  • The Nightwatchman is my own pattern, and a personal favourite for fishing in low light conditions: Dusk, dawn, nighttime and days with dark skies, rain and thunder. This version is tied mostly for pike and other large predators, but it is great streamer for trout as well.
    When the Nightwatchman is doing its rounds... things can get nasty :0)

    Hi Michael... I'm really enjoying your tying tutorials, it goes to show that words are not needed for good instruction! I like the way you show us the packaging of the material you're using next with a pause for a couple of secs. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!! :))

    Every time I start a muskie fly, I tell myself I won't stack so heavy. Then I end up stacking a fly like you've never seen before; I really need to stop that. Very nice fly, the illusion of bulk is there, no need for excessive materials.

      Thanks... I know that feeling of wanting to put more stuff on a fly - but you are right sometimes less is more. And a bulky fly can be a pain to cast, so I prefer getting the profile with as few materials as possible. Tight lines, Michael :0)

      Michael Jensen just a question, what material do you make you dubbing with? I make my dubbing with wool, and a couple kinds of artificials but yours look like wool, am i right ?

    • @MichaelJensensAngling
      @MichaelJensensAngling  Před 6 lety

      You are on the right track. My dubbing is made from super fine textured natural wool - spiced up with a bit of flashy synthetics. The precise recipe is my secret ;0)

    Beautiful fly. I think may be great for salmon, i´ll try .. thank you

  • @jeroenschoondergang5923

    Hi Michael, great fly. I really love black/purple pike flies and so do the pike in my area. Have you ever tried using a slicker comb for brushing out the dubbing head? I use them when I make brushes for flies and I started using one for 'untangling' dubbing heads. Works a treat!

    • @MichaelJensensAngling
      @MichaelJensensAngling  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Jeroen. That's a great idea. I actually use a pair of those for producing my dubbing, but I haven't tried them out for fly tying. Will do, though. Thanks for the tip. Cheers, Michael :0)

      Thanks a lot, Erik. I get my fly tying stuff from several Danish shops - most of them has webshops as well. Here is a link to a couple of shops, that probably has all the materials for this fly:

    I would love to fish it after Pike in shallow water. So you can see the Pike inhale the fly.

    it's too big for a 9 feet #8 fly rod? thanks

    • @MichaelJensensAngling
      @MichaelJensensAngling  Před 6 lety +1

      Billo, That should not be a problem. I mostly use a 9 ft #7 rod - and sometimes a 9 ft. #8 for this fly. Both handle it just fine. Tight lines, Michael
