- Go watch the HD recapture here! • Final Fantasy VII Diam...
It's been recorded on real hardware using a RetroTINK 5X RGB Upscaler and looks nice and crisp!
SPOILER WARNING. If you haven't played Final Fantasy VII yet then I wouldn't watch.
This is the scene from Final Fantasy VII where the Diamond weapon and Midgar attack each other. From the end of the boss battle to when you regain control of the Highwind.
I was surprised to find that I couldn't find this scene with the original music playing so I decided to record and upload it. Sorry if the quality isn't so good. I can't afford a HD recorder so I had to settle for something of a bit lower quality.
I don't own the rights to Final Fantasy 7 or to the music played in the video. They are both property of... uhh... Square Enix... I guess. Yeah. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I love that the explanation for his survival essentially boils down to “I rolled under the desk”
🥲
Nope ….
He had an emergency escape exit which his dad criticising him for getting installed,
It’s the the books
Duck and cover for the win. Its a classic for a reason 😂
Rufus death from the weapon's attack, after defeating it, was such a great ending for the character. Surviving by rolling into a tunnel or whatever is such a cop out. I swear all the new stuff they added since the original game just makes the story worse.
@@TonyAube Exactly
You know. You really have to give Rufus credit. The two times that a Weapon attacked a major settlement that was under Shinra's protection, Rufus not only met the threat of the Weapons head on, but he actually was able to destroy them. He showed competent leadership skills the entire time he was in command of Shinra, and he proved just how strong that their military might actually was, by beating two of the planet's greatest creatures.
Very true can you imagine the damage they could’ve caused. They were about to wipe out Junon and Midgar (Mideel too but you took care of that)
War games
I never gave it that much thought, you're right. Damn
Diamond Weapon: "You took everything from me."
Sister Ray: "I don't even know who you are."
Playing this for the first time in 1997, when these graphics were considered advanced, this was the single coolest thing I had ever seen
It's still one of the coolest things I've ever seen :)
I just played it for the first time and it is still pretty cool to be honest
Lol I know right, I thought this shit was lifelike and it blew me away
Cloud running around like a 10 year old on a sugar high for the last 30 seconds of the vid really rounds this scene off well.
Makes the scene more genuine, IMO.
Lol
Had to hit the 5 min video length somehow. Well assuming that was a thing 12 years ago :D
@@mysticalos Oh no I just like, ran around for a bit thinking of what to do next XD
One of the coolest scenes in the game in my opinion! I kinda felt bad for diamond Weapon after this too lol
strifey07
Yeah I did too tbh, but I think it thought that it's not going to let Rufus have it all his way.
Diamond weapon is still to this day the best FF7 characters to this day!
you prolly dont care but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend for the last few weeks :)
@Valentino Jordy Yea, been using instaflixxer for months myself :D
It's all very fucked up. The best
I was amazed at this scene in fucking 2019, I can’t imagine how insane this will be in the Remake, if we ever get there....
I was shocked and very excited at the time. Even more because I played at a games house with a bunch of teens around. Everybody stopped to see it, including adults.
Got another 2 decades to find out lol
I’m playing this game for the first time in 2022 and this scene blew me away.
@@nobodyimportant6871 me too!
I waited damn near 10 years for the remake. I stopped playing the remake after a few hours. It’s more of a re-imagining than a remake. I don’t want to see how much more they can screw up this game.
Even all these years later, the Sister Ray cutscene STILL goes hard af.
This game was so far ahead of its time.
This will be so epic in Remake part 3
It all makes sense now. The Diamond Weapon wasn't protecting the barrier. It was instructed by the will of the planet to destroy the Sister Ray since it's going to use an enormous amount of life force.
2:16 "this is what you get... *_MY SUPER LASER PISS_* "
@cir3875 but I'm not gonna piss on the earth - I'm gonna go higher. I'M GONNA PISS ON THE MOON!
This the only time I remember being able to move during a cutscene, which is common now in games.
I think FF7 was the first to do it if i'm not mistaken. Just another thing FF7 did to revolutionize video games.
Rufus wasn't seen ever after this in the game... Because of that, he was generally thought to have died here, until Advent Children came out in 2005 and featured him. I think he was said to have escaped through a secret hatch under his desk.
If I’m honest I didn’t really like that they retconned his death. The scene has so much impact because of it, you know? Like we all knew Rufus was a bad guy and he sucked, but like, he didn’t deserve to die. He did all the things he did for the good of his city and it’s citizens and ultimately helped stop the meteor, but unfortunately died in the process. but now it’s just like “Oh! Um, he hid under his desk! Yeah! That’s it.” It’s such a cop-out.
I find it somewhat strange that, despite being one of the weakest of all the Weapons, Diamond become the most iconic of them all.
I cannot wait to see how battling it will work in the remake, and I hope this scene lives up in the remake as well as the original has.
I would say Ruby and Emerald are much more iconic
@@XElhirrimX Ruby more than Emerald. Emerald was kinda easy as long as you got the underwater materia thing. Ruby? Holy hell. Going in with 2 dead people just to have a fair fight, then the whole MP/HP stealing tentacle, his strong all hitting attacks.....Brrr....
What’s even more strange is that despite its name and even design, Ultimate Weapon is the 3rd strongest weapon, not the strongest. Although one can still make the argument that he is still the strongest weapon in the story, as Ruby and Emerald are completely optional
@@iam4026 Indeed. Ruby and Emerald weren't even in the original Japanese release. Ultimate was named so because it WAS the strongest weapon at the time.
You fight Ultimate Weapon in parts, he was the first and easiest of the three I defeated and Ruby was easier than Emerald if you had the strategy down. But I think Diamond, if you had to defeat him, would have been the hardest (or maybe still Emerald, I dunno, probably just the nostalgia talking). I figured him being called Diamond meant he was the strongest of the three gem-named weapons.
Such a badass cutscene.
This scene in the remake is gonna be so freaking awesome.
Damn, Rufus was such a BOSS.
0:34 Nice try Vincent, but I know you just wanted to show us your ninja running, which I liked xD
1:54 With all the incredible music in this game, it was an awesome decision to have no music from the point it fires. Somehow having no music makes it more dramatic
Because you're expecting more sound build up because that's how media presents tenseness to us. By cutting off audio you're drawn in more to listen, and then having the sound of the expulsion of that ray be the only sound you hear afterwards just emphasizes the graviga of the situation
Here lies Diamond Weapon... killed by human’s greed like Shinra...now extinct.
4:56 is very cinematic.
LOL
This is One Of The Most iconic scenes in Video Game History!
Definitely one of the best scenes in the whole game.
4:28 Rufus, a true man, facing death in the eye. I count this as lore, not his "coming back from the dead" in Advent Children.
Me too my friend, me too
actually thats fine if he's not dead....strong guy surviving an explosion....cure materia.......Cloud group not dying to Diamond missiles mid-combat(or even 100 ton foot stomp lol).....while Cloud is Mako injected to make his body stronger...his group members aren't....so Rufus surviving a little explosion would not be surprising in the least....let alone injure him(but he's shown as injured in advent)...as for real life its possible to actually survive a fire blast(although if survive gonna be badly burnt)..however probably not 1 of the level of Diamond weapon
One of the most epic scenes of all rpg games
I really hope Square Enix doesn't botch up remake. I know that Square Enix is going to remix all of the music tracks, but please give us the option to listen to the original soundtrack, please.
It's all or nothing if they don't include cross dressing Cloud lol
I have bad news for you.
Seems like you're going to have to wait another 4+ (who knows?) years for part 2... and then more for 3... and maybe even 4.
Marshoul we knew that when the comment was made...
I’m gunna say it. new soundtrack is better. The only reason I would listen to the old soundtrack would be nostalgia.
Shinra did one single thing right. They disabled the barrier the barrier. Gotta give them that.
They killed the other weapon in junon forgot his name though
Don’t know if you still care or if you remembered his name but it is Sapphire Weapon(sorry if I sounded rude or like a smart Alex)
Hope this helps
They also killed both Diamond Weapon and Sapphire Weapon at least!
Sapphire Weapon was never named in-game so it's normal you "forgot" its name. The people just called it "Weapon" in the game. The story is that Squaresoft retroactively named him Sapphire Weapon for the ultimania guide.
I love how in FFX they have a similar scene where you fire at SIN the same way on the beach
The background music that starts at 1:11 is so badass i keep listening to it.
Boy can't wait to see this scene in the remake!
WEAPON theme still hits hard even after all these years, such a great twist to up the stakes of the game
Ultimate Weapon should’ve been the one to attack Midgar
He does twice, he hovers over Midgar trying to use his signature move on it when you’re free roaming the map.
Guess we'll get there in FF7 Remake part 5 in 2029
More like 2099

I don't think we're getting the mecha-weapons back... They're all probably gonna be that weird whale thing we saw, or maybe that was just Emerald? We'll see...
@@justfire123 I think the whales are bait, I hope the fights are like "bizarro" in rebirth 5x
@@justfire123 Nah. Those were just new weapons. Maybe even infants.
@@Fadeddreams5 I guess it's possible too. We'll see in about 3 years.
Planet shoulda sent Ruby Weapon here instead. Cannon wouldn’t have done shit to it
Honestly with that 480 defense, not even the overflow glitch can stop it
I never knew this cutscene was recreated in advent children when I was a kid I thought it was a memory Rufus had or something but when I saw this I was “ohh ok that’s where it came from.” And last year I saw this again and just re watched advent children again to see it again I love both versions but I hope this will be in the remake
Man..i still get chills seeing the sister ray going off then diamond charges his shoulder weapon, way ahead of 1999
Wow...great vid
Wish I could’ve fought the Diamond Weapon in FFXV, I was so hyped... only for it not to exist in the game only in cutscenes
"Move out of the way, there's a beam coming right at you!!"
-my reaction on Diamond Weapon just standing still when there's a huge-ass beam coming towards him
Cinematic gem!!
this shit was so hype when I played it not even like 5 years ago
This scene was mind blowing when I first saw it. You don't realize how shitty graphics look until you see them years later.
I think it aged pretty decently.
In honor of Wolf, aka Sabaoth. IE: The Wolf helmet skin and the predator skin on the diamond weapon, as the diamond weapon is the name of the predators ship.
Omg, I wonder what will they do with this in the remake and how will we fight the weapons.
Perhaps they could awaken the materia/power inside them or something and go all out and be loose with the fight or something.
Part 1 of the remake is about to come out. Part of my dream is to see the weapons vs shinra. I'm crying
Brrr give me shivers!!!!
rufus went out like a fucking G
Just watching this makes me want to replay this game lmao.
why is that funny?
Nothing still beats the original. Yeah, gravitas or whatever is lost on the newer generations especially with the remake out, but I’ll never EVER forget the original. It tells a better story anyway.
So astonishingly intense as the party seemingly reconciles that the death of Diamond Weapon must be some terrible omen considering what a massive force of nature it is.
.... it's a deranged machine that is too stupid to fulfill its one purpose.
I can't imagine them feeling anything other than good riddance.
Wrap it up guys, we're going to Midgar!
Years ago after this scene I flew the Highwind from the cannon in Midgar to the northern caven. The shot from the cannon clearly misses the crater. Lol
Yeah I did that too. The gun has an adjustable aim to a small extent but still. Against a static target it should have been Aimed straight at it
One of my fav cutscenes in the original I just somehow feel the remake won't hold justice to this original version of really can't. 7 is my fave FF of all time but I find SE not capable of doing the remake justice
I am kinda worried about that myself. It seems like square has forgotten how important the aesthetic of the game is, when I see the teaser trailers I'm very much reminded of FFXV. Which is going for a very different feel to what the original FFVII was. But still, I kinda hope that the remake is able to hold it's own. It looks like they put a heck of a lot more effort into it than they did for the remake of FFVI.
@@nfistfu which is very sad considering that's my favorite final fantasy...Maybe one day.
Imagine in 700 years internet down.
It took me all these years to realize why I loved Diamond weapon so much.
It was trying to protect the barrier.
And it only wanted to kill Rufus. It spared all of Midgar.
:'(
Which is dumb though, why protect sephiroth?
Yeah I don't think it wanted to protect Sephiroth since he was the main enemy of the planet. Weapons are a force of nature, they would kill anyone that tried to hurt the planet (Shinra/humans in this case).
@@UnifiedEntity Probably DW was just a Sephiroth fanboy.
It wasn't trying to protect the barrier or Sephiroth. The barrier prevented the Weapons from even sensing Sephiroth, let alone harming him. Thus, the Weapons focused their attention on what they perceived to be the biggest threat to the planet, the Shin-Ra corporation.
All the weapon was protecting the planet. Not specifically sephiroth. He summoned the meteor so the planet is trying to fight back with weapons and the holy materia.
Breathe air in.
RIP Shinra
ranibro Rest in Piss for sure
I take it ya haven’t watched Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children?.
*imitates CinemaSins* "He survives this."
I hope Square-enix will included this in the remake part 3
Its a good thing that cloud and the crew delayed DW's attack.
i felt sad about weapon , saphiree too ( if he lives) he's probaly next weapon to fight !
In my hands.
Summoned and failed experiment.
If only he stepped to the side
I feel bad for diamond weapon man…
Natural Forces against evil horror
A bio-mechanical automaton with faulty programming.
*N-A-T-U-R-E*
These kind of statements are what make me root for Shinra.
I wonder how this will play out in part 3. Sephiroth has now distracted Rufus away from him by manipulating him to declare war on Wutai. Will the Sister Ray will open up the crater or will the party be forced to find another way? It will be amazing to see the Sister Ray fire in new graphics though
I really hope remake doesn't change the story enough to fuck this up.
They already have been, no reason to think they'll stop for this.
so are they gonna revamp the Weapon's design for part 3 of the remake?
Before VII REMAKE, comes XIV 5.5 Raid.
Diamond Weapon was just way. He was unfortunate enough to be in the sight of the laser.
lol i'm going to quote another user from another comment section.
"I can't be the only one who sees the blatant innuendo behind these series of cutscenes. A really long cannon sucks a ton of energy to fire a huge white beam at a giant crater and breaks a barrier around it? How can anybody miss the euphemisms at work here?"
- Sky Render
isn't that the cannon from Junon?
I always wondered what went through Rufus' mind?
Maybe....
"OK...The barrier is destroyed. Cloud...It's up to you now. And, I am sorry for everything..."
Long and behold, Rufus becomes a good guy in Advent Children.
Nah he won't suddenly want for Cloud to beat Sephiroth that time.
What went through Rufus's mind? Shrapnel from the explosion.
Kids these days will never know the feeling. This was on some Marvel level back in the day for us
The scene is so epic, the whole city shuts down due to how much mako they’re using.
Fun Fact, I played through this game with my nephews about a year ago and they had a really good time, especially for this cutscene. Crazy thing is that they were the ones who asked me to play the game with them
@@nfistfu I love this so much and they just rejuvenated my youth lol. Tell them that
FF7 is sadly the only game in the FF franchise where the demon weapon beings are NOT your enemy. It's truly like shadow of the collosus when your party kills them, namely because THEIR ON YOUR SIDE AGAINST SEPIROTH! Personally I feel that instead of knights of the round as your final summon, the whole side quest of defeating the 5 weapons should have resulted in gaining an ultimate summon that brought forth all 5 weapons to attack at once. could you imagine ruby, emerald, diamond, saphire and ultima, the guardians of the planet, unleashing a combined barrage assault along side cloud agaisnt sephiroth?!
Well it's more that they were just forces of nature trying to destroy all humanity, they didn't really take any sides. That being said that summon idea does sound pretty cool.
Also not all of the Weapons make an appearance in the original Japanese version, so those side-quests were mostly just added as extras in the international versions.
I know its late...
But the WEAPONS are not protecting Sephiroth, they are protecting the gaping wound on the planet, which is the northen crater, Sephiroth being there has nothing to do with it.
They also try to destroy anything that dangers the planet to protect it.
I see you never played Final Fantasy 6.
Diamond weapon in 14 wasnt really explicitly your enemy, either, even though you do fight it
The chills man. Can't wait to see this in the Remake

How did the weapon get destroyed on hit the max attack is only 9999 in game in one attack? 🤨😅😉
I mean, if you kill about 65,000 enemies with Vincent he will deal enough damage with the death penalty weapon to overflow the game to deal negative damage and dealing negative damage automatically kills any enemy in the game, so maybe that’s how it did it?

Duanne Khristoper Mangampat I think they were borne from the planet as a mean of self defence.
