Excellent story. I'm friends with a lady raised in beaverdale. They are descendants of Jacob DibertI was fortunate to read some of her written family stories. Jacob had done another prediction that came true also. Coincidentally Jacob was taken prisoner of war and died in a prison camp a sad ending to a gifted person. Allison krouse made a song about the lost children.
I reached out to Allison to garner permit for use of her song. The amount of money and copyright request were more than she has ever made in her career and left a bad taste in my mouth.
Her name is Butch Dibert and Im her Great Grandson
@JasonHoffman. I'm from Beaverdale.
I grew up in Beaverdale, 9 miles east of Pavia on Rt 869. Bob's Creek was one of my favorite fishing streams (and my Dad's). In April of 1962, at the age of 5, I caught my first trout in the stream that runs along side the monument. My Dad took me there because 1, it was stocked, and 2, it was so small he felt it was a good place for me to start fishing. What a great find and great story, Scott. You gave it it's due justice, telling it as it had been passed down over the years and how we heard it growing up. Thank you.
I thought this one was gonna be simple. Simple story, simple analogous outcome of obvious facts, simple structure, simple visit... and then when I was telling the story the overwhelming emotions of what I perceive (but have nothing more than contextual evidence) as a horror above horrors to what happened to those kids caused me to have to re-record the story several times as I recomposed myself. Sometimes is sucks to be human.
We've been to this site a number of times. So sad! Glad they are being remembered!
This site is being VERY well taken care of... which is great to see. Time will take it back, eventually, but for now it is safe.
You’re such a good story teller. As a relatively new Pennsylvanian I appreciate all the lore you’ve shared.
Pennsylvania probably has the largest amount of forgotten history, even though it was one of the first places in the US when it all started.
Soooo good.
I stumbled upon this story. Being from Altoona, as a kid, I had to listen.
My wife and I, both from Altoona, plan on visiting this site next time we
visit from Florida.
Interesting story.
Thank you.

So on the third night a farm at the top of Spruce Hollow, occupied by an older widowed woman, she told the searchers she had heard the children crying. The small group of searchers, near nightfall, looked in a small perimeter. They left to get more searchers. I think that was a mistake.
The information I provided OR the stopping the search to get more people?
This was a lovely production. Thank you.
Many thanks!
Ok, 2 stories to tell, one first hand and one told to me by a friend who was there.
In 2000, 3 of my friends and myself hiked back into the monument one night because we were in the area and had nothing better to do since snipes weren't in season. We had 2 high powered flashlights and headed down the trail. We walked around the monument, each reading the panels together and moving around the monument together. When we came to the 4th side, we all saw a sad child's face behind the inscription. When the second light was shined on the inscription it faded back away.
2nd story a group of girls were out in one's mom's car and decided to play with a quigi board and drove to the monument. As they sat and had a quite unremarkable time an icy fog rolled in and they decided to pack it up and go home. In the morning the girls were awoken by the car's owner asking why the car was covered with mud. When they went outside the car had kid's muddy hand prints all over the car, one large and one small.
That's crazy.
I will say one thing... there was NOTHING out there. I mean... NOTHING. No Birds, No Squirrels, No trace of ANY animals. No scratches, no rubs, no woodpecker holes. It was a very weird and sad quiet... except for the wind. The wife and I talked about that a lot on the ride home. When we went less than a quarter mile down the road to the CCC sign... there was life EVERYWHERE.
Whoa! Spooky. Eeery.
ODDySEEy That just gave me chills
Love your channel! I have been researching this story for 15 years. Great video!!!!
I thought it would be a simple and easy one to do. Then I buried myself in hours and hours of research. Then there were the tangential stories of the situation. Then there was the finding of the site... the coldness... the eerie quiet... the wind going in the wrong direction... and the feeling up the nape of my neck as I told the story on the site. It was a somber and difficult story to tell when I got there.
What a wonderful video. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to film this.
My pleasure... it was quite an adventure.
Incredibly well researched and presented. You've gained a subscriber. Impressive!
Thank you and WELCOME TO THE ODDySEEy
Wow. Thank you for telling this story.
My pleasure!
Just found your site. grew up in the Hollidaysburg area along the Juniata, Love history, knew of the Cox Children, Etna Furnace and other stories. Looking forward to reading all. Thank You
I will keep bringing you more... but... don't be afraid to tell me of any that you know of :D Even if I have it or heard of it... I am finding there are more secrets that NOT in Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, and Cambria. AND... if you find a good one that I can validate that is NOT on my list... maybe you can do a guest appearance :D
Father's side of family from Holidaysburg, Juniata, Roaring Springs & Martinsburg ( as well as Pittsburg & Bethlehem). Heard stories of relatives, kids taken by Indians & never seen again. Old newspaper articles about it. The Stocks & the Murrays.
Thanks for this video. I’ve always wanted to know more about this story.
That is my goal. Whenever I hear about these sites or see them on the side of the road... I cannot fight the curiosity to learn WHY IS IT THERE.
@@ODDySEEy I’ve seen the signs for the monument but never visited the site. I know one of the Diberts who was married to a Whysong - very common names in the area.
Is the location of the Cox home known? I saw you posted a (historic?) photograph. Wondering how far it was from the location of the monument. It would be interesting to use the new science of "Terrain Based Probability Models for SAR - Mountain Rescue" to see if it matches up with where their body's were found.
Just as the dark arts are mentioned at 6:40 there is odd movement in the shadows behind your left shoulder. Perhaps just leaves and the wind.
This is a great question. The monument is an easy find, just difficult to get to without a rugged vehicle. The Cox plot is UNKNOWN. At least from a paperwork standpoint. I did a lot of digging into the archives and couldn't find any location of where they would have been.
And yes, leaves and wind at 6:40...BUT... up until that point in the hollow there was NO MOVEMENT of anything except water. In my actual recording I had to stop at that point and did a look around. My wife and I giggled and then I went back to recording. All because I am a scientist doesn't mean I don't WANT to believe. ;) (like Fox Mulder in xfiles).
I was there today 3/19/24. Three huge trees have fallen across the trail just prior to the white information sign at the monument. No damage to the actual monument. However, it is challenging to walk up the hillside around the uprooted rootball. Older people and strollers would have a problem. Someone started on cutting up the huge tree’s.
It is an extremely strange Holler.
I went looking for it today. Went up through Smith Corner. I'm pretty sure I was on the right road. A few more signs would be helpful :) Great video by the way !
There is actually a small parking area at the head of the trail.
So weird, was just watching your train wreck video on Benny's Curve. Thought Gallitzen sounded familiar. Looked up haunted tunnels & lady in white. Afterward this vid of yours popped up! 👻 love your stories thanks
ENJOY!
Great Story Sir..
Many many thanks
Grew up close to that area, still love this video scott
I just went back to watch it and see if the "ghost" fans comments about when the wind blows was accurate, or the shadow behind me... LOL... just like Duffy's Cut, when talking about the dead the Crows went CRAZY.
Nice video. Like many other commenters I to am local to the area. Ive been there at night and found nothing out of the ordinary.
Thanks for sharing
Another great story
Thanks again!
Such a sad story. My heart breaks for them
It actually took me several "retakes" to tell the story because of the emotional aspects.
JACOBS DREAM ALL ABOUT IT.. GOOD JOB ON THE VIDEO!
Thanks Justin. CZcams would not permit your link to Alison's song. It is a violation within other channels. Additionally, Allison's record label would not give permit to use the song or it would have been in the video. ;)
enthralling.
One of my four "emotional" videos. But alas, I did not express what I actually think took place. Let's just say, Epstein did not kill himself.
@@ODDySEEy Ahoy fellow traveler! Good tidings! GREAT JOY!
This is extremely agonizing because I really want to go here, and I live fairly close by. I just don’t have time, and neither does my dad. Tragic story.
I am not a shrink by any means, but my life lessons have taught me, take care of your kids, your parents, your siblings, your spouse, and yourself. That is where time, no matter what is going on in your life, should be spent. The rest is fluff. ;)

Hi Scott …. Have you ever read The History of the Jones Juniata Valley?? Wow you want the best stories of our valley this is an amazing read by Uriah James Jones and reprint Floyd Hoenstien♥️♥️♥️
Will search for it.
Great story. I love Pa history.
Me too!
I wish I could get in contact with you and tell you all I know from the Cox family and Diberts.
In the "About" section of this Channel you can find my email. :)
From 1:28 to 1:40 I heard some tiny footsteps
You can also hear it from 8:20 to 8:37 !
😱
6:15 my jaw dropped…… that’s just terrible
LOL... gonna cut up a chicken, spread the blood around, and the direction it points MUST be where the children are. Dude, those who get so deep into religious and cultural beliefs scare the living crap out of me. I have my upbringing in religion and my culture is old Irish... but even I know not to go LOOKING FOR A LEPRECHAUN or chasing a rainbow. This story was soooo sad (emotionally) on so many accounts. And the family of the man who I think the killer is believe he was a frickin Angel.
@@ODDySEEy shits definitely insane for real. I can’t even imagine lol
Thanks for your videos! One thing "panther" and "mountain lion" are two words for the same animal, which probably has more names than any other. Rest assured they will be back in PA soon (I predict by 2025.). Thanks again, so much interesting history in PA.
Cool, thanks
my1st thought would be wildcats
I think something more devious took place... like pleasure island.
As someone native to the area it's sad to say but local teenagers often disgrace the monument as there is talks of a curse and is rumored that doing anything dishonoring there will lead to misfortune upon you such as a car accident or great illness.
It is sad that none of the adults of the local area step up to give education on the site if there is that much of an issue with local teens disgracing the monument.
How far away from the house were they found?
I really Love America
I hope if I have friends there
I do not know where you are from oudimohamed497, but America has its share of lovers and haters... most of us love/like everyone who visits from far away lands.
@@ODDySEEy I blame God that I'm not born in America
Anyways I'm from the country of Pyramids
I'm from Egypt
You should do a video on Livermore pa
You mean Conemaugh Lake... LOL. It is on my list ;)
@@ODDySEEy sweet excited to see the video
Another place I'd recommend checking out is mcgees mills covered bridge in mcgees mills right off pa 286 by pa 36
Have you heard of Kinzua Bridge and the ruins of Austin Dam?
You mean this video czcams.com/video/qVFEEMTNIjI/video.html and this video czcams.com/video/ek5smOPgyns/video.html ?
@@ODDySEEy Yes
you know i leave like 7 minuts away from this place and there was a murder up there
Did not know that, do you have more info on this murder? Nothing showing up in the archives.
@@ODDySEEy i heard it from a few of my friends who lives very close to the monument
How far from home were the children? How far had they wandered?
Less than a mile
Jesus Loves You
Yep :)
I’ve been there. At night. It’s a creepy place.
It was creepy during the day, LOL.
keith morrison of youtube
I had to look him up. I can see how you would attach his demeanor to me. Nice jab. :P
She led them out of money lol
Now that I have done 3 different death videos from the times of yore, I realize that in ALL OF THEM, the person reporting the criminal activity is ALWAYS the main suspect! It is mind boggling.
