I bought a pair of the Clifton 8s a week ago and have put around 40 miles on them. They are extremely comfortable at any pace, from a long, easy run, to fartlek, to strides. Most importantly for me, though, is that the pain I've had in my heels for the last 6 years (Haglund's deformity) has nearly completely resolved. After just one week. So I'm pretty excited. Your review corroborates everything I've experienced so far.
PS I live in Japan, where only the wide version of the shoe seems to be sold (many Japanese have a wide forefoot), and that works very well for me. Nice and roomy.
That's awesome to hear Randy, thanks for letting me know!
Glad to see Hoka didnât change too much to the Clifton. I may just get a pair or two of 7s on discount after the 8 drops, although I really dig that colorway...
That sounds like a good plan!!
I have the Clifton 8 and the Mach 4. They are a nice complement to each other. I actually feel the toe box is improved over the 7 slightly. I also really love the release color. I had to get it.
What do you prefer? Clifton 8 or mach 4
I have the 7 and looks like no major upgrade. The Clifton is great for daily trainer, long runs like marathon effort. I'm an average runner so Clifton and Torin are my go to on any race. Best value for every kilometers. For wide feet like me, I bought the 2E wide option and it's been true fit.
Yeah I think they have a good thing going and donât want to mess with it!
I've heard the 8 is a bit wider.
I was waiting for this one! Iâm on my third pair of Clifton 7, which followed a pair of the Clifton 6. Big fan of the Clifton, if you couldnât tell. I need a âdo it allâ shoe. Something for track workouts all the way to my long road runs. Fit is secure and I DID run my 10k PR in the 7 đ Iâm happy to see they didnât change much. This is a shoe youâll definitely get your money out of. 400+ miles is totally achievable. Loving the reviews and production. Keep it up, Ryan!
I just got my first pair of Hokas today and this is what I chose
I also bought this!
Got mine today love them way better then adidas boost
@@goat8252 yeah fr
How much you paid for it. I bought my bondi 7 hoka for about 72 usd
@@Bibard1905 when I bout them the retail was around 145 but I got a discount t on mine because I run highschool cross country so I picked up mine for about 120
Thank you for the review.
I love the Clifton 7 shoe. They are light and very comfortable. Recently the shoe got wet, and after that they started to squeak with every step I took. I found a video online that said to add baby powder inside the shoe, shake it, and then dispose of the extra powder. This tip made the squeaking sound go away. I will try not to get them wet again.
Great review, Ryan. Your style is smooth and authentic. Keep it up.
Thanks a lot, that is cool to hear!
Thanks for the video. Great sneakers. I think the best thing to do when getting a good running shoe is to visit a running store with staff who know which shoes would suit the runner and give the best recommendation. I am flat footed so I had to learn the hard way lol. Just subscribed to your channel buddy.
Comparing to the clifton 7, it sounds like it lost some stack height. Interesting choice by hoka. Personally I love the clifton but hoka needs to start innovating soon in foams/uppers because other brands have definitely caught up in tech. Most brands have a clifton like shoe in their line up so hoka's high cushion claim to fame is running out of steam
Ummmm ... no it's not. The cushioning is exceptional as is the overall comfort. So I have disagree with you. Sometimes newer stuff isn't always better.
The Clifton 7 (WIDE) is my absolute favorite runningshoe.
Even as wide, its a tight fit, but the fabric has enough give, that it just sits really good on the foot.
And it just makes my feet want to run :-)
Slow, fast, distance (50K) or short intervals, it does it all for me.
And unlike the Speedgoat, the midsole foam keeps its softness and elasticity in cold weather.
If the 8 builds just a little of "better" on top of the 7, it's a winner for me. If it still comes in wide...
Are the laces still absurdly long ?
Thanks for the review :-)
8 is supposed to be wider.
I've destroyed mine, wish I took some more care of them but they are some of the most versatile and comfortable shoes I've worn, really considering buying another pair
Just got my first pair of Hoka!! Cliffton 8, same colour. So excited to try them out! Thanks for the review!
Good choice! I think you'll like them!!
Great Review. Love the style and structure of the review. Will be picking up the Clifton 8 when it drops. Have ran in version 1, 5 pairs of the 3's, the 4's and 5's, and even the reboot of the original plus the Clifton edge. I would have to say that the Clifton is the shoe that if you only had a budget for one shoe to do many things, this would be money well spent.
Nice, sounds like you are really familiar with the Clifton!! Iâm sure youâll like this one too! đ
I bought a pair for recovery runs and walks, and had the chance to run in the rain today, I'm surprised that even though there's so little rubber and mostly foam, the rubber had some grip that prevented slipping. However under 50 miles and the rubber is starting to wear :( not so on my Asics Gel Nimbus which started wearing down around 200 miles. These 2 imo are the plushiest cushiest in the market without being too thick and unstable. I still prefer the Nimbus overall for superior shock absorption (past ankle injury).
This Hoka shoe really cought my attention. Real sexy shoe. Probably the best looking running shoe out right now.
Thanks for the great review! I thought that the Clifton 8 would had been my ideal shoe. Everything from HOKA feels perfect (bondi/ speedboat/ rincon) Every time I try the Clifton though, I get this intense arch-poking sensation as if itâs a stability shoe! What am I missing? Doesnât it bother runners with no feet and stride issues?
I have a good pair of Clif 6. Bought another pair on Ebay, but one foot that that ball in my instep. Got rid of them, but my other 6s never did that.
I thought I was the only one itâs like the side of my shoe is poking the arch of my foot. And I have a high arch btw.
You smashed it Bro!! Great quality!
I was waiting for this one. đ
Heyyyyy thanks!
Bought these 12/22/22! I plan to test these walking and move up from there. I dislocated my right knee and want to protect it in running. đ
Getting ready to get a pair of the 9's. Ive been experiencing knee pain after running lately. Been rocking a cheap pair of under armor shoes for a few years and i think its time to go for somethng with some real quality
Thanks for the review. I haven't tried a Hoka yet and I've always been eyeing the Clifton line if ever it comes to a point that I'll purchase my first ever pair.
Nice! The Clifton is a great place to start!
It's my everyday shoe. I have the clifton from 2 to 7. They are so comfortable.
Hi Ryan! great review.....
Clifton 8 vs Mach 4? What should I pick? Are they comparable?
Great review. Just subbed!
Just ordered a pair!
Your vids are awesome. I think this might be my first Hoka since Clifton 5.
Thank you Blixten!! Good luck, these are a great pick!
I love my Clifton 7's!!!!!
thanks, very informative review
Glad it was helpful!
Nice review. I got over 400 out of my last pair of Clifton 6's so think you're spot on with your estimate. Used it for most of my runs last summer. Definitely not my first choice for speed days now that I've added to the rotation but do love how the Cliftons baby the feet.
Awesome, good to hear the range is about right!! Thanks!
400 what? Miles or days?
Great Review !!!! I never owed a pair of Hoka s But these Definitely may be my First !!!! LOVE THE BABY BLUE COLOR ON THESEđŻđđđđđđ
NIce! The Clifton is the best place to start when getting your first Hoka!
Oh my oh my! Previously, I have been a Skechers devotee but recently I discovered the Hoka Clifton 7. Limoooousine's for the feet, I love 'em. Move over Skechers, I gotta add Hoka to my line up! Yesterday, since I needed a combo light trail and road shoe, I got the Hoka Challenger ATR 6. Woohoo! I love that one too. A number of reviewers poo poo this style of pull tab, even mocking it by calling it an "Elf ear." Huh? I like pull tabs and I prefer this style to the loop where you have trouble inserting your finger in the loop!!! I have a double AA narrow foot so when reviewer talk about anything narrow, I say---hooray!!! The Clifton 7 is my 1st Hoka and I am sure it is a great place to start. I have no need for speed. I am a 64 year old 180lb. Clydesdale. Just subscribed.
I LOVED the Maxroad Ultra 3, but Skechers blew it w/ their dorky v4 and 5. For SOME reason, they didn't know what they had.
Thanks for the review
I love the Clifton's, I felt like the Clifton 6 was perfection and the 7 was very slightly narrower. It's not a big drawback, like you say you get used to it but can't do my laces too tight or I do sometimes get a numb foot. I will likely get the 8 but tempted to look at the Mach 4 as well
I do my Clifton 6 where it'll barely tie being so loose. Works well. Heard the 8 is a bit wider.
I might be too heavy for the shoe. I wanted it for work, standing a lot. The heel is mushy and I felt like I was standing of a metal pipe from outsole to insole. Very odd. I'm taking it back.
I love my Clifton 8's, I just started back running, and I must say they are the most comfortable runners I've ever had. I started in the Nike Epic React; they were okay, but still a lot of foot pain (just walking). I then switched to the Nike Winflow 7; too stiff and caused a lot of foot pain. The Hoka 8 is the key. I haven't tried the Nike Invincible just yet, but I have them in my closet.
I still have my Clifton 2 with 400 hundred miles. I hope it will last another year so I don't have to get the latest Clifton next year. They are great show.
I got rid of my Nike React soon after getting it. Ball in arch instep. I'm SO interested in the Invincible, but hear it's a bit unstable.
Do they run bigger than usual size? Or no? I bought my bf a pair as a surprise and idk if theyâll fit him to big đ„
I love my Cliftons, but Iâm also an aspiring runner. You mentioned that they may not be the best for hitting PBâs and such. My current Hokaâs are about 300k in, and Iâm considering what to get next. Is there any other shoe in the Hoka range, or other brands, which you would recommend as an alternative? To get a little more performance, while still maintaining the stability and cushioning? Maybe Iâll just stick with Clifton haha, but just wondering.
Hoka Arahi 5
Iâm really torn on Hoka Clifton 8s vs brooks trace 2 or brooks anthem 6
I can't wait for the Clifton 7 to go on sale going to buy two pairs . It looks like they didn't change much so why buy the new shoe .
The 7âs have been 50% off here in Bangkok for about a month now... woohoo!
Went on mark down today!
I went to my local store 2 days ago here in TX and it was still $130.00 i didn't see any sale yet!
@@seekfactsnotfiction9056 try the hoka site. It's on sale for $104
@@johnresto1603 Thnx I ordered the wide size this morning for that same price $104 @ runningwarehouse! (W/free shipping!) I hope yhe wide turns out fit coz i heard they were narrow!
thanks Ryan, definitely better feedback than for the Mach4?
Yeah, definitely more enjoyable and well rounded for me!
Best shoes I ever had
Saucony endorphin shift 3 and this. Which one is better . Kindly help
I have some Clifton 6s that I use for my recovery/easy runs. Pull tab, no elf flare.
Nice!!
Just picked up a pair of Clifton 8s today, thanks for confirming my choice. Great review.
hi @ryan clayton is this suitable for high or low arch foot runners for clifton 8 or arahi 6 or other brands? im using a nike flyknit which suits my current foot but will replace it soon as I need to find a long distance running shoe and speed session. appreciate your response all the way from philippines.
Howâs this shoe on light trails? I mainly run on the road but on some of my regular routes thereâs some gravel paths or public footpaths.
Can you put grams beside in next shoe reviews pls? Thank you!
Thatâs a good idea, I can try to do that!
I bought a pair of these and they made MY foot bleed, there is a section of rubber in the foot arch area that sticks up and pushes on the inner arch and actually cut into my skin and sock both feet, No! I have normal width feet đą
Just bought the Clifton 8s Iâll let you know :)
That's awesome, good luck!
Hi there. I'm doing a 50 mile ultra on tarmac this year. Do you think this would be good for it. Thanks.
Which is better this hoka clifton 8 or the asics nova blast 2 for daily walking ?
Which is the best Hoka for running on pavement?
Thank you
Could you do a 50 mile road ultra in this . Thanks
@RyanClayton please can you make a video on the asics noosa 13 they're available in two colours please can you test them out
They are advertised as size AW22 is that a wide fit?
I run my first marathon with Asics Nimbus 22 but now it's heavy for me. Would you suggest Clifton 8 for my second, faster marathon? I plan to run it in 4:15 minutes.
I find the Clifton 6 has better cushioning than my Nimbus 22. The 22 was the best Nimbus in 5 yrs, but I reach for the Clifton WAY more.
Hey can i use this shoe as a daily wear shoe like college to home and etc
Is Hoka clifton 8 sizing same as Nike?
About to consider HOKA now, do you recommend Mach 4 or wait for Clifton 8?
For your first Hoka I would say wait for the Clifton 8, much better first one in my opinion. đ
Men i have size 28 cm and width, what size should i buy?
Can i use this shoe for fast running for 5k in 17 min
Does this shoe have the arch bite that is notorious in the clifton shoes? I can't wear most cliftons for this reason and was wondering if they changed it in this model. Tons of reddit threads about it giving people nasty blisters. I have a wide foot so maybe that factors into it. Its basically the upper part of the midsole digging into the arch of the foot.
Try the Gaviota model, much more gentle to flat footed fellows, like me.
What about the arch fit?
The intro music need to be much louder.
Hey I wanted to know if I should go for the wide one? What do you recommend? I wear the pegasus 37 normal ones as of now
If you like the width of the nike Pegasus you will probably want to go with the wide here. These are more narrow
8 is supposed to be wider than 7, and the 7 is mildly snug.
But this version where can I buy!!??? And when!!!!
June 1st everywhere!!
Clifton 7 vs Clifton 8?
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because the Hoka Clifton is not as good as it used to be. Each new version is made more narrow and doesn't have as much toe room. I have flat feet and bunions and I love a lot of toe room. The Hoka Clifton 3's were the best shoe and it's been downhill from there. The Clifton 8's are too tight on the bunions and not enough toe room. You get a bit more toe room with the wides however it's too loose everywhere else. Regular and wide versions are both too big in the heel and my heels kept slipping out. I love the cushion of the Hoka's so I'm increasingly disappointed with Hoka and their slimmer (less inclusive) designs. Just another instance of running shoe companies fixing things that aren't broken. Their current colors leave a lot to be desired as well.
Literally looks like the Clifton 7
I'm use to ASICS shoes for running, usually the cumulus range.
Would you recommend these 8's over ASICS?
With close eyes go for HoKa Clifton 8.
@@Advanceagriculture232 I've taken delivery of the Hoka 8's. Only had a brief walk in them. Hopefully going for a run this evening.
My concern with them is the foam segments under foot. Surely these will wear down very quickly???
@@NazSBG hope so you will receive it soon.
No they are superb inside. You can change the insole after sometime. While beneath the sole there is hard surface on it.
@@NazSBG what was the price in your area?
@@Advanceagriculture232 I'm in England. Got them from Hoka official site for ÂŁ77 plus ÂŁ3 postage. I've their 14 day try and returns policy (30 days if they weren't in sale). They're reduced from ÂŁ130.
Whatâs more comfortable. The Clifton series or bondi?
Comfort is tricky because itâs subjective and has to do with how the whole shoe feels on your foot. If youâre asking about cushion, the Bondi has moređ
@@RyanClaytonFilms thanks for the reply bud! Happy running! Much love from Hawaii đ€đœ Iâm currently running in brooks ghost 13âs and definitely want to give hoka a try
@@AyeItsXander ohh I wish I was in Hawaii right now!! Probably no snow there đ
@@RyanClaytonFilms haha no snow at all only on the top of the big island. Iâm on Oahu đ€đœ take care đđœ
Hi Ryan .How does it compares with the Clifton 7?
7s are a tad narrower while 8s a tad bit roomier in the toebox other than that, not much of a difference.
@@felixbruno7937 That's what I've heard.
Clifton 7âs went on markdown today
Oh nice!
What is the name of the song on intro?

Not sure about that, but these are coming out june 1st!
This is very exciting. I love these reviews! đ
