I seriously believe Ruud was even better and more horrific in front of the goal than Ronaldo, never hardly see him miss a penalty or a goal scoring chances!

My name is David, born in Indonesia, thousands of miles from Manchester. That's why since childhood I was always called "David Beckham" by people. And I finally found out that he was playing at Manchester United. In that season (2002/2003), I was 10 years old and I got my very iconic first jersey. The good old days.

Man, it was as if Ruud van nistelrooy scored half of the goals. Man was so deadly. Diego Forlan also Played a good part that season.

Man, we had a lot of flair tbh. Look, we had RvN with 30+ goals, Solskjaer 15+, Scholes 15+, Beckham 10+, Giggs 10+, Forlan around 10, Veron 5+, etc. I mean everyone upfront was scoring ( we just had 4/5 goals from defenders - Brown, Phil and Gary). There was a lot of energy, countless attacking options, different formations. I miss those days man daaah

    • @nnd5768
      @nnd5768 Před rokem +5

exactly. this team was mint. Forlan Veron were great players. Ole RVN best striker partnership after Yorke Cole and better than RVP Chicha later or Rooney Tevez. Becks Giggs Scholes Veron absolute domination in creative mid. If only they couldve add Sneijder in those days. As well as Benzema was a huge miss later on.
Defence was always a bit shaky, but when Rio Vidic came in it got sorted out. Currently with Varane Martinez Dalot Malacia we are back to those Brown Silvestre Nevilles days.
Midfield now probably the closest to that quality after 10 years gap. Eriksen Casemiro McTominay and Bruno in front.
But Rashford Sancho Antony Ronaldo looks good only on paper, we dont see that quality as we use to.
Ole managed to get us scoring 120+ goals a season again. But as always defence wins titles.

Looking at some of these goals I cant help but think SAF made a huge mistake offloading Veron & bringing in Kleberson for the 03/04 season. It looked like Seba was just settling in at Utd before being sold to Chelsea as well.
After losing Beckham Utd lacked another player who could create something from midfield. We only had Scholes at the time.
Had we signed a good centre back (Ledley King from Tottenham?) & Rio not missed a piss test I dont think people would be talking about 'Invincible' Arsenal.
Really a terrible transfer market for Utd in the summer of 2004 when you look back at it

Looking back at it we kind of underachieved with this squad. World Class players everywhere. I mean Ole and Forlan were backing up Ruud. The midfield had Keane, Becks, Giggs, Scholes, Veron and Nicky Butt. Ahhhhh we should have won more. I miss this team.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy was on a one-man crusade that year as he racked up 44 goals and single-handedly powered United to the title. Plus this also marked the last dance of the Class of 92 era.

they're (defending lines) struggled from the very first time Schmeichel left the club and also Stam, worsting the situation. having the most creative, organized midfilders and lethal strikers in the world for that moment, yet not a single champions league title came by into Old Trafford... it's a reality crime. and one thing to regret. @@bryanleeyf87

In ChampionsLeague it's never a case of looking at 1 team's squad and just thinking they have to win CL because it's never easy and there's a lot of good teams and only 1 team can win and sometimes comes down to luck in a cup. But even more so in 2002/03 every quarterfinalist that season were elite teams (ManUtd, RealMadrid, Barca, Valencia, Inter, AC Milan, Juventus & Ajax with the likes of Ibrahimovic) ManUtd just like 2000 & 2013 were unlucky to top their group and still get Real Madrid in the first knockout round. If ManUtd had got them or even Milan in the final they may have won the final was at OldTrafford and it's a 1-off game but that round was a bit too early for that RealMadrid team to go out. In 1999 ManUtd won the treble and played McManaman in the PL, Figo in the CL group stages, Ronaldo in the CL QF Zidane in the CL SF and that was hard enough but to play them all at the same time vs 1 team was unlucky. ManUtd won 1 of the games so like I said if it was a 1off final they could've won the trophy. I think RMadrid & ACmilan were the only 2 teams that ManUtd may have needed to avoid or only meet in the final that year to win because ManUtd comfortably beat Juventus home&away Juventus were lucky like in 97/98 in that ManUtd got the better of them in the group stages but then Juventus still got to the final both years and ManUtd didn't.
Juventus who only scraped through to knockouts with 7pts from a possible 18 ManUtd topped it comfortably & three teams were tied on 7pts Juventus had the best head-to-head record involving the 2 other teams Basel & Deportivo.
It was a bit like Euro96 not just because OldTrafford was a venue for many games it was a closely fought competition with all ties from QF to final only having a maximum of 1 goal in it. 2 teams went through on away goals (1 including the Milan derby SF when they both play at the same stadium so it's not really home or away for either team, AC had only just squeezed past Ajax with a late goal to avoid them being eliminated on away goals) another game was decided in extra-time and fittingly the final was decided on pens it was so tight. In fact despite ACMilan's squad being very good, the fact they only just got through each game of probably the easiest route they could've had from the list of QFinalists maybe ManUtd could've beaten them over 2 legs that year. AC drew the final vs a team ManUtd convincingly beat home&away when Juventus had Nedved who was suspended for the final vs AC and it still went to pens. Juventus won SeriaA that season AC came 3rd, think the soon to be BallonDor winner that year could've caused AC problems had he been available to play.
The following season when ManUtd were actually slightly weaker they would've gone on to win the competition had they not been robbed in Last 16 vs eventual winners Porto. It was the first year of the newest CL format that we've had for 20 years now and it can give a much better chance for mediocre teams like they (& Liverpool the next year) to win it. Scholes was played onside by 4 Porto players when he scored his 2nd goal of the night but wrongly flagged offside then Porto still would've gone out had they not got a soft freekick at the end and it was a GK error but Porto were awful 1st half and ManUtd may have been out of sight but for that awful offside call.
Porto then had a EuropaLeague route from QF onwards rather than CL

If Manchester United were so good, why haven't they won any major trophy since 2017 ? Let me guess, you'll likely come up with the 20-league-title tag. Ironically, it is an embarrassment for a team with such status to go almost 5 seasons without winning a major trophy, and you're here celebrating ending above Liverpool and Chelsea who have won major trophies recently. what's the point of always ending up in a top spot with no trophy to show for it?

    • @shovonalam8372

there is no 'if' in the greatness and quality of the team Manchester United were under Sir Alex. You are either ignorant or just a troll for imposing such a dumb a#3 silly question. They were good then but after 2013 lot of things have changed (retirement of Sir Alex and David Gill), more money has flown into other clubs, the club itself run by money men who only care about market share and all other financial stuff. For them it seems enough for the club to be a top 4 club. Even without winning anything last 5seasons, Manchester united has THE largest fan following ahead of any other club in the whole world (may change if it continues like this for another few seasons), it is the 3rd biggest club in terms of financial gains behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. Either know more about football or just stop asking dumb questions.
