You can tell this was a real passion project for the people who made it. I love the art direction they have taken for this. It feels so familiar yet, original in it’s own right.
Wasn't the original game advertised to be more open world, like I remember the character just like walking on a plane and then starting to run because enemies was chasing after him
Yeah I guess it'll have areas that are open but the world itself will have transitions like the map thing. Works for me, as long as the areas are decently sized at least :)
The reality is that as development continues, comprises are made and design changes happen which I’m sure this game has experienced throughout the years. Personally I’m in love with this game so far, it’s like toys come to life, or a pop up art book. Looks promising though !
To my knowledge the game always had separated areas rather than one big open world you could walk around, my guess is that the overworld was just the easiest solution to that approach.

I feel this game might be more like Nino Ku Ni 2 a big overworld map that you see little dolls crossing. Once there is an encounter you zoom in a closed semi open area. Exploitable towns and landscapes but nothing really fully open world aka Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider man, etc.
I'm sure there will be both small and large locations we can plop into and explore. I don't see any reason to assume that they've taken out what has been shown before.
I was almost certain this would be cancelled. Current state looks like they made significant cuts to finally get something done. NPC/environment interaction and linear overworld travel in particular seem barebones and might be substitutes for cut elements of a more sprawling initial concept. What gameplay is shown looks like botw-type ground/mounted combat, inventory management, and scripted encounters, each carried by the tilt shift aesthetics and lack of a HUD. Still not convinced there's much of a game here.
Me neither. It reminds me a bit of 90s JRPGs, with their overworlds map that had locations on them that you could explore properly. FF6 etc. But its component parts are all things I like: real-time combat, gorgeous art design, exploration...and originality, sweet, blessed originality.
its about a swordsman (Billie) and a professor Vincent, Vincent pays Billie to capture or kill monsters so Vincent can research them. It's a very cool game.
Great looking game, hopefully the open world aspect is free and open. I don't mind the Russian doll type thing, but I sincerely hope they give the impression of freedom to the best of it's ability.

Can someone please explain the map to me. Is that map what your forced to look at when traveling or will I have to choice to walk around on my own. For example will I have to ability to walk from the train to the old lady or am I going to be forced to stare at a map with a little toy following a path. If this is what I'm forced to do when traveling anywhere then this game isn't actually open world, and I'm kind of disappointed.
I think you can use the overworld as a faster travel system because it seemed as though you could just go back to normal view at the press of a button. At least I hope that how it'll play out!
Something doesn’t add up. In the previous trailers “Billie” was exploring on foot large deserts and snowy mountains. He even had a compass that was part of the gameplay design. Also was seen fighting and riding his donkey while being chased by a large group. Idk it almost feels like they given up on the open world free roam and went with NiNo Kuni style overlay. This feels like there is barely any exploration at all in real time and it’s just some dolls hopping across a map!!?
Personally, I'm not assuming that whatever was shown before is somehow out of the game now, despite there being an overworld map type of thing to increase the scope of the world we use to traverse between the bigger locations.

It would be talked about, and it isn't or hasn't been, and devs dropped off the map well after it was, and this is all there has been to see since then. Devs dont just hide stuff like that assuming you'll know.. they just literally showed you what they're offering now.

Why are people suddenly thinking that whatever was shown before has been taken out, since they showed an overworld map that ties the locations together to increase the scope of the world? It'd be absurd that the map would suddenly be the brunt of the game.
This game was announced back when the Wii U was a thing. I know game developers have a hard process but still. That long in development people lose interest.
Mainstream gamers will ignore this, which is unfortunate. This game is one of MANY examples of smaller teams making something absolutely magical. This Deserves to succeed. I can’t wait to play this!
This looks absolutely gorgeous and it’s entrancing. If the gameplay and storytelling stays fun throughout, will be one of my favorites for the year. The charm is outrageous.

Take as long as you need to develop this game and make it everything it's advertised to be because I so desperately want to play this game. I want more open-world mixed GENUINE survival/resource management exploration games. I want to get lost in a new world and discover all the things it has for me. The eldritch and normal horrors, the beauty, monsters, animals, treasures, ruins, friends, allies, enemies, weapons, equipment, collectables, Easter eggs etc.
I said it 1 year ago and repeat it now. This game was (and still is) a must try incoming for me, but we have been waiting for 7 years after recollecting $250k that they simply stole in front of our faces. Sony saved the game and still the developers dissapeared like nothing. What a dissapointment.
7 years of game dev time is certainly a lot but not unheard of - especially for a game like this that has a very small dev team. Given that they have a contract with sony the game will have to come out eventually so I wouldn't say that they stole the kickstarter money just because they haven't released it yet. I feel like people are being too harsh, but maybe i'm wrong
I agree for little devil inside but the rest of the show was very very poor. I try not to set expectations to high but it would of been better to announce those other games just as press releases. It makes picking up a ps5 last year a bit disappointing this Christmas.
The overland travel and shopkeeper are the only really new gameplay elements we haven't seen. Notice how we don't see the fight mechanics against the swimming pool monster or the railway automaton. Still feels like vapor, guys. The overland travel seems to be on coded routes instead of allowing travel everywhere. Why not? Lower MV speed over rough terrain and make the grass and trees bend away from the characters. You can prevent it from being a pixel-hunt by making the "correct" routes visually obvious, and make interesting sites visible on the map. I like the map looking like a crafted miniature tabletop, so the aesthetic is cool. You better finish this turkey before we hit PS6.

This isn't Playstation's game. It's by indie developer Neostream Interactive. Playstation is just publishing it/signed a deal for it.

The aesthetic of this game is very clean and gorgeous. I love the details. Could become a gem!
