My favorite story about Stanwyck was when she tried to check into a hotel with her maid, who happened to be black. When told the maid couldn't stay (but Barbara could), Stanwyck left and checked into an all black hotel and stayed with her maid. . .That took character and guts in those days.
As an actress, I LOVED her.

And she was also a strong supporter of HUAC and believed in rolling back New Deal policies. Before I get a borage of replies telling me to shut up and whatever, I’m not trying to say she was a bad person or that her shitty things outweigh the immense amount of good she did for both the art of filmmaking and the world in general. All I’m saying is people are complicated and we should learn about all the good and bad type done before making a judgement.

Not only for her tribute to William Holden but her comments on the importance of all the offscreen people who helped her so much. I think she was held in very high esteem by the industry and the public; she just didn't win an Oscar. There are many examples of that. Alfred Hitchcock never won an Oscar for directing, just for one. On the flip side, even after Cher won an Oscar, most people- including Cher herself- didn't consider her a great actress.

Barbara Stanwyck's gesture of recognition to the backstage crew who worked to and with her shows her character and integrity. How many actors or actresses have done it in the motion pictures history? It is such a fundamental thing to recognize that because the backstage people are the ones which make the artists become stars on the screen - electricians, fashion designers, make up artists, etc. Of course, talent is fundamental, but talent without the support of a teamwork might not be so well expressed as it should. It is a constelation of things put together. This Oscar came late, but at least came while she was still alive and well. It is a shame she did not get academy awards for so many extraordinary performances she gave. She was such a complete, versatile, and powerful actress! She always gave 110% of herself to her characters to have a convincing existence on the screen. Barbara Stanwyck was professional, admirable, an inspiration, and absolutely captivating! What a legacy she left! A little girl from Broklyn who had a terrible childhood, lost her parents so early, had to go to foster homes, and survived the streets harsh reality became a star of highest magnitude. It is impossible not to applaud such a person! Extraordinary woman, professional, and human being. Bravo Barbara! You will never be forgotten.

Stanwyck always gave credit for her success in movies to Frank Capra, the legendary director who was responsible for Meet John Doe, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, and a myriad of other films, and Billy Wilder, the director of Double Indemnity. It's tragic that William Holden, her friend and co-star succumbed to alcoholism; he fell in a hotel room while intoxicated and didn't realize the extent of his injuries. He was doing some of the best work of his career, The Wild Bunch, Network, et al.

When William Holden was cast in Golden Boy opposite Barbara Stanwyck in 1939, the producers wanted to fire Holden from the film. Stanwyck intervened and saved Holden's job. Holden went on to one of the most successful careers as a leading man, and won an Oscar for Stalag 17. Holden had passed away in November 1981, at the age of 63, after becoming intoxicated and striking his head on a hotel room table. Stanwyck, his co-star in several films, mourned his passing.

She should have had more than one Oscar during her stellar career... Stella Dallas, The Lady Eve, Double Indemnity, and Sorry Wrong Number should have all garnered an Oscar, IMO. During the studio years of Hollywood, I believe she would have needed to be signed, exclusively, to one studio the way Hepburn and Davis were. She was a freelancer and made films for all the studios. She could pick and choose her work, as a result. She would have won at least one Oscar, though, had she been signed to Warner Bros or MGM, for example.

Barbara Stanwyck was a BEAUTIFUL Woman!!!! She had Perfect Facial Features. As a Woman, myself, I wish that I could look this Glamorous. Barbara was a FANTASTIC Actress, and should have Won an Academy Award!!!!!! She was Nominated for an Academy Award (4) Times. In l941, she was Nominated for "Ball of Fire," but lost to Joan Fontaine, who Won for "Suspicion." Even though I am a Huge Fan of Joan Fontaine, Barbara should have Won for "Ball of Fire." Joan Fontaine, instead, should have Won for "Rebecca," in 1940. I Love the fact that Barbara Stanwyck, and William Holden, were Lifelong Friends, until his Death in 1981. They had Great Chemistry, in the 1939 Movie, "Golden Boy," even though William Holden was 21, and Barbara Stanwyck was 32. They had a Couple of Great scenes together, in the 1954 Movie, "Executive Suite." Like "Golden Boy," "Executive Suite," was a Great Movie!!! I am so Happy that the Great, Barbara Stanwyck, received this Honorary Academy Award!!!!!!☺😉😀

She grew up as basically an orphan with a Mother who died and Father who abandoned her and her siblings. She was alone most of her childhood as her siblings were much older. From this she made herself into this unbelievably classy woman and one of the all time greats of American cinema.

And that Generation X, Y and Z, is how you receive an award with class. Notice how there was no rump shaking, tongue wagging or twirking.

She was about 75 years old when this aired, and she looks amazing! Just watched her in Baby face (which took place when she was about 25-26) and she was soo beautiful. Looking at this it makes me happy that she aged so wonderfully. Rest in peace.
