- In the second part of my deep dive into the Peninsular war of 1808-1814, we follow Sir Arthur Wellesley and his small expeditionary force as they tackle Portugal's French occupiers. We examine the battle of Vimeiro - can Wellesley prove his mettle against "Boney's invincibles" or will he and his men be pushed back into the sea?

You've got it into your head that you need to change voice and carictor when changing to each person taking in turn, you don't.. Stick with one voice and make that you trade mark, one voice with caviats to enfacise point's of divination. Check out the voice that does the voice for 18th century England in the ghettos, its real distinctive. You probably heard it being in the game. 👯♀️🤫

As usual, an excellent and enlightening picture of the Battle of Vimeiro. I think that it would be very interesting to have the French perspective as well. Could we have a separate Redcoat podcast from a French point of view? I am sure that some of Napoleon's marshals wrote in their memoirs about the Peninsular War. Captain Coignet was also in Spain, although quite briefly.
Another excellent episode. I think when I get to go there, I’ll have this playing.

First episode of this I happened to catch, very interested to check out more episodes. Good stuff here. Like almost all Americans, I exclusively know the events of the Napoleonic Wars from old broadcasts of Sharpe and Hornblower, as well as some hundreds of hours playing Mount and Blade: Napoleonic Wars. So it will be fun to learn something of the actual, real history too-

Never a General had such a sugestive name "Burrard", in portuguese the word "burro" means donkey, and the name Burrard can be used to nice quibble, do to the action of Sir Harry regarding the "Convention of Sintra", great video Chris.

Just saying but I would love to see something like this but on pontiacs war and I am interested in pontiacs war because I play the tenor and sometimes the base drum in a bagpipe and drum band that is named after the 42nd regiment of foot aka the black watch and I am interested in the war because near present day Harrison city pa a force of 500 redcoats which was made up of the 42nd Highlanders regiment of foot aka the black watch, the 77th Highlanders and the 1/60th royal Americans opposing them was a force of between 110 and 500 American Indians and the battle was a British victory but i kept asking myself how did the redcoats defeat a force of American Indians when back during the French and Indian war the Indians defeated the redcoats at the battle of the mongohalea and also at Fort William Henry.

Junot never got his baton! He was just a general du division.
Letting the French leave with loot and cannon after they butchered and assaulted so many civilians was truly a disgrace. You could argue transport and personal arms to be retained in return for a fee, but to give the French everything they wanted. They must have been laughing all the way home
French soldiers after the battle be like : Thank you rosbeefs for free transport, we will not have to cross Spain again
Man, attacking defensive positions seems insane at this point. Especially given the terrain. Could the French just...not attack here?
Junot had a small force, and knew that the British might receive reinforcements from the sea, so he hoped to beat them quickly before that happened.
@jochannon And lots of experience of not being resisted. Surprised that British stood firm. If Wellesley had not been senior officer when battle started, Junot would have been justified in his attack. Ironically, Junot's early attack meant he faced Wellesley, not the commanding officer, Bullard

Make an effort. As a 68-year-old Brit, I'm ashamed of such a weak attempt at French names and words. There all sorts of resources to help you. Shame you never did languages st school. We used to do French from age 8 then German. Also Latin and Greek - and I was a scientist
