Hi! im 2 months late to this, he seems to be in the tuning DADGAD, if you've watched the bbc radio one video of him teaching Black and white he explains what that is. but once your in that tuning it looks like he's going from the low D string 5th fret then to the 7th fret. just listen with headphones and be ready to pause alot haha
and from what i can see, the picking pattern seems to be (6 4 3 3 4 6) but honestly the most important part is the bass note on either the 5th or 7th fret of the low D .I cant really tell what he's doing with his pinky and ring finger on the fretting hand ill comment again when i figure it out

I play the guitar and yep, it sometimes hurts, he is sliding with his fingers from first to idk 7th fret so it can hurt, believe me, and it's normal
Fingers are much harder after playing everyday (it's weird), but still sometimes it hurts
