Purchased the new Kala ubass in cream. Purchased a tortoise shell pick guard from the man you gave me the name of. He is great. Changed to flat wound strings and now ready to go. What is interesting is that I’m having to create new muscle memory to play it. The strings are just further enough apart, as compared to my Fanner, to throw me off. Something I didn’t even realize when getting a new bass. Just FYI.
Shout out for Bass Direct!!! Luckily they are local to me and have always been super helpful with both ubass & suitable amplification as I have progressed.
I have one of those tiny Guild fretless 4 string basses that came out with the rubber strings.. I never had a lot of success with the strings I’d like to put some flat wounds on it..
@@UkuleleWales lol thats one of the good and bad things that comes with asd. also can you do a website review of a site called chordify. it uses ai to figger out chords of songs on youtube but it makes you figger out the strum pattern

I recieved the same black 5-string from Thomann a week ago. Definitely BEADG strings.
I will be doing a video shortly but 3 of us (the shop, the distributor and myself) all seem to think it is a high C but we’ll see.

What scale is the Guild bass? Kala do make flat wounds for piezo pickups but there are a couple of different sizes.

Bearing in mind that some guys believe only a 35” scale can work with a low B I can’t believe a low B speaks on these instruments.
I have that 5-string with a low B. It works, but you won't be playing any clangy metal riffs with it. The overtones and the attack just isn't there.
Agree, I love seeing the face of a “non believer” when they hear the sound first time. 😉
