Smithing and Shanties Part 2 - The Knife is Complete

Well, it's finally here me bully boys. The knife is finished and we are singing some more sea shanties while we work. In part two we are grinding the blade to a finished state before taping it up and applying the scales. I've been experimenting with surface conditioning belts which leave a very nice surface without having to spend hours hand sanding. On a project like this, that finish fits very well. the scales are a hybrid of epoxy resin and walnut with a g10 spacer between. The color comes from dyes and Micah powder additives which add both color and sparkle. To get that glossy finish on the resin, it was sanded to 2000 grit and then sprayed with a very light coating of clear gloss lacquer.

A fun anecdote for you all, while recording this song I mentioned to my father that it was based on the Derina Harvey Band rendition and found out that he had played with them on stage at the north country fair.
