- The journey begins! A brief summary in case you didn't watch Ep 00. I opened the game for the first time, read all the characters summaries, and though many of them seemed interesting I ultimately chose to start with Castti. I didn't end up having Alfyn on my main team in the first game, so starting with the apothecary this time was cool. I began her Chapter 1 in Canalbrine, only to be met with quite an ominous start...

I am a huge fan of the Octopath series. I played the first game (Octopath Traveler) about a year ago and fell in love. I was so touched by the amazing stories, music, and overall game design that I then dedicated the next year of my life to writing and editing a 2 hour video essay discussing the stories and the impact they had on me... and my favorite funny moments lol (considering I had 156 hours of gameplay this is impressive. These games are big... rpgs be like) - • OCTOPATH: The Game tha... - So if you are a fan of the series, or want a nice summary for the entirety of the first game, feel free to check that out :) And having finally finished that colossal project I'm finally here, free to play Octopath Traveler 2, and once again experience an amazing journey... This is a story you won't want to miss.

Hey guys! If you have any feedback to give me on this video (or episode 00 which came out a few hours ago) I'd love to hear it! I did my best to make this entertaining and keep in only the important parts, but if it ever felt too slow, or if there were things you were wanting to see that I cut, lemme know! Based on your feedback I'll make adjustments if needed and that will set the editing style/pace for the rest of the series. I haven't edited longer form videos like this before, so these first 2 videos are kinda the trial run. I'd love to hear what you thought! I am already so excited to watch this journey with you! I started with Castti too, so it's a little bit like reliving that again. I loved OT1, and loved OT2 even more! It's great seeing such genuine reactions (and love of the music) from you and I cannot wait to see more. Your little additions of text on screen are absolutely perfect as well! I just happened to come across your 2 hour OT1 analyse/why it's important video. The first person I've found to be in such love with this series as I am. Now I'm listening through your play through of OT2 while I work (I work night shifts you see! :3). It makes me happy to listen to the story again while you experience it for the first time. ❤️

Ive been looking at the mobile game for Octopath for so long, I forgot how good this game looks.
Canalbrine just got added into the mobile game, and it has an extra area not featured in this game.
While Octopath 1 had a number of scenario writers, each handling different travelers’ stories, all of the travelers in Octopath 2 share a scenario writer: the same one that wrote Tressa’s story, Primrose’s story, and the story for Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent
Interesting, I also play in the Mobile version and I liked that they kept the same music composer, it's a pretty good detail on their part.
Thank goodness for the weekend so I can watch all of these. Stream of consciousness thoughts (staying away from anything spoilery):
1:30 - The animations in this game are a huge step up, and they did some amazing things with them. I especially like some of the extremely detailed background animations - cats, dogs, birds, npcs, etc. - that make scenes feel alive (like 22:37, with the performer in the lower left corner).
5:12 - She does speak a little slowly! Her dialogue is very precise and measured, as though she chooses her words with care every time. Wise beyond her years.
13:54 - I think it's neat flavor that Castti starts with a bunch of healing items from her pouch!
19:23 - I love the characters' unique animations, like Castti's herb-grinding.
38:06 - My wife and I made exactly the same noise the first time I did a max boost lmao
39:00 - OT1 was rightfully lauded for its soundtrack but OT2 is on another level. Nishiki used full orchestras in the US and Japan to record it. In the liner notes for the soundtrack, he explains that he worked with a US orchestra for the field tracks because the performance spaces here are bigger and the resulting sound is more expansive.
44:12 - Master craftspeople at work.
47:35 - BOSS THEME
50:30 - Right??? The degree to which the game kind of slow-rolls how obscenely broken Castti's ability is...
54:32 - I'm always so happy to see people thinking about turn order and boost potential, it's such a fun mechanic!!
59:43 - I wondered about that, too.
1:01:58 - I had the same reaction too! And then I realized how immensely cool what just happened was. And how my investment in the story went from moderate to complete in an instant. Amnesia tropes are so easy to bungle, and I was worried about how they'd unravel it, but I was suddenly so sure they understood that.
1:07:04 - Her theme is so beautiful. Serene, wistful, implacable.
On to chapter 2!
