The Sumerian invented the concept of time, they invented the system of 60 seconds, 60 minutes, 24hours, 12 months. Their language was like no other. They invented the word freedom. (amargi) The sumerians invented trigonometry and a better one then we use today. (Plimpton 322) They knew about the heliocentric solar system. Interestingly they were the first to depict angels. Sumerians were the first to make a map. We owe the sumerians many things.
    * edit, the second was not invented by the Sumerians.

Egypt has been a focus mainly because of the Rosetta Stone, we can actually read and understand their texts, in full, there is way more we understand about Egypt, and at the same time we have so many questions. Looking too far into Sumerian history would lead to pure speculation, due to the absence of some of their history, what history we have studied about them seems to have reached an apex.
Egypt still has mind blowing discoveries to uncover... Like "How old is the Leo Sphinx?" It looks like we could have been wrong about certain timelines, by thousands of years.
There are also great libraries we still haven't found, with one such library possibly underneath the Leo Sphinx it 'self. Geo readings in that area suggest so, also we know that Sphinx's had hidden chambers. Unfortunately, the Egyptian government won't allow archaeologists to dig there, however, the government have been digging up "water pipes" in that very area.
If they find something, I hope they share it with the rest of the world.

Sumer was a unique and innovative culture, a culture of many firsts, no doubt, but human culture has existed exponentially longer than civilization. Stone age cultures had technologies which is why we classify them by Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic and Chalcolithic. They are the first WE KNOW OF to do X, Y, Z. Presumably meant to signify societal status/importance. A similar practice is observed in the art of other cultures; it’s easier to convey the importance or power of a figure like a king or hero or God by making them larger in depictions. I.e. Egyptian pharaohs are usually depicted larger than their subjects.
The “watch” like wrist adornment is just that: jewelry. But it’s not a watch. It’s more like a bracelet, and the “clock” face is actually a flower presumably meant to represent fertility.

The ancient Sumerian civilization, according to Andre Marie, was forgotten, not even mentioned in the Bible texts. Thus, when the French archaeologists brought to light the monuments of the Sumerians but also the coins which bore the Cretan bull, statuettes and amphorae of Minoan Cretan style, in the second half of the 19th century, the European world was puzzled by the depth of time of this civilization. and was impressed by the perfection of the artistic creations, which had been created at the end of the 3rd millennium BC. in centers such as Lagas or Grasso, whose every trace had been erased from history.

@@descendedofrigvedicclans2216 The Akkadians, Sumerians and Assyrians were three different cultures that lived in that area of Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia was the region and sometimes it was dominated by one group of people. For example the Sumerians were probably the earliest people to occupy the Mesopotamian region possibly going back millennia even more than 3000 years BC!!. Their culture was most advanced in the third millennia BC with the exception of the Egyptian empire. Then the Akkadians came in and displace the Sumerians and they were eventually replaced by another group of people. After 2000 BC it became increasingly difficult to keep track of the many different people's that occupied the Mesopotamian region. It is a fascinating history and fortunately there are a lot of good videos on CZcams about these different groups.
And a word of caution. Some channels get a lot of the details and times wrong when these various people became most influential and dominant. Consequently I check out several different sources over time and you begin to see who is competent and who isn't.

    • @Gilgamechasaur
      @Gilgamechasaur Před 4 lety +3

There could always be a dissenting opinion, or even some difference of opinion about what civilisation is.
We have a sort of proto-city in Catal Huyuk in Turkey. That one is really interesting. It was a town of about 3,000 people. I'm trying to remember the details. Buildings were squarish shaped and tightly packed together. No streets, but they surrounded an open area used for refuse. Entrances were actually on the roof. No doors on ground level. There was early agriculture, and a lot of iconography surrounding bulls.
Then there's Jericho in Palestine, one of the world's oldest continually inhabited sites. I don't know much about that one.
At the same time a couple cultures in ancient China would have also been developing agriculture...
I'm pretty sure none of them were as sophisticated as the Sumerians at the time though. As the video explains, they were a culture of firsts. As to why, the narrative usually goes; is that agriculture required irrigiation in the region. Irrigation required organisation and division of labour. This leads to cities. Cities leads to trade, leads to accounting which needs numbers. numbers leads to writing. Which leads to records. And there you have a recognisable civilisation that's almost modern.
Some of their influence can be seen in the bible, particularly the flood narrative. Also they profoundly influenced the Greeks. For example, the planet associated with the goddess of love and war, Innana, is the planet we know of as Venus today, the goddess of love, and that's no accident.
I'm pretty interested in Sumer, and pretty angry it's been coopted by nutjob conspiracy theorists influenced by Zechariah Sitchin's dubious translations.

The development of the things that are mentioned in this video would take hundreds of years, at least, yet there is no physical evidence of stages of development, only a fully formed culture that included much of the core elements of modern society. The answer as to why is what archaeologists should be searching for, the possibilities are intriguing.

Since the first Sumerian signs of writing preceded the Minoan culture by a 1000 years if there is any similarities between the two it is because the Minoan culture adopted some of the language through contact with the Sumerians or another group nearby.
In addition to that language that Sumerians spoke is unlike any other language in the area which include of course the Minoans. The Cuniform script developed by the Sumerians was also picked up the Akkadians who conquered the Sumerians about 2270 bc again well before any sign of Linear b appeared.

There is some controversy about the early history of the Sumerian people. The earliest known settlements in Mesopotamia were in 6500BC as stated, but the statement that it ended in 4100 BCE is categorically false as I have seen several sources that state otherwise. In fact the Sumerian culture reached its highest form in the 3rd milennia. There were eventually overcome by the Akkadians in about 2400 BCE. The Sumerians enjoyed a brief renaissance in 2100 BCE, but this only last for a century or so. The Cuniform was still used in religious text until 100 BCE almost 2000 years later!!
And that early Cuniform writing wasn't developed until later in the 3rd milennia BCE. It began with pictographs similar to Egyptian hieroglyphics. The pictographs evolved into Cuniform in the late 3rd milennia. At least that is the dates of the earliest tablets of Cuniform of which there were thousands as the Sumerians kept comprehensive records.

The Sumerians were the original Chinese. They used pictograms and ideograms which was resembled by the ancient chinese picto ideo grams. Ug Sag Gi Ga by which they called themselves were actually a four-word chinese expression pronounced wu sau ji ga and meaning literally black -head-of(used reversely)-family = a family of black-haired people. The pronunciation in turn showed they spoke Cantonese or cantonese-like language.

The Sumerians are Kushite Ethiopians who were the ancestors of Abraham. They were subjegated under Nimrod. This is often overlooked by scientists because they don't want to reveal their African origin and manufacture the idea that Mesopotamia or ancient Sumerian civilization was founded by Semite white people in order to accommodate the white ancestry of European Jews.

The Akkadians have nothing to do with the Sumerian Akkadians, who came from the Arabian Peninsula 200 BC. The Assyrians, Sumerians and Medes are historical companions of Mesopotamia. The founder of the Assyrian civilization is Ashur, the son of Sam, the son of Noah. The founder of the Sumerian civilization is Nimrod, the son of Ham, the son of Noah. A year to 7000 years ago, according to the Kurds, their names appeared in the Sumerian records as Koten, and their names appeared in the Greek records as Cardo, and then the name “Kurd” came, where the Kurdish national anthem indicates that the Kurds are the descendants of Mead and Khosrow. It is in material origin, the third son of Yafeth, the son of Noah, peace be upon him, and the last king of Khusrau, whom the Arabs call Taq Khosrau. In the construction of the Sumerian civilization, there is a record in the name of the king of the Kutians who ruled the Sumerian barn and also the Kash dynasty that ruled the Sumerian civilization is also contributed to the building of the Sumerian civilization
