  • Welcome to the briefing room, pilot, and welcome to the new tutorial series - The Art of the Mirage F1. Understand some fundamental information before embarking on your training, including cockpit familiarisation and HOTAS controls.
    Suggested HOTAS controls are based on the Winwing Orion 2 F-16(EX) HOTAS.
    Reiver is not a hardcore milsim-er - he just likes playing the game well - if you're looking for something more authentic, please consult the flight manual.

    I've found a very handy keybind for the Mirage, (especially the 2000 because of all the small buttons) to have on the HOTAS is a bind (outside of DCS for head tracking) to hold the view steady to find the tiny buttons. I'm new to DCS and the Mirage is my first plane, but I find that very handy, as on the Mirages, some of those switches are so tiny (or in French) and hard to find at a glance.

      @reiver1-1  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, I have a "headtracking pause" bind on my hotas for the exact same reason!

    What a week. I have had the F1 sitting on my shelve for several months as the training missions were a problem and the manual was not that good. Now, this week, I find that the manual has been updated for the better, your series is about to be released and Chuck's Guide of over 500 pages has been published. With all of that, to paraphrase a famous saying, I shall become the angel of death, destroyer of all my enemies.

    They are the legend of my youth and childhood growing up in Cape Town in the 1980's and 1990's. I have sat in F-1CZ #207 which is a shared darling with Aristide Woodley, who made the 100% correct F-1CZ colour schemes. I have played with all the switches, and controls - and can confirm they are 100% correct.

    I am very new to DCS, and right off purchased both Mirages. They're complex little buggers, but I love them. Your channel has been a great help, especially with the EE, as it's hard to find much on that model specifically elsewhere. Thanks!

    Hi Reiver,
    After much consideration I’ve decided to start my DCS journey with the F1 as my first module. I still need to wait to buy a PC so I can play DCS, but the research of the available modules is already half the fun!
    I would like to thank you for your amazing series on the F1, I’ve watched them all, some even a couple of times. Your videos are very relaxing to watch after a hard day of work! Your calm explanation, sometimes combined with clear drawings works very well, you have a talent for these kind of videos!
    I look forward to the rest of the series, you’ve earned yourself a new subscriber!

      I admire your courage in selecting the F1 as your first aircraft; she isn't the easiest to handle but the it is well modelled and her systems are interesting. Good luck and thank you for the feedback!

      Good choice, its a very complete module that gives you 4 very unique variants in a single module. I got it last week and I can´t stop flying it. And that´s only flying the CE, can´t wait for the F1M.

      @@jero-se9hn I´d dare say you could not have made a better purchase, everything you learn on it you will carry on to other planes. Its a very complete module. Did you try the new Flight Model changes on yesterday patch? its even nicer to fly now.

    This is a great video, thank you. But please know that ‘airframe’ isn’t a more sophisticated way of saying ‘aircraft’. It means the structure of the airplane MINUS the engine. It makes no sense when used in the way you have employed, e.g. a substitute for ‘aircraft’. I know the DCS community loves to avoid at all costs using the word plane (fixed wing), helicopter (rotorcraft) or engine (powerplant). But they all sound super cringe when they are grammatically incorrect.

    • @reiver1-1
      @reiver1-1  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Thank you, I'm aware of what it means. It's a habit picked up from an aircraft maintenance technician I know who uses the terms interchangeably, especially if the topic of discussion isn't exclusively engine-related.
      I mean I do refer to it as an aircraft several times :D
