that knew NOTHING about running a business let alone an auto business.
When Cerberus sold off or bought out enough people to put the company in dire straits, they unloaded the company nearly straight into bankruptcy. the Obama administration approved federal loans to Chrysler and GM, only after forcing GM to fire their CEO and requiring Chrysler to merge with Fiat. without those actions, Obama was right in bed with the senators who didnt want to help the companies out.
how do i know all of this? i lived it as an employee (except the 1979 loan GUARANTEES. i was in high school)...

I remember telling my Granny, Pappy, Mom, and anyone else who would listen to the "hey look what I did!" or "look at when I learned!" child. Most people would say "oh that's nice" and move on. I watched every episode of Viper. got into so many arguments with my sisters to get in front of the tv and catch my show and won out every time lol My first ride in one was when I was a sophomore in college at a random car meet I just happened to drive up on. There was a guy there with my favorite Gen, a solid red Gen 2 and I yelled immediately "NEXT!!!" when I realized that guy was giving rides. I almost pushed the girl standing next to me out of the way when he pulled up for another round. I got in and it was exhilarating. I had never heard that V10 in the flesh before and amazing isn't the best word to describe it. We hauled ass up the road 3rd 4th 5th gear pulling hard and I saw waaaaay up ahead a cop at a T intersection and signaled to the driver and before I knew it he swung her to the right on a side street faster than I could blink and pulled a 180 back up to the end of the street. We sat there and watched the cop slowly turn left and as soon as he was out of sight he gunned it again going faster than the way we came back to the mall parking lot. I'll never forget that. I even met John Hennessy that same year at HPE and saw the Legendary Yellow Venom 600 that was on every cover of the car magazines I read on a lift being serviced. He told me back then that he was planning to make his own car which turned out to be the first Venom GT. He's even got a tuner school you can attend that was new back then too. I still don't have my baby yet but I most certainly will. This dream Ill never give up on.

The ACR Viper was all about the ground effects for downforce, that’s what made it fast. The massive size tires didn’t hurt either. According to the car magazines it was hot, rode stiff, and was not very comfortable but it was fast around a track.

My first exposure to the Viper was in 1993 or 94 when I was a mechanic at Skip Barber Racing School. One of our customers had one and he would insist everyone drive it. He would leave the keys on the bar at the local watering hole so people could give it a test drive. We literally blew the canvas top off it. He admitted he didn't latch it correctly as he laughed about it. It was a wild ride.

As a kid, watched Motorweek every weekend and had a subscription to Motor Trend. By the time the Viper was unleashed, I was at my 1st job waiting for the opportunity to see one on the road. Then, on one day, I see one pull into a hardware store across the street. I abandoned my post temporarily, and ran across the 3lane busy street, just to catch a closer look. Later on, I made my way to the Dodge dealership in town, again, to examine and study this creature. I made impromptu measurements, roofline lower than my bellybutton, rear tires that spanned from fingertip to elbow, the headlight alignment/level which utilized an actual liquid level. The design was something, that to this day still evokes emotion in me. Built two scale models, one the roadster, the other, the GTS. This car is the the thing and fuel of dreams for me....

In Australia we drive RHD vehicles. The Viper was manufactured only in LHD. However, that fact did not stop a small Melbourne company performing the most amazing conversion on the RT10 and the GTS in the mid 1990’s. The company name was “Viperforance” . They did such a great job, Chrysler imported 30 RT10 & GTS cars for full Australian compliance conversion. The result was “better than the original factory LHD engineering!” A second Australian company named HSV also converted a number of Vipers for a private importer. I was lucky enough to own a a full compliance ‘95 RT10 in those days. It was a mongrel of a beast! The side pipes roasted the feet, the AC was useless, the wind buffeted about the cockpit like no tomorrow. I had to remove the rear glass to cut back the buffing a bit. If I had the rag top tucked away in the boot on any clear sunny day over 20C, I got nicely sunburnt and wind burnt at the same time. The tyres were deadly from a cold start and the 6 speed box automatically went from 1st to 3rd on cold starts. No door handles or exterior locks meant no parking anywhere outside after dark.
I flipped the RT10 for a 98 GTS. The AC worked great, no more wind or sunburn, no foot frying, no stuffing around with a rag top, and I could lock it safely. Did I mention the extra 50 HP also? At the end of the day, I loved the RT10, but it was simply to crude to endure for anything over 100km dry or wet. The GTS was by far a better more “refined” package for what it was. By the way, when I bought RT10 in 97. Import duties, exchange rates, freight and the RHD conversion costs pushed the purchase price to A$180,000. The new 98 GTS was around A$250,000.

It's safe to say that we'll never see a car shock the car industry like the Viper did back in '92.
These days so many cars have obnoxious performance numbers, but none of them make an impression like the Viper. The amount of Corvettes, Chargers, Challengers, Camaros, Teslas and Mustangs on the road make those cars seem very ordinary.
Vipers, on the other hand...you simply don't cross paths with too many of them. Production numbers for the entire existence of the Viper is lower than many cars make in a year.
    This adds to their mystique.

I grew up with this car. When the other kids dreamt of owning Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s, I dreamt about owning a Viper. From the first time I laid eyes on a Matchbox Viper my parents got me for Christmas to watching every single episode of the “Viper” TV show in the 90s lol. I absolutely fell in love with this car.
When I was 19, I got my first chance to actually ride in one. It was a silver, ‘99 RT/10, owned by my dad’s boss. When he found out that it was my childhood dream car, he invited me over to see it up close and take me for a ride. It was the first time I had truly seen one up close and could actually touch and sit in it.
When he took me for a ride, it was a feeling that I will never forget. He had supercharged his, and it made around 850HP, so it put the bar really high for my first Viper experience. But the force that pushed me back into the seat was absolutely incredible. It pushed me so far back into that seat, that I was going to have to be surgically removed. Then, just when I thought it could not get any better, he stopped in the middle of the road and backed onto a side street. I figured he was just turning around to go back to his house but instead of pulling out and heading back, he unbuckled his seat belt, looked at me, and asked me if I wanted to drive it. I nearly passed out.
I leaped from the passengers seat and jumped into the drivers seat before he could remember that he just handed the keys to his 8.0L supercharged V10, rear wheel drive, sports car with no traction control, to a 19 year old kid who daily drove a 2.4L 4 cylinder, Mitsubishi Eclipse…That day was one of the greatest days of my life.
Fast forward to last year…and my childhood dream has come true. I now own my childhood dream car. I will keep this car until I die when I will pass it on to my son. I have never liked another car more then the Viper. I know there are plenty of cars that are faster, or are more comfortable to drive, but the Viper will always be my absolute favorite car.

I just HAD to get a closer look so I walked right up to this masterpiece of engineered imagination. With black interior and a deep red shell, she promised to melt in my mouth and not in my hands... There are a few moments in life that truly make an impact .. the birth of a child... A fourth marriage (or was that fifth?).. even 9/11... And, yes, the first time I ever saw a Dodge Viper!

Gran Turismo came out when I was 13. Totally fell in love with the viper. I've owned numerous V8 mustangs and a charger scat pack. But the wait still continues for the Viper I will hopefully someday own

I love how the Viper is actually an MR instead of being an FR. A keen detail to why it handles so well. 👌 My dream car honestly.

Engine is still infront of the cockpit and with its weight being 52/48.
It's not MR, it's still a FR, you can say it's Front-Mid Engined but never a MR.

Yep it's FM, engine behind the center line of the front wheel hubs.

@@youngrody2386 You don't have be so uptight. I only simplified the meaning, saying MR only so you could grasp the idea of where the engine sits. Besides, I don't like typing out all the crap I'd have to say to please the likes of you. 😩

@@KingDeadMan Lmao what are you soo worth up over?
Anyways just call it FR, it's wildy agreed upon by everyone to avoid confusion, besides people find misusing already established terminology for near indistinguishable techinicalities misinformative.

I was 18 yrs old I always heard of the viper never saw one till one day it found me. I was driving my new C5 and an old man pulled up next to me in his Red and white GTS. I throttled my C5 and the GTS's exhaust was so loud I didn't even notice that the light turned green.

As a NERD I first learned about the Viper from Video Games (other than hearing the name occasionally.) Grand Tourismo specifically, where I thought it was a terrible car because I couldn't get it to go around the track (Brakes? Entry Speed? Those don't appeal to middle schoolers)

I still remember to this day, in 1995, I was 14 and visiting the Dodge dealership with my dad, who is trying to buy a family car (at the end, our family got Ford Taurus lol). Then, as a car kid/car guy, I immediately notice the Viper in the showroom, the iconic 3 triangle spoke wheel, and the "viper" headlights. I sit in the car and just relax for 5 minutes. To this day, Dodge Viper (1st gen) is still the Top 3 of my dream car list, even to this day 2023/May.

Saw a club driving through the keys late 2021. Hundreds of them. I drive a truck, went from Cudjoe Key up to Islamorada that day. Saw em for 50 miles. Loved it
