That was actually one of the proposed ideas: reduce Germany to a pastoral society, unable to possibly wage war ever again. Then the Allies remembered that the last time they tried to really punish Germany, Germans just stayed real angry.
The alliances were a big part and legitimised their actions, but most countries had reasons independent of that for fighting. Germany was tight with the Ottomans and Russia wanted control of the Bosporus straight. France wanted to take back land held by Germany. Italy had a territorial beef with Austria-Hungary. Germany realised that they were surrounded by strong powers they felt were hostile and wanted to strike preemptively. Everyone eventually regretted everything, of course.
@@Ostsol My understanding is that the allies dropped propaganda fliers over German strongholds during the first world war suggesting that if they surrendered then every country involved would just pay for their own losses and when Germany did surrender they were saddled with other nations' expenses. If I understand correctly, this resulted in widespread poverty in Germany and made it easier for hitler to radicalize the people (although there was a lot more to the motivation for world war 2 than that, I'm sure religious tensions did exist to some extent beforehand)
@@Where_is_Waldo Interesting, though it's the first I heard of the fliers. One point about the reparations that Germany was forced to pay: although the country was impoverished in the immediate aftermath of the war, as the 1920s progressed, Germany's economy actually recovered. Foreign investment was coming in and things were getting to be pretty comfortable again. Hitler and the Nazis actually lost some support during this time -- and, while certainly not insignificant, it had never been terrible high in the first place. Perhaps if this course had continued, they would have fallen even further. However, the Market Crash of 1929 and the start of the Great Depression ultimately resulted in a massive resurgence and growth in future elections.
@@Ostsol Thanks for the info, I'm far from an expert on any of this but it's interesting. Also, on a side note, did you ever notice that Norm could make you laugh by talking about ANY subject?
The greatest, tightest standup set ever. RIP Norm.
I love these please keep up the good work
agreed
The sister leper story needs one of these versions
Beautiful way to honour him. Norm would approve. The art remains brutally honest with minimal caricature. Much respect to the artist. 🇨🇦
it's AI generated "art", just look at the hands
@@ds7506 I thought it looked familiar. Thank you for clarifying.

Who did the animation? Amazing!

I'd love this if not for the AI art, that shit's wack. The less we use that abomination the better
