Mrs Beatrice Arthur, Rue McLanahan, and Estelle Getty, may you all rest in peace. Wonderful actrices who didn't get the respect they deserved in life. And may Mrs Betty White remain with us for a couple of years more.
The theme music was originally a 1978 chart hit by Andrew Gold -- but its E.L.O. styled vibe might've been why producers of the TV show hired Cynthia Fee to re-record it.
RIP Blanche. A lady always knows when it's time to leave. And when she does, the echo of her laughter, the scent of her perfume and the memories of her love, linger on. NEW YORK-Rue McClanahan, the Emmy-winning actress who brought the sexually liberated Southern belle Blanche Devereaux to life on the hit TV series "The Golden Girls," has died. She was 76.
The humour and writing are both classic and timesless. It's like Laurel and Hardy, people will be watching this show, laughing and loving it in one hundred years. To all the golden girls and other cast and crew that made it, thank u, and thank you for being a friend x x x x
I was at a girl's house for her birthday party one year and she had a piano at her house. Everyone asked if someone knew how to play and I was the only one who could..... So they put me on the spot and told me to play the birthday girl a song. I had a brain freeze and couldn't come up with anything when suddenly this song came to mind. I had a good laugh at first but thankfully this song is very easy to play and sing. I later realized I simply could have went with "Happy Birthday".
I remember I started watching this when I was eleven, I still watch it every now and then. I'm deeply sad to hear of Bea Arthurs death, I hope she rests in peace.
@STJL06 And Sophia was actually a few months younger than Dorthy. I didn't learn that til after the show. Estell Getty did a real good job of convincingly playing a much older woman.
i used to LOVE this show...i remember watching it with my mommy lol. matter of fact we used to watch the entire nbc line up: this, empty nest, and night court...yeah i go way back lol (i still watch golden girls repeats on lifetime too lol)
Never really watched the show that much, but my mom did so I seen it on TV quite a bit. I obviously knew who all four were. Just found out about Bea a few minutes ago, R.I.P.
Oh my gosh I just love this show I watch it all the time my friends don't understand why I watch the golden girls but thats because they don't know what true talent is!
I've always wondered why they never changed the main clip of Bea Arthur, especially since her hairstyle changed a few times. Even though Betty White's hairstyle didn't really change, they could have updated her photo.
I remember this intro from the first season, and I never saw it again until about a year ago. Is this one used on the DVD version of the first season? I had remembered the picture of Blanche that they used during her credit, but no one else seemed to remember it. I had forgotten that the title was shown over a different photo, though.
@illuminatioracle Bea was the center of the show. Everybody contributed much, and were all very important; but Bea was the facilitator that everything revolved around. I think the failure of Golden Palace without her proved that.
lol why must it be out version? i have saw every episode a gizillion times and I know for a fact that this is the original NBC theme that went out when the golden girls was on originally! This is it, if you watch it on lifetime then its just a syndicated version with extra clips and stuff
@loanme2dollarz i recognize that scene from the "break-in" episode of season 1, but i don't remember blanche doing that with her arm :P...deleted part? not sure
Did you see the Sex and the City parody that Bea Author was apart of a couple of years ago for The TV Land Awards. It was kinda sick with the ancient women; but funny. R.I.P Bea.
This is the only show I can watch over and over and I never get tired of it. Watching the intro now makes me almost cry since only Betty is left.
This show also made me so hungry. I wonder if there was an increase in cheesecake sales.
Crazy girl is still going.
Now she's gone to the last of the quartet
It Nearly made me cry
Best show ever all during quarantine who's watching and listening ❤❤???

NEW YORK-Rue McClanahan, the Emmy-winning actress who brought the sexually liberated Southern belle Blanche Devereaux to life on the hit TV series "The Golden Girls," has died. She was 76.
For years I thought I was the only one who remembered this version of the intro!
Thank you Bea for being a friend!

It's actually a song proper song by Andrew Gold from 1978. It's called Thank You For Being A Friend.
love the extended version, too!!
@STJL06 And Sophia was actually a few months younger than Dorthy.
I didn't learn that til after the show. Estell Getty did a real good job of convincingly playing a much older woman.
RIP Rue AKA Blanche watched the show since I was like 7

Just the other night they showed 11 episodes ! Love this show

good to know...
my mom said when she was a kid she would watch this every night
RIP Bea...and Estelle too
Who else is playing this on Betty White's 99th birthday? I'm doing it again next year for her 100th birthday.
@onkeymaytree She was actually younger than Bea (who played her daughter Dorthy) by a few months.
I've always wondered why they never changed the main clip of Bea Arthur, especially since her hairstyle changed a few times. Even though Betty White's hairstyle didn't really change, they could have updated her photo.
It's funny the way Dorothy stuffs her fist in her mouth at 0:11
the best show ever on TV!
on my TV too
I remember this intro from the first season, and I never saw it again until about a year ago. Is this one used on the DVD version of the first season? I had remembered the picture of Blanche that they used during her credit, but no one else seemed to remember it. I had forgotten that the title was shown over a different photo, though.
actually i remember this song as the opening the last time i seen the show in Canada
@illuminatioracle Bea was the center of the show. Everybody contributed much, and were all very important; but Bea was the facilitator that everything revolved around.
I think the failure of Golden Palace without her proved that.
RIP Rue McClanahan (Blanche) ... Betty White (Rose) now the only survivor.
*rolls eyes* suuuuuuuure lmao!
I fucking love Golden Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very beautiful and so nice...1985 to 1992🌹🌹🌹🌹
Asaad Abdullah wow it was on that long? i was born in 1990
What I always wondered was [even not in the pilot] they didn't have Coco even though he was supposed to be a main character ...
@Derriso1 She is. But one day, not soon we hope, the entire cast shall be reunited!
Love this :3
the problem is...it cames at night ~
at 2 o'clock ~
I LOVE BLANCH!!!
Betty White defeated the other Golden Girls and now she is THE ONE.
I meant that 5 out of 7 seasons were from the 80's
it sucks that bea arthur didn't win an emmy for her performance as The Cantina Barkeep in the Star Wars Holiday Special.
thaha. great name. :D
yes
Who the hell would click the dislike button? Seriously? Really?
Betty White RIP.
don't worry buddy, i'm the same way haha

lol why must it be out version? i have saw every episode a gizillion times and I know for a fact that this is the original NBC theme that went out when the golden girls was on originally! This is it, if you watch it on lifetime then its just a syndicated version with extra clips and stuff
Rip Estell
@loanme2dollarz i recognize that scene from the "break-in" episode of season 1, but i don't remember blanche doing that with her arm :P...deleted part? not sure
well you do know that its now on WE TV
and hallmark
It's on Hallmark Channel now. They bought the rights from Lifetime.
Did you see the Sex and the City parody that Bea Author was apart of a couple of years ago for The TV Land Awards.
It was kinda sick with the ancient women; but funny.

In real life Bea was one year older than Estelle, despite Estelle playing the mother of dorothy.
does anyone else think this is the greates show ever?
@STJL06 And Estelle Getty was younger than Betty White and Bea Arthur.
