Ulisese De La Cruz v Heart Of Midlothian October 21st 2001

De La Cruz scored both of his only goals for Hibernian in the space of 25 minutes as Hibs defeated Hearts 2-1 at Easter Road. His first goal was a strike after just 36 seconds.
Alex McLeish signed the Ecuadorian in June 2001 for a record fee of £700,000. He would depart for Aston Villa the next summer, but not before representing Ecuador at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan whilst still contracted at Hibernian. This made De La Cruz Hibernian's first, and only, player to play at a World Cup for a country outside the home nations while plying his trade in Leith.
