My ninth grade social studies teacher taught us the US flag code of conduct. I later on, told my mom about it during my first year in college, and she relayed it to our local Buddhist temple, because they've been flying flags in the wrong way for several decades.

Thank you! Strong winds blew our flag down. Luckily, it did NOT hit the ground. It was resting across the stair railing so now I'm wanting to get it remounted with a sturdier bracket. The plastic bracket did not stand up to the 50+ mph winds. The solid wooden pole did though. I just ordered an aluminum bracket to replace it. I wanted to make sure we were following the flag code before we move it to the less windy side of the house.

After three attempts to secure the holder with screws, I haven't rehung my flag. I'm about one of two of us on our street who still hangs our flag out. I wonder if gluing the nails in would keep the metal holder from being snatched away by the wind. My flag is very large with a yellow fringe. I angle the holder to fly the flag at a "V" angle rather than square out of the holder.

We've tried just about every brand of flag available and out here in coastal CA we are lucky to get 1 year before it has to be replace. The wind and UV rays are brutal on flags. Many cities have a place (usually a box in city hall) where you can leave your torn or tattered flag. They will dispose of the flag properly- they give to the the VFW!

I have metal posts and brick on the front of my house - are there any type of brackets that exist to wrap around a square column? I don't want to drill into them. All I ever see at the store are the two brackets they mentioned here.
Apologies, I have not done this before. I have vinyl siding, what do I need to find to make sure that block does not fall down? They picked any old spot on that wall but do I need to find a stud behind the vinyl? Or is this so light the vinyl can support it fine?
Stud is great if there happens to be one where you want to hang your flag. Chances are there might not be. There is wooden sheathing that covers all the studs when your home was constructed. That's what they were supposedly drilling into. You can't miss it. Mount your flag exactly where you want it this way.
Being British I do not understand Americans obsession with the flag, but then again the Union Jack now painted on a now German owned mini Cooper and you could literally buy toilet paper with St George's Cross in Scotland during Scottish independence referendum so maybe that has something to do with the lack of passion over this side of the pond.

The upstairs tenant,who claims to be a Vietnam vet, attached his wall flag holder to the stairrailing, and the flag touches junk below it and blows across the steps when wind blows. I walk with a Cane, and one night taking my dog outside his flag slapped me in my face, knocked me off balance causing me to fall, breaking my toe, hurting my shoulder, arm and hand. I would run a beed across the top and sides and try to get it into stud so it doesn't try to flex back and forth in high winds

The orientation is vis a vis the wall, with the union at the top of the pole. The earlier demonstration was a bit unclear on that.
