    I had an O'Day 25 at St. Petersburg marina when hurricane Elena came through. We were asked to stay with our boats if we could in order to ease the dock lines as the surge came in, and tighten them back up as it went back out again. I slept on the boat and did hourly checks of the dock lines. This time, I don't have a boat so I'm holed up in my evacuation spot (I was under mandatory evacuation) waiting for the storm to pass. Good luck to you and yours!

      I've been there three times a day and our water got sucked out, so one of the times I saved us as the lines would have gone tight with still a foot lower to go. We're on our keel but still floating. Today might tne the opposite as the backside winds change direction. We're still seeing 55mph.

    Keeping you both and Envision in my thoughts as you wake up this morning to the aftermath. The trail cam was a great idea!

    Looking forward to the trail cam footage. Thank you from St Marys, GA. Our 30 footer is in a creek off the Neuse river in NC, so not overly concerned.
    Lots of luck, stay safe!

    My marina has mandatory evac. I'm surprised ya'lls doesn't. Looks like Tampa got lucky and Ian made land fall further south. Please upload the aftermath ! Hope all is well

    wow,, I was thinking about you guys, in watching the storm, looks like you dodged the bullet. I'm up in Jax, over prepared the house for this, and it looks like it'll be east of us. Good luck bro,, so much for the adage, "red at night, sailor's delight",, great shot though. Looking forward to your cam footage.

    I’m glad I sold my boat that was anchored out. Not sure what I would have done for the storm.

      Thank you! We're okay for now but we have one more day of it as we now get the backside of it.

    I just wrapped a rope around my mainsail cover tight and tucked my boat in a mangrove. When the water rushed back since my boat was sitting on its keel most of this storm the seal in my centerboard post coming up from inside broke and i went inside to be standing in a foot of water had no bilge at the time 😅

    Thanks for the video. Hope you guys and the boats stay safe from Ian. Where the bagpipes from the high school? my son helped during their band camp one year.

      Thanks. I don't know where they are from, but I think probably so... it's often I hear and see them in the park.

    Hope you both and Envision are ok and safe. Watching from over in the Philippines as we just had a big typhoon here a few days ago. (Two days of high winds and flooding). We're 12 hours ahead of you good folks over on the east coast of the US.

    We are in central Florida so please let us know how you guys make out with the anticipated storm surge.

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem +6

      it's looking like we missed the surge because the storm ducked in just south, so we actually had a super low tide as the water was sucked out. I'll go check at high tide today and see if the water makes it over the seawall.

    Stay safe. I hear my boat is already on the ground in the Davis Island seaplane basin. This has happened before. I am wondering how fast the water will come back in.

    What did you use to clean your sails? Good luck today as the storm approaches.

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem +3

      I used Wet it and Forget it... which is non-acidic and has no bleach, and is safe for sails. It seemed to work well to remove the mildew and although it says not to rinse it, I did because the residue becomes slippery on deck when it is re-wet.

    What happened to the boats moored offshore?

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem

      There seems to be one or two less... not sure. The rest stayed. I would say they got 65mph max wind there.
