  • Route 66 Trailhead Park is a small but neat park located on Historic Route 66 in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The park was dedicated in 2012 and includes a portion of the original Route 66 roadway that you can walk on, an exhibit on the Pacific Electric Railway, grapes, a really cool bridge, and access to the Pacific Electric Trail. While this is a newer place to stop on the Mother Road, it is worth a quick visit if you find yourself in the area.

I just found your video! Another fun fact is that there's a section of the previous railroad bridge on display in the park. You actually walked through it as went towards the wall with all the stops that the P.E. had in the area. The Etiwanda station still exists, and is in the process of being rehabed. It's planned to be reopened to the community as a museum by the local historical society.
And finally, thanks for pointing out the bike maintenance station! As a member of Friends of the Pacific Electric Trail, we've worked hard at improving trailhead amenities all along the trail! When completed, the PE Trail will be 27 miles total!

I was born in Upland in 1952. My grandparents were co-owners of the Upland Feed and Fuel Company in the old downtown Upland. I remember living out in Alta Loma on a chicken ranch. So, between Alta Loma/Cucmonga to Upland there was basically nothing except the winery, lots and lots of granite rocks where in the rainy season, it became a huge gigantic 'wash'. Up on 17th street, or was it 19th street, the road there was basically straight, but wavy like a roller coaster. My dad would put us in the family car and drive fast over that road to where we thought we were weightless!!! Oh, and I remember going on a small school field trip in Alta Loma, up further to a place where an old man had his own stream train on his property where he gave all the school kids a ride. I've always wondered what happened to that train. .....Russell Decker

Born and raised in Alta Loma/Rancho Cucamonga, (now live in Upland). I can walk from my house to this area. I never new about the part of the 1914 part of the route 66 highway that is still there. Love your channel, now a subscriber!

I grew up in Rancho/Etiwanda, and worked at the Magic Lamp Inn for 7 years. I know that road well.

We live in Fontana, a little further east. The Pacific Electric Trail is well-maintained by all the cities that it passes through, although it is still being worked on in a few places.
