It hurts deeply to lose a loved one. I don't want to cause hurt like that to my loved ones. I'm going home when I die to be with Jesus & to see those that went on before me who I have missed. It'll be a happy time for me. If this gives comfort, who are we to judge? I've always told my kids, "Dying is like going on a trip with no luggage." Btw, please pray for my son, God knows the need. You didn't know my aunt nor our family so to pass judgment on what YOU feel is appropriate and/or inappropriate is disrespectful. The tradition or style which my aunts homegoing celebration was conducted was perfectly fine with our family and we feel Johnson did a magnificent job. That's why our people don't progress, people quick to pass judgment and hold everyone to standards which they themselves don't understand. Do some research and reading into history, customs and traditions. Your ignorance only shows your true lack of knowledge and understanding of who you truly are.....
To each his own but I prefer the funeral home do the agreed upon services and go to the back until it is over.. Don't need them to become a part of the program. Its a bit showy for my tastes. But clearly the people enjoy it. 🤷🏾♀️

I’m owner of funeral home , we have 2 funeral home in 2 states we do about 675 funerals a year between both establishments, we don’t put on a show like this, except for military services, we are a Caucasian funeral home with predominantly Caucasian families we serve, but we have about 10% African Americans families we serve. Never done anything like this. If it works I see no problem with it.

From a family that owned 2 funeral homes for almost 100 years, people can request what they want. The last time a person gets honor it is at their funeral. If this was their way of honoring them nothing wrong with that. This funeral was packed. They were loved by a lot of people. If they want to have a crowning ceremony, go for it. I hope to have this many people at MY funeral and some type of ceremony to comfort my loved ones. Some funeral Homes in Chicago and Detroit do this too. It's not a southern thing. DUH.
