The King. It’s cliché for older fans like me, to say “kids these days will never know”, but they really will never know what it was like growing up in the early/mid-90’s as a Man Utd fan, or even a football fan in general. Eric was the face of the Premier League for so many years, he was the main attraction. Aura, swagger, charisma, unmatched. No one player has had an impact on Man Utd like Eric, he was the catalyst for all our modern day success.
It’s wild to think SAF didn’t win a league title at United for 13 years without Eric. Barren from 1987-92, wins it back-to-back as soon as Eric arrives in 92/93 & 93/94, loses it in 94/95 when Eric’s banned, wins it back-to-back again when Eric returns 95/96 & 96/97, loses it when Eric retires in 1997/98.
And people don’t realise what a prolific goal creating machine Eric was. 150 G/A in 186 games for United. 120 G/A for United in 146 Premier League games. A G/A every 1.21 games, the 7th best ratio of all time in the Prem, ranked 1st best ratio for United in the Prem. And they were all match winners, match savers, Eric never stat padded, he scored big goals, goals to win titles, match winner in two FA Cup Finals. There’s legends, and there’s God figures, Eric is the latter, he sits at the top table with Sir Matt, Sir Alex, and The Trinity.

One of the best to grace the PL. it’s hard when you see modern players thrown around as world class and the best ever when players like cantona aren’t put in the same bracket. He was everything a player could be. Two feet, passes, crosses, great in the air, quick and his vision was second to none. And he could mix it with proper tough centre halves who used to be allowed to tackle unlike today’s lot. If we are defining world class its players like ERIC that should be right at the top of the list. He transcended the PL in so many ways and annoyingly so he changed man united forever. His foot print on that club should never be under estimated. Love this guy. King fu kicks, tantrums and all ❤

Cantona was more than a football player for Mancunians. He understood where the energy came from in the city, the youth, the music, the rebellion, the art, the creativity. It was all about freedom. He understood us, and we understood him. And for that, we all walked a little taller.

I had to look up his international career as you often hear people say he never quite did it and even flopped for France. 20 goals in 45 caps, which is almost averaging a goal every other game. 15th in the leading scorers and when you look at many of the names ahead of him on that list, he had already retired before their careers got started. So he was a lot higher for a number of years. Didn't play in a world cup, but was in Euro 92. I wouldn't say they're flop stats.
