That was some very good observation on that display with the cracked joints. You are right this is a common issue especially with the earlier higher voltage ones. Nice work ! 👍
I never mentioned it in the video but the tray door has a felt seal that's supposed to stop airflow into the BD drive. Fans in electronics creates it's own problems
I have faced problem in most sony blue ray players panel switch malfunction ,if you press volume -- key ,it function as volume + and volume increases ,another player if eject is pressed function as volume -- and volume start to reduce .what might be the reason for this double key press problem?....anyone please help
When I worked in a UK recycling centre items with these faults came in by the ton. If only government had said let’s get people who know how to fix this stuff to work on it like you have with this unit soo much equipment would not have been crushed down for smelting.
There is simple technique to open door plate even it's not open or without power supply on. there left side of Tray module there is small Pin hole put a needle & gently press inside lock will be shifted & try has been easily out come. after came out try press front plate out & Blu Ray module easily out come. If any one want this Service Manual then reply me Send you entire diagramed with voltage lines. Thanks Buddy for opening.
Good information for my behalf, because I own a Sony BlueRay. Interesting little Class C Power Supply. Absolutely despise today's technology everything is a plastic snap, clip and twist. Appreciate now knowing about those LCD Solder joints that like to crack, so much there are 2, 1 for back-up. Have 4 Pioneer CD players with this.
Giving your family member one less thing to worry about!
Addressing creature comforts is a nice approach
Good man, Trev

It's amazing how much muck gets into these devices. Of course you are blissfully unaware of it until there's a problem. Thanks for sharing Trevor.
Area of concern oriented ducting for the fan would have helped immensely in keeping the drive work for longer. Trevor is a patient man!

Nice fix Trev, those dry joints can easily catch you out (after you have put the thing back together ! )
Cheers

Very interesting- shows how even plastic ‘junk’ can be serviced. Would have changed that drive belt though …
Did the display work any better after a re-solder ?.
No remote supplied, its a bad habit that annoys me .
It worked after soldering. Sometimes the display can be dimmed with the remote as a setting?

The sound of that plastic creaking makes me want to rip out what hair I have left😅
We've devolved to the point where everything snaps together, cars, electronics, furniture and the list goes on
@@TrevorsBench Indeed. I’m in the trades so I get to see heaping piles of the stuff going into new homes. Don’t get me started on the labor QC

It´s "Blu Ray".. you are welcome
Inputs? On a Blu-ray PLAYER? 🤔 Surely they're OUTPUTS?
It's part of a Blu-ray surround set up. More like a receiver/AVR type deal.
