  • A 1-1 draw at Bournemouth for Newcastle, but it wasn't the best performance, was it? For me, I can see two glaring changes that would improve the side. Also, what did Eddie Howe say when I suggested playing Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon together? It's not what you would maybe think!

Weather folk think it's a good law or not, it is the law, so no goal.
Their goalie was MOTM we tested him seriously half a dozen times, I think over the whole game on chances it was a fair result. Add, the subs did play well, but they are coming on we are chasing the game and we are pushing forward, and a bit of credit to Bournemouth who are a decent team, we can't always get our own way, but we did not start on the front foot and that was disappointing. We only really came alive when it was desperate states and we had to push forward, we finished strongly and in the end a point was a fair result away from HOME. HWTL.

We've been terrible so far this year. There’s been a complete lack of energy, no pressure on the ball, and zero composure when in possession. We’ve also been tactically one-dimensional. Last week’s game against Southampton was a prime example-we were overrun in midfield, and Howe didn’t make the necessary changes to adapt. He sticks rigidly to the 4-3-3 formation and is slow to make substitutions. Right now, it feels like we're watching Steve Bruce football all over again. Changes should have been made at halftime today. Longstaff’s first touch is always in the direction of the pass, which is basic football; he’s not Premier League material. I love Murphy, but his first touch often gets away from him too. Trippier must stay and start, as should Barnes. Anyone but Longstaff should be in central midfield. I don’t understand Howe’s obsession with having centre-halves play on the side that matches their dominant foot. Just put Kelly in at centre-back and let Hall play left-back.

My guess is the reason Eddie doesn’t want to do the obvious and play Gordon on the right and Barnes on the left is that he doesn’t want to upset Gordon because he’s worried that given half a chance, Eales will cash in on him, and Gordon wants to play in the position where he stands the best chance of playing for England, which is not right wing. Maybe after the window closes Eddie will feel a it more confident about selection. At the moment he’s walking on eggshells.

directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper. can’t post the diagram here but it is a very small section of the shoulder that isn’t an offence and you basically draw a line horizontal line from your armpit. Suppose they could enforce the kit sleeve being a different colour from the armpit but doesn’t come enough to do that!

There is tons of talent out there cheap and who are absolutely brilliant, Brighton, Brentford and Fkn palace have shown how it’s done but because them players haven’t got British passports it means Eddie Howe doesn’t want to know, he wants the club to go and spend £65M on 1 position then in May he will come out crying about PSR. I absolutely despise this manager now, I want him gone. Semenyo cost Bournemouth £10M and we are being told we can’t get a right winger? We could literally get 2 top players for £65M but because of Eddie and his NEED for British overpriced players, it’s preventing us from buying young, cheap, exciting players with sell on value.
There is ZERO sell on value in a £65M defender. Mitchell should be ashamed of himself for this window.

Poor rest of first half and first 20 mins of second half. We showed far better desire and using the ball when Barnes , Hall, Tripps came on. Big Joe had a nightmare , Bruno not much better dwelling far too long on the ball. Kelly had a poor game. Team selection was an error. Must do better next match. Eales and Mitchell sort out this transfer window. It’s obvious where we need the big money spent, RW as priority with a CB if cash left over. I don’t have confidence it will get sorted this window, we have been a shambles in our entire June PSR and summer transfer window. The panic fire sale approach to Gordon will have peed Anthony off, does not seem to have any leadership steering the activity.

The front three seem too disconnected, often playing too far apart, which limits our attacking options. There's too much hesitation and sideways passing, and not enough forward momentum. Our back line was shockingly vulnerable, and the lack of a creative CAM left a glaring gap in the middle behind the striker. Frankly, we looked worse than poor, and it's becoming a pattern to only push forward after falling behind. It's frustrating because it feels like we're regressing, losing the style and identity that once defined us.

Hey Craig. Try putting your right hand on your left arm where you think the ball hit. Then lift your left arm up and down and if your right hand moves then it's handball, if it barely moves then it's not (as you'll be above the armpit so almost on the shoulder as per the FA rule book). For me it hits the bicep area. This whole sleeve line thing seems to be some new fangled myth of a way of describing where it's allowed to hit. What if you're wearing long sleeves can it hit anywhere down to the wrist. Maybe they should all wear vests!! I reckon all these pundits saying it should have stood would be arguing different if it was their club it was against. If we'd scored a goal like that and had it chalked off I'd understand and if it was allowed I'd be thinking we got lucky.

Hall's dynamism down the flank offered some width from full back which allowed Barnes the space - Gordon was isolated all game when he played down the left, it didn't help he kept cutting in meaning we had no width all game as Murphy was shackled to RB for some reason. There are serious issues on and off the pitch for me. On the pitch the players are lacklustre and lacking in ideas going forward. We look like we have no idea how to break teams down and are missing the intensity and desire that was associated with us. It honestly feels like we have lost all fear factor and style of play and are relying on our star players - essentially Bruno, Isak and Gordon to create something. 2 seasons ago it felt like it did not matter who we were taking in and out of the team because the intensity and style of play was the same. We scored bags of goals last season and we are struggling to create clear cut chances against the likes of Southampton and Bournemouth this season. There were plenty of moments last season where we just looked so easy to play against despite scoring goals and it is more of the same so far. I don’t think you can provide any excuses such as Euros/Copa hangovers as most of the teams above us have entire teams of international players and are winning games comfortably. At some point Howe does have to be questioned. He had a tough season last year with the fixtures and injuries. But he still made some decisions that baffled us as fans and seemingly continues to do the same things every week e.g. playing players who aren’t good enough, only making subs at 65 mins. It looks like he’s tried to focus on tightening the defence after conceding so many last year but the actual patterns of play and attacking creativity have gone out the window. Like I say, I think Howe and Tindall need to start being questioned. It seems that most of the fanbase feel we owe him loyalty. He’s had our complete backing for 3 years now and he’s done a good job. He’s actually done too good of a job because I imagine his remit was to secure us as a top 10 maybe top 8 club. He got us into the CL and a cup final. For that we will be eternally grateful. But it appears there are limitations to his management and if we truly want to be competing at the top of the game then something has to change. For me, I would be looking at a successor to Howe as a decision will have to be made at some point. Playing like this we will not secure CL with the amount of teams around us looking to compete for that too. With the number of good teams and well-run clubs in the league now, if you aren’t taking huge strides forwards you are losing ground which I feel we have.
That brings me to off the pitch. I do think the club are making the correct moves in terms of restructuring the management above Howe. The best clubs have a solid structure so that there’s consistency across managers and players etc. Brighton are the best example of that. And I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt having had a lot of change and demands made of them in a relatively short space of time. Having said that this transfer window has been shocking. We’ve got more goalkeepers than we know what to do with and there is still talk of Trafford being signed. We haven’t sold well nor signed anyone of worthy note and are seemingly being bent over a barrel by Parish in this Guehi saga - a player who I rate but is not worth £70m, although at this point I would take any signing that will give us a bit of excitement. The whole PSR firesale nonsense has had several repercussions. Selling Anderson and especially Minteh was a bigger loss than people are realising. Gordon looks like his head has been turned and now we’ve got a player who at the moment looks like a shadow of himself on the pitch. We still haven’t strengthened in the right places and are beholden to Howe’s blind loyalty in players such as Longstaff and Murphy. Instead of just putting the best 11 players out on the pitch - especially as Barnes for example had a full preseason and looks up for it. I would love to be optimistic but I just can’t be based off of the ongoings at the club since the end of last season and the start we’ve had so far, albeit we have managed to somehow get a win and a draw. I hope I’m wrong but every time I see us play or in some sort of media story, my feelings are reinforced.
