We make these videos to show those who may want to hire us that we do know what we are doing, so much so as to be transparent in the applications Via CZcams. Thus, all can depend on us for sound advice and workmanship.
Were using regular Portland stucco mixed with three times the sand per every one part stucco. For example, for every one hundred pounds of cement stucco, 300 pounds of sand are added to the mix.
Or, for smaller jobs, buy "Rapid Set Stucco" from Home Depot or Lowes.
It has the sand already in the box or bag. You add water and apply.

Howdy Orange Man, thank you. Just another day at the office for us. 😉

My man worked all day slinging stucco in a button down dress shirt and finished the day with the shirt looking as clean as when he started.

Most folks don’t realize stucco has lye in it, which burns our skin on contact, I do, thus the clean shirt. 😉

True story, my grandpa stuccoed for 40 yrs here in Florida, he’s 95 still alive, still sharp. My dad started at 19 with him, he’s now 67 and still stuccoing. And no I don’t stucco for a living 😂
I've been applying stucco for over 45 years and still love it. It's fun for me, but definitely not for everyone. That's a good story, my friend. Why does Mike Tyson still fight? For the same reason I still plaster, it's fun for him plus hes' damned good at it.
Amen to that sir.

So many great things from this Video. First off the explanation of unused muscles resonated with me big time. So true. Hulk/Popeye arms!! Only plasters relate🤙🏻. I loved the hell out of you saying "Not!" Dude, I have not heard that since the 90's!!
I'm personally glad you explained the "activate Blood hound stucco sense" and found where the concrete met the transition. Bonding agent..yada yada.

Hi Danny, LOL

You are the Sensei Master of stucco Mr. Giordano. lol Well done indeed Sir. I am a B General Contractor and have seen and/or sub-contracted a lot of stucco work over the years. Just last week I hired a local competitor to do a patch job in Hayward; (A small $500 job that evolved into a larger $10K job) they mentioned your youtube channel as their main resource for upgrading their skill set. And yes, they did an amazing job. lol Training the competition?
We have no competition, in fact we refer many of our fellow plasterers. I have always believed there room enough for many plasterers willing to put the time in. Cheers.
@@StuccoPlastering Well that is a healthy perspective indeed. And I agree, there is plenty of work for all those who would put in the time; and even more for those who master their craft. Cheers!

finding people to hire for this type work around here is slim pickings
Anyway great video Kirk thanks for all the tips
It’s slim pickings in most trades to find someone highly skilled that enjoys their work. We’re blessed in this department as we see our jobs as a paid way to stay in shape. What a country for one with the right mindset.😉
I use to use 24 inch marshalltown
It’s the size of bloody snowboard
And yes 14 inc is the perfect size for rendering

Howdy my fellow plasterer. I use the Curry 20 by 5 swim pool short shank. Curry stopped making the 14, 16 and 18 inch ones. Bummer as I had about 7 of them stolen back a few months ago, when the thugs stole my truck. The drag was they were specific tools that only we use.
@@StuccoPlastering
Sorry to heard that
Hope karma get them one day
Great respect to you and your family many don’t appreciate how hard and difficult plastering is
When you started putting it back Kirk was uppercutting that stucco onto the wall haha
Just like curling with weights, it’s a bit easier.
Hey Kirk. Thanks for all the great videos. I have a question for ya. I stuccoed a cmu wall in our back yard this weekend with an acrylic product. The color is a little too dark. How do I prep the wall so I can go over it with a lighter color? Im planning on using the same product just a lighter tint. Thanks bro!
Howdy Matt a better solution is to use Stuc-o-flex’s Renew paint with the color you want, and simply roll it out. That would last as long as the acrylic itself. To prep any wall for an acrylic, you first use the primer associated with the acrylic finish, then apply the finish coat. Did you do this the first time? If not this may be why the color change? Cheers.
Another banger😁 Keep it up fellas, thank you and your family for putting this content out. It is the kind of stuff I miss from older This Old House episodes. Youre the norm abrams of stucco😃.
Is it the shifting of the house and sudden temperature changes that wreak the most havok on stucco? Or is the initial application of the stucco the biggest deciding factor on the durability? Thanks!
Howdy Dinkly, in our area, the temperature does not play such a big part. Stucco is mainly affected by settling and vibrations, such as slamming large wooden front doors. There is much more to mention here. Thank you for the comment.
You are the best.
Thank you.
Hey Kirk, I want to apply stucco ( 2" thick) on a smooth concrete basement wall. How should I prime the smooth concrete wall to receive the scratch, brown and finish. Looking for a modern concrete finish look. thank you so much! Big fan !
Hi Alex, pressure wash the wall then apply weld-Crete bonding agent, then apply Rapid set stucco from Home Depot or Lowe’s. All you do is add water and apply. The sand is already in the bags or box’s .
Kirk did u put tape or mesh tape in this clip?? So from the old stucco tape for the seem and new stucco?? Im getting pretty good at this uaing your technique s Kirk thank you so much🙏👍😎
Hey Joe, no fiberglass mesh tape was necessary instead we pressure washed the wall and applied the blue bonding agent, this we did in the original video, Jason my son the camera guy and stucco contractor also decided not to include this as he tries to keep the videos as short as possible. However this being said one can see the heavy blue color on the surface prior to our application. I guess that depends on weather viewing on a phone versus a computer.
Hey Kirk good plan ...up here in the great white north we just grind the finish off down to the scratch coat or brown coat ..then we bond and recap or restucco the wall ...5$ a sq ft.. n ...Bob's yr uncle ..but of course Canada doesn't have strict stucco code !
We just plaster right over the old stuff in Sask unless it's a painted or acrylic finish.
Are there different stuccos for different purposes such as finishing/texture coat vs base or scratch coat? Ive noticed some stucco feels smooth while others feel like they have more sand/grit
Of course, there are many different stuccos. Too many to name here.
the most impressive of this Master work is the Construction Warrior is wearing an impecable, unpolluted white shirt, and remains white.
Good morning my friend, I like your style, thank you 😉

Can you recommend an honest and good stucco guy here in Southern California? It's hard to find a good, honest and reliable stucco person. Thank you.
I recommend you google “Plastering contractors” in your area. This may help you decide.
This search may also bring up “Yelp.” Theirs is a paid subscription, so their reviews may be biased. This means that if you’re a paid subscriber, any negative reviews will be last or hidden, while if you’re not a member, negative reviews may be placed higher when inquiries are looked for.
There’s nothing illegal with this method of advertising as it’s the way the world now operates.
Or try Google, too, as they are not biased, and the reviews are at no charge.
Hopefully, with the help of both review apps, you will find the best fit for your needs.
If you’re still unsure, ask to view their completed jobs or repairs and, if possible, speak directly with their past clients. Best wishes, Kirk Giordano plastering.

Howdy Fishing Dude, year we got beat up on the removal and killed to much suction, thus we would have benefited by a scratch coat then taking a 30 minute break. But nooooo, we kept going and lost a bucket full, the stuff we were using had to be chucked as it can’t be reused. Shit happens, good news them boys are so strong they can carry buckets all day long.😉
damn I want to join this team and learn
Finally found a Comments Section that wasn't shitting on a guys work. It looked great to me but still expected to see crappy comments. Nice job.
You've said a very smooth finish will eventually form cracks, does that hold true even if you use very high-strength cement (CTS Rapid Set) with Sika fortifier/bonding agent mixed in?
You da man Kirk! 👍
Hello complicated long drawn out question. If you steal trowel stucco, that sort of seals it, however when it gets saturated with say days let alone months of rain, the dam or so called levy will break. The stucco will expand then drain the moister causing lots of cracks. Kind of like putting a bootle of beer in a freezer. On the flip side if you sponge or hard rubber float stucco this compacts it or brings out the aggregate, this action actually opens the Portland cement so it can breathe. Thus when it gets rained on it allows the water to seep out freely. This is easy for me to understand, now if I could understand algebra or other languages I’d be set.😉
What mud is Kirk using ?
Im a complete amateur and was wondering about making some small patches and experimenting on a slab of concrete to get the feel of it
Oh I see in the description. Rapid set stucco. Looks like I'll need to scrape all the loose material and test it out.
I’d recommend Rapid set Stucco for you sold at HD or Lowe’s in ten or Twenty-five pound boxes, you just add water . Sets really fast.
How was that finished off at the level of the deck? Did you put a weep screed just above the height of the finished deck?
You’re the first to notice that, you must be a professional plasterer. We were going to stick an expansion joint there but it would not have looked right. Thus I used a margin trowel and simply scraped a line to provide an expansion line.
@@StuccoPlastering I figured that, since it didn't look dead straight. No, I'm not a professional plasterer, I have just watched a lot of your videos and like to learn from a master.
@@ChrisRubeo thank you, yeah we followed to boards, good eye brother.
it would be nice to see the final painted...
It takes a couple weeks cure time before painting, besides we do the best we can. No one on the planets can make all patches invisible when painted. In fact I can see a patch done by anyone including me.
Mr. Kirk I've been watching your videos here in Az. Need advice. Have failing Santa Barbara finish on a wall. Can new texture be applied over existing finish?
Been told it can't be done. Won't believe it unless I hear it from you.
I've done it about ten times. My sons Carl and Dan are in the process of, I'd say, their tenth day going over a 50-year-old Santa Barbara finish. It's very easy if one processes the knowledge. You first pressure wash, then apply your new Santa Barbara finish. If you have an e-mail, I can send you some pictures. Cheers.

Love you Kirk, buy a juicer. 😍
I had one. I didn't finish the story in the video. I juiced with the electric one. It had an orange top. This top got chucked in the garbage with the ends, as the dammed top was camouflaged. So, a week later, it was squeeze the old way or no juice. I had a hard time thinking what the hell was wrong with both of my wrists for about five days until I looked at the hand juicer and figured it out.
Things that make you go hmmmm.
