Testing new red micas in cold process soap and pretending this isn't a Christmas Soap

  • I recently received some new sample red micas in my last order from Micamoma, as there were a few of them I wanted to test them out, but didn't want to just do individual testers. I ended up with a Christmas soap, yes I know it's a bit early but I couldn't really think of anything else to do. I could have done a swirl of some sort but then it would be difficult to keep track of which red was which.

Although my cold process soap making tutorials are of a tutorial nature, they are intended for people who have a good understanding of making cold process soap. The information given is based on what works for me, however, there are lots of variables associated with cold process soap making and I, therefore, take no responsibility for the results achieved when using the techniques or methods explained in these tutorials. Cold process soap involves the necessary use of sodium Hydroxide (lye) which is a very dangerous substance. Before attempting and cold process soap making you should ensure you are fully aware of the lye safety procedures and always wear the correct safety equipment when making soap.

Ah red, the problem child of the soap world, and it’s close personal friend, a true deep purple! 😅 Great video as always! ❤

Try mixing magenta with a cyan blue. I'd be curious of the outcome.

Oh, that first one was plain orange on my screen😅 I'm not sold on the middle one, it's a bit pink/cool toned, but the second from the top lookes like a true blood red ❤
Lovely soap, glad you will be re- making it!

      Testing is fun.
Amazing how different they come out.

The different colored stripes reminds me of the different reds you would get in a brick chimney. Very cute!

They are really cute! I agree. The middle one looks like a good red. Today is soap dough day for me. I’ve just about used it all up & needed to make more. Thank you, Lisa, for the vacuum seal idea for the dough.

I love to watch you do anything with soap…extruding, piecing the extruded parts together, blending, stirring(I know, that’s sounds silly!), pouring and I love the testing!!! It’s all learning to me and I love to know something that I didn’t know before! Thanks Lisa 🥰

I recently did something similar with Nurture and Mad Micas reds, but it’s for December’s video 😁
Anyway, I really enjoyed this one, I thought “of course she is making ears lol
And your chuckle gets me chuckling every time!!! Thanks Lisa!❤️

I always marvel at how fulid your batter always is, mine never gets that liquid, but i have a lot of tallow and shea butter in mine.
On the bright side, watching your vidoes has helped me makr my batter more fluid despite the level of solid oils in it.

That's a really cute soap! Your little cup of ears gave Chad and me a chuckle.
It's interesting how some of the colors look different next to each other, but if I block them with my hand so I'm only looking at one at a time, all but the bottom two look like a true red.

This is such a good idea! It is such a pain to do all those little test swatch soaps for new colors. This way, you get 8 useful bars, and a reference bar for future soaps.

I have mixed reds today. We dont really get a real red here in South Africa. We mix them. And it is as you say, its a tricky business!

Trial by Fire is my go to red. It looks pinkish when dry unmixed but very red in soap. I am in the US. I use it in my Dragon’s Blood Soap. A true red.

Ooooh, liked this variation! Thank you Lisa.
I must share with you how much I love seeing your inner voice on the screen. Those little messages you share so often make me giggle.
Hopefully I was alone in my angst about the little elves submerged in the soap. I was imagining them all standing in a conga line celebrating… and I really hoped for the sake of their butts they were all standing up straight when that wire came down 😱
I know, that's a special worry as I haven't had any eggnog yet!
Thank you Lisa for another Friday night delight!
PS was that your kitty calling when you were demonstrating the hat?

Love this 💕 Elf stocking super cute. The difference in reds makes it even better. My red and white stripped socks are exactly the same in each stripe. Of course you would do the little hat and ears. Turned out adorable

It turned out really cute. It is a shame that you can't sell them. (I think of your test colors that I liked the 3rd one best. Hard to tell if my monitor shows the true color). thank you

The colours you used are samples with bland names - does that mean that you will provide feedback to Micamoma? And if so what kind? Needless to say I loved the video as always.

Very interesting topic with a super cool design! I make soap only as a hobby for family. I don't dabble in micas. But this was very interesting. Thank you!

You might experiment by adding just a touch of yellow to the magenta color. It might make the red you are looking for.
I don't use micas, but I am coming from a 4 color printing experience, so I would assume it may be similar.

It's likely that you may not be using soap safe mucas. If you are using pigments. Which are safe. They do bleed unless you use very low amounts
