The Suunto Zoop Novo has the same timer feature in the gauge mode as the old vytec had.

I use the Suunto Zoop Novo (I used to that is) in gauge mode similar to how you describe. I don’t use it however anymore and typically have two Shearwaters. I have dove however recently with just my brain, a depth gauge and my Casio watch as a bottom timer!

Got a Perdix because Petrel was too big. Don’t see why I should go back to a watch and a bottomtimer. Perdix is easy to read no matter the conditions also nice to get a confirmation from the computer to what I planned ahead.

I also use a Perdix but I put 1 in Gauge mode and 1 as a computer, I dive the plan with the Gauge, the computer is backup/confirmation.

    Greetings.
If you only need a bottom timer with depth gauge, any computer will be overkill. Having said that, I use two Shearwater, a Perdix as a main and a Teric as a backup, and I can track the run time and a separate stopwatch on both.
    Safe diving.

scubapro aladin sport in gauge mode. gives you current depth, runtime and a stopwatch that you can reset by pressing a single button and has seconds. plus you can change the battery. so should tick all your boxes 😉.

I like the DeepBlu. It is white that I can make whitebalancing. The strap is big to use with a drysuit and just on the wrist. Charging via USB. Don't use it as bottom timer. What I love is the easy downloading of profiles and that is synching with the time stamp of your pictures, showing where in the dive which picture was taken. I bought it some years ago for 200 €, looks like it is more expensive now.
Just read the manual, it got a secondary time
"In addition to depth, temperature and dive time, your COSMIQ+ will also keep track
of average depth and a secondary time. These values are useful to monitor staged
dives, for example where you need to make decompression stops. You can reset the
average depth and secondary time at any time by pressing the ADJUST button."
That may be what you mentioned?

I had one , think there is even a video about it. Lasted 10 dives and died. 2nd one lasted 8 dives. :-(

@@CoastalDevelopment oh wow. Mine is running like a charm since 3 years. It is the older version, not the newest.

Heinrichs Weikamp Bottomtimer is exactly what you're after! Plus it's not too too painfully expensive, 300EUR

Well, I hate to say it, but HeinrichsWeikamp Bottomtimer is, a freaking overkill, but it would be what you need. I would lend you mine for a trial. Interested?Greetings from Graz

    Divesoft freedom?
    "Start stopwatch
This starts the timer. If the stopwatch was previously halted then the count continues from the indicated time.
The stopwatch can be set to the bottom button control, short press to pause/start, long press to reset and straight start."

I know it does that in computer mode
but in gauge mode monitoring O2 sensors it just flicks through the screens 😞

Shearwater Peregrine might be a good shout (mid price dive computer that can be put in gauge mode, resettable stopwatch and rechargeable). My dad had the same issue with his arms being too short… a peregrine and prescription mask sorted the issue

    Hey Achim,
have you had the chance to look into freediving computers? The ones I know all show seconds and depth. Downside might be that they are mostly watch style with a small display, so might be a bit harder to read for you. Cressi Drake, Mares smart apnea or Omer Mistral might be a good starting point.
    Cheers
    David

    Hi Achim,
almost all of the newer vypers and novo's has the timer function in gauge mode.
Off the top of my head, i do not remember if my vyper air shows avg depth, but will check next time.

I must be dumb, cause why would you use a bottom timer instead of a computer?
Want to be conservative, mares puck pro
Want to dive aggressively, use a Shearwater
Most people are shit at mathematics, why risk an error in calculations?
